im very wary on the skinny tower speakers cuz i have divinci towers that say 2000$ on the box and have {says} 700 watts on the speaker, but are really a piece of shit and only look spectacular. so lookout for them high prices, theres a lot of scam speakers around that just look nice. i upgraded with pro studio mach 2s and cerwin vega 215s and now blow the roof off the place! my lightbulbs even blow out too =]
@TheMasterSlut Dude! You got scammed! DiVinci does not really exist, they are actually a scam brand that cost $100 a pair to make. And you most likely bought them from some guy out of the back of a car or van...my friend had the same problem. Sorry for your loss!
Bowers & Wilkins are true top of speakers, ive heard Paradigm and they are sweet speakers even the speakers in this video ive listen to and i like them a lot but after buying a pair of B&W DM580's as a project off ebay im thrilled to bits with them, they are outstanding units. They are slightly tacky on the fronts as of age but they sound awesome.
I have a set of Paradigm Phantom .v3's very excellent sound... my Onkyo TX-SR705 pushes these and there in a 7.1 configuration with some high end yamaha and HK components... I am very pleased with them they cost me $150.00 from Craigslist.. I want to get some paradigms later on but the ones i want are very expensive. Good speakers.. great video
beautiful speakers.... a bit out of what my price and size range is. I am looking to downsize from my cheap, muddy sony floorstanding speakers to some boston classic bookshelf speakers.... Maybe someday when I buy a house i'll get paradigm. Enjoy!
If you want to save money, get a fantastic sounding pair of bookshelves, and maybe learn a thing or two, I HIGHLY recommend the Dayton Audio BR-1 kit. Only $125. They sound way better than any BA bookshelves in my opinion.
i have the monitor 11's from paradigme, rears fronts and center, and the 15" sub. from em, i forget its name, but its like 600watts rms. 58" full hd tv from samsung, denon amp with enough power to run my monsters. other like ps3, xbpx360 also. its not mine unfortunatly, its my dad, but i set it up =-D
a blew a chunk of aluminum from the tweeter dome... pretty wild... these were damaged when i got them the domes someone had pushed them in in places... and when i turned them up one night to about 50 watts/ch with a kt-88 amp i saw a chunk of aluminum had blown out of a tweeter
I've tried a large amount of tubes and I can't justify the GEC over the JJ or EH for the price.. I really can't see any sonic improvements over the reissues... they all bias up fine. I think some people just want to say they are using NIOS kt-88 which are quite rare... but I really can't say theres mucch difference in my amp with changing out power tubes. Theres a host of other mods and tube rolls that affect the tone more than the brand of tube, lol
if you really want GEC brand tubes and want to cough up some cold hard cash for them.. you can find matched pairs and quads from around $500-1500 off ebay... you can use 6550 in some amp designs and NOS 6550 are much easier to find. The design of the tube is very similar i am hard pressed to find any faults... 6550 will run closer to its max linear range than kt-88 in some designs due to lower plate voltage and cathode current.
great speakers best bang for the buck anywhere. They are so good home theatre magazine uses them to set the bar for any other speaker being made....If you have a 500$ pair of paradigm speakers you would have to go up 4 times in your price range to compete with them...
For that price range, I'd go with Boston Acoustics. See if you have a vendor in your area and demo them in the store. Bring a CD in with a diverse selection so you can hear how it sounds for all types of music. In the end it's all about what you think sounds better, and ultimately, if you feel that you are getting a run for your money.
I've got the exact same speakers accompanied with the PDR12 sub and a denon reciever. They're the best speakers i've ever owned, though i do kinda regret not waiting for the newer version
i have the monitor setup from paradigm, very happy with it, exept for radio sound.... but for movies and games, there crazy, but does it matter what kind of cd player i use, or is an xbox 360 fine
The CD player you are using is irrelevant as long as you are using a digital output to your decoder (optical or coaxial). If you are using an analog output, the quality is limited by the quality of your digital to analog converters in your CD player. Since you have an XBOX, I'd use the HDMI output.
have to changed that not very good amp yet? i do like them speakers but to be honest i do think they are over priced for what they are. The Bowers do more for less money and will handle true amplifier power like from my Pioneer A91D which is one of the best amps ive heard. Love the song though. Take care
B&W doesn't impress me one bit until you hit the 700 series and beyond. At that point though, you are shelling out nearly double what I paid. The 600 series sounds hollow with exaggerated mid-bass. When someone sings, it sounds like someone is holding a hand over the mouth.
Well these sound pretty good for the money, but the only problem I would have if I were to but these is that the woofers don't match the mids/midbass in terms of looks. But overall I would give these a 4/5
The monitor 9 v5 is being marketed as the monitor 7 v4 equivalent. I'm not a big fan of the v5 in terms of timbre but they can handle much more power and get super loud for having super tiny drivers.
WOW! That looks so much like my early endeavor into home theater! Im glad to read that you picked up some much better equipment! I would also recomend getting the PS3 as your HD movie player! It is still the absolute best Blu-ray player on the market! Oh, and stay away from LCD TV's...
The paradigms are definitely nice, but in an A/B comparison I couldn't go past the Boston VR2s when compared with the Monitor 11s. They weren't quite as 'big' sounding, but they showed a little more of the details. The paradigms had very nice bass though.
Also, checkout Krix loudspeakers. They're made here in Australia and are fantastic for the money. The Neuphonix floorstanders and Epicentrix centre channel (which I have with my Bostons) is untouchable, even for double the money.
For 200 dollars, the VR2 has a nice price to performance ratio. Though, the VR3 is more suited to be compared with these. Thanks for the tip on center channels I've been looking for cost effective solutions to go from 2.0 to 6.1 or 7.1 if I don't do it all Paradigm which was my first idea.
Oh yeah I forgot. Definitive Technology blows major ASS! Their so called "dead" cabinet material is an absolute joke and resonate like crazy give them a nice hollow cheap sound. Not to mention that they lie their asses off on their frequency response. My favorite is that BS "pressure driven" subwoofer. It's called a passive radiator and is not even close to an active subwoofer. Definitive....please.
Paradigm speakers are some of the best sounding loudspeakers and have been for a long time in all price ranges. I'd like to see some shitty Pioneer melt my Monitor 9s. I've had a 250 watt per channel mackie pro amp in the red on my Paradigms and had to turn it down simply because it was too damn loud. Try that with Definitive or B&W if you have the guts.
dont listen to anyone here saying those speakers suck or that theres are a thousand time better. As long as your happy with em thats all that matters. Unfortunatly theres no paradigm dealer where i live so i havent had the oppurtunity to hear them. Also Opeth kicks ass.

How can you compare that shit to B&Ws, or Definitive Technology BiPolars? Especially compare them to DefTechs breakthrough technology. Award winning for YEARS, nothing compares to them, especially at their price. My new bipolars would just kill your little things you call speakers... lol... I mean, those aren't bad... But, your setup sucks. Sell those, and get some nicer speakers, you'll be happy you did.
all of the 600 series including the 700 series bookshelves. 603s sound like someone talking with their hand over their mouth: exaggerated midrange and not any bass. they sound very hollow in my opinion. i've never owned them but have heard them plenty of times. 800 series is where it's at though...

cerwin vegas??? are you kiddin me?
i have heard a LOT of different models of cerwin vega, NONE i repeat NONE of them come close to the sound of a paradigm speaker.
paradigm is a true "audiophile" speaker
cerwin vega is not.
however, cerwin vegas are great speakers especially when it comes to bass.
