had this surgery 6 weeks ago, would recommend this to anybody since my op i still have some discomfort dull aches and what not but nothing compared to the pain pre op. and its only been 6 weeks, cant wait for the walking to begin though im over bloody crutches!! not too bad an operation to have went better than i thought, good luck to anybody who is about to have this procedure!!
Getting an ilio-inguinal PAO Dec 19, next week! Have been blogging about it: middleaged-blues.blogspot.com and will update it as I recover. My surgeon here in Richmond, VA said screws are only removed in about 10% of cases he does, and only if they are causing pain or discomfort.
I am mulequeenchessy but you tube wouldnt let me sign in so had to change name!!! I was having real pain 8 yrs after surgery when laying in bed, Had a steroid into joint 2 months ago ( i know its not permanent) but i havnt needed a painkiller since and i have lost that feeling of hopelessness, its great so if you are given the option give it a go !!! ( i am now 52 and very active)

Im getting my hip done next month.Im only 22 they did tell me i may need hip replacement after 10 years. How is your recovery process? My doctor did tell me im the worst he seen.
I found out I had Bilateral Hip Dysplasia after about a year of tremendous pain. Laying in bed at night and feeling my whole bone pop out of my hip socket just by turning over in bed. I had my surgery done by Dr Trusedale at Mayo in Rochester and it was a 31/2 hr surgery. And recovery really really sucked. I am soo happy though. I have soreness every once in awhile but rarely any pain. If I watch my wieght and keep myself in shape I may not have to do my other hip until my late 50's.
@Msnsb33 So glad you are pleased with your outcome and so sensible to keep fit. i have something going on in my hip again , 8 years after surgery, bad at night .I ride my horse as much as i can but wonder how much longer i will be able to, off for x.rays in 3 months time....keep smiling!!!!
I am a RARE CASE 2. I had bilateral osteotomies with a surgeon here in MD US in2003. After my first surgery i was in pain and spent some time recovering in a nursing home, I had to walki with crutches/walker/ cane for almost 2 years.I still have a bad limp and I have impacted my spine herniated my disc twice( have undergo spine surgery too). I'm experiencing electric shocks, sharp pain in my ingroin and hip area, still waiting for MRI tomorrow :( my surgeon passed away anyone knows a doc in MDVA
im 27 yr old male i was the first here in western australia to have triple pelvic osteotomy last year in february and september. the 2nd op they damaged my femoral nerve but its slowly coming back i lost all function to my quadriceps which made my knee collapse afterwards im awaiting the removal of the pins in each side. i have 5 in each side
They found it when i was 16, i had a left hip arthroscope but now im 17 im in for the big Peri-acetabular osteotomy. My surgeon keeps refering to me as 'very rare' and still finds it hard to believe how young i am.
@becccn Let us know how you are getting on.. i think we should start a club for us rarities!!! you are young and will get over it quickly as long as you are sensible and do what you are told!! look forward to your next message
I had this op in '03 aged 45, i had some nerve damage which was a numb/ very sensative thigh( very strange feeling ) which took a couple of years to go completely, lower leg numbness down front which never went , not a problem but couldn't walk without a stick/limp for 2 years. Could still feel improvement for 5 years on till i could completly forget about it last August, pain just started wooshing from outer hip down outside of leg to knee.
I had this operation June 2005 (left) & Aug 2007 (right). I have never had my screws removed and was told if they do not cause me any problems it's best to just leave them in. I've not experienced pain anywhere near as bad as I was suffering with before the op's however just in the last 4-6 weeks I have started experiencing occassional dull aching pains in my left hip. I hoping this will just sort itself out though.
I would definately recommend this op to anyone who needs it!
I had this operation 3 weeks ago done by Dr. Bolhofner, with Dr. Mast attending. I am getting around on crutches and have only minor pain, but I am not yet able to control all of the muscle movement in my leg and have some numbness in my upper thigh. I am told it takes 3-4 months for recovery. My screws are permanent. Why did some of you have them removed?
@Bmouthbubblegum I just had this done about 6 weeks ago, I'm due to have the bolts out around easter. I haven't been in much pain after 3 weeks and I'm still on my crutches. Hope you're feeling better now!
JFC why did I watch this? Hammers and chisels? urghhhh, I'm dreading this surgery.

I am 21, I had the surgery done in June and I was wondering how long it took you to recover. Also I have it in both of my hips, do you??

I think its safe to say im an idiot!... I had this procedure last year & am currently recovering from having the metalwork out!!!
damn curiosity!!! The hammer part has made me really queasy!
Anyway if anyone else has had a peri-acetabular osteotomy, I am quite interested to know how your feeling now?
Obviously I am recovering from the 2nd stage of having the metalwork out but wondered if there is a light at the end of the pain tunnel?
