You can peak hp just about any motor, but having that motor take that abuse time after time is where you measure the quality of a motor. Most of the people making these claims have low mileage motor and trust me i have not seen one that has stand up 20-30k on the setup. s2k like every honda's downfall=no torque, sit above the windshield if yout 6 feet.

Now red star motoring built the hole thing and makes much more and runs mid 7s.

Pushrod mustangs rrunning 790whp on the stock block, s2k's making 700whp and so on. where our these motors going to be after 50 to 100 passes at the track......Blown. There are alot of things to consider, how you drive and the tune. If you beat on that at the track you will be picking upn the pieces.

Its much safer to run 500hp stock block s2k that you can have fun with and will last alot longer than pushing the limits and and blowing up and wasting money on a stock block. It couldn't be to handle the power reliably, could it. And they most likely, had to resleeve the block give it better forged internals cause s2k's have fiber reinforced cylinder walls, I havent seen one stock clutch or head gasket last past 400hp. Anyone can make power, but to put it to the ground reliably takes skill and experience.

I guess the AP2 slightly torquier motor compared to AP1 made the difference? I don't know, just a little surprised by it. Wasnt thinking the SS would walk it, but more like a small creep ahead.

    0:15 s2000 pulls on cobalt shift.. 0:16 - 0:18 cobalt out pulls s2000 again.. 0:20 cobalt shifts and sounds like a misfire.. 0:22 -0:25 s2000 does pull, but its very high rpm where s2000 only power is 8000 or higher rpm, 0:26 s2000 shifts, and cobalt out pulls again..then lets off gas.

    I seen the cobalt out pull most of the time, and it seems stock since power to weight is very close. good race

Now if you want to turbo the s2k. go get a larger turbo for the cobalt and a tune and be right there with a turbo'd s2k...remember honda designed honda for N/A which have a advantage over boost

  • @kittymeowbarkify Not sure how you think stock boost is 22psi? if your adding in atmospheric pressure than your thinking all SS are made and ran at the same altitude. If your going buy a aftermarket gauge then the gauge will be psia, preset from factory to sea level of 14.7 psi and will self calibrate as the altitude changes unless it's self contained liquid filled unit then you need to pop the cap so if can a just to the altitude.

  • @RcriderST185 where i live im at 5,000 elevation. i test drove a 2010 cobalt when i was looking to buy a car. it had a aftermarket gauge and in 3rd gear on the highway it spooled 22 lbs. now odds are if they had an aftermarket gauge, then they also did other mods to the car. but the one i drove seemed to have a factory issue engine bay. and thats what i seen it spool too. that car got up and moved. period. and ive been in a 2003 s2k. trust me. that balt would run from that honda all day long.

  • @STiTypeUK Oh for sure! The S2000 is definitly the better car and not just in acceleration. It's made better, it handles better, it is more of a drivers car and a bit of boost would just make it perfect. Sweet ride man!

  • @STiTypeUK yea no shit s2000 is using a state of the art vtec motor with a 9000 rpm redline and the cobalt has an ecotec motor that was reborn from the 80's. I think I would be embarassed if I were you seeing as how you can't beat a fwd car that costs 10 grand less than the s2000

  • @raptorlp03 It's alot more expensive to tune an all motor engine to gain high horsepower gains compared to a cheaper method of using boosts. Keep in mind the s2k shines on the track with turns not the straights. U can spend extra 8K on the engine only but things like X-bone body frame on the S2k cannot be simply modded onto colbat to do so well on handling.

  • @1HeatWalk Right but the Cobalt already handles better from the factory so it outshines the s2k in the turns too. The rest is just your opinion, when it comes to the performance figures the Cobalt TCSS puts the S2k away in every aspect. If having to rev like crazy to get power and a vert is that much fun to you thats great you picked a good car for it, but honestly after having an RX7 which isn't even as bad as the S2k when it comes to that, I just don't see the appeal. To each his own though.

  • @raptorlp03 I am a s2k owner my self, I don't really care if my car is not the fastest because there is always some one faster. Instead I enjoy what i have already. It's not how fast the car is, its how fun it is to drive it. The feeling of the car when it comes to handling and the responsiveness of the transmission. sure it doesn't have alot of torque, but if your turning on the off ramp going 75mph on a 50 mph speed limit zone with the top down, it is fun as hell.

  • @STiTypeUK you should give credit where it's due, not that you know anything about this car. 350$ cash can bump this car up to 320 whp and 390 wtq. this is a fact there is a dyno list showing many who have done so with just a downpipe and tune. Turbo s2k are beastly, no argument there, however upgraded turbo cobalts are as well, the lsj engine was used in 1200+ whp drag cars and there is a 900+ whp street driven cobalt now, as well as many above the 600 whp range with no issues. money = power
