It would seem I'm in the great minority that thinks that PJ Harvey and her Mercury Winning Albums are overated. Subject matter rather than sheer quality won it for her. Why does the best album rarely win because of their anonymity to the wider audience (ahem King Creosote/John Hopkins). The Mercury has become a farce. It can redeem itself if it were to give next years award to Laura Marling (if here upcoming album is anything like her previous two). Elbow would be the only justified retainers...
