When I played it for the first time, just after that FTL jump ... I knew I was about to play one of the best games in recent memory.

In year 2007, a video game company in Vancouver, British Colombia created a game that allowed players to visit a large and immersive galaxy. It received much praise, and a little controversy. It received a sequel, an iPhone game, and set up for two movies. It allowed you to create a character, create a team, travel the galaxy, and kill anything in your way.

They called it one of the best games ever made.

@RatedR5uperstar I got my first 'real' gaming PC late 2009. Went to find me some PC games and saw Mass Effect inside a PC bargain bin for 20 bucks at EB games. I thought to my self, "How come I never heard of this game? Maybe it sucks because I never heard of it. But It's made by Bioware... it has to be at least decent"

I went home and installed it.

Mind. Blown.

After beating it, I found out in less than a month later Mass Effect 2 was coming out.

@SBWaffelmann Well, it must be Earth but it's not the Normandy that you're on. The Normandy never launched from Earth, it went directly from the Arcturus Station where the alliance fleet HQ is directly to Eden Prime. So you must've taken a shuttle from Earth to get there.

All I'm saying is the window you look out of is not the Normandy.

I think it's kinda funny that they show this whole carefully-orchestrated dance of crew-members doing something, only for you to later do the same thing (going through Mass Relays) hundreds of times in only a loading screen.

@CapyGuy Is it? I'm sure that the procedure is the same every time you go through the mass relay although you don't get to see it every time. I'm sure that the crew members are really busy during the journey between the loading screens and when you regain control of your character they return to the places they usually are.

Mass effect was simply incredible. It's like the old hard sci fi, like 2001 or Blade Runner; it was made for the intellectual sci fi fan, not just the guys who want lasers, spaceships and explosions. Not to say it didn't deliver on those fronts, though...

It's not just this game, F.E.A.R. 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 all have this. I'm sure there are a lot more. You can disable this effect in most of them, at least on PC.
