My guess is you practice tae kwon do am I right? I don`t want to criticise or anything, I found that when I practised tae kwon do I got more flexible, I can do almost split etc. but in kung fu, we have alot of low stances where you then very fast snap your leg to make a kick or get in to very low flexible walking steps, and my guess is that it causes to shorten the muscle again so improvement is less fast....some help on this issue?
I find that when I had better flexibility my legs looks so much better..Diabetes sucks..im in pretty good shape though but my damn hamstrings are tight as hell...
hi paul. Ive been trying to stretch my hamstrings out for a long time and the progress im making is very poor... does it take a long time usually? any advice?
Hi have you ever heard of this product by Yoga Props called the forwardbender. Basicly you you place your feet on the biggest part of the prop, and then you have 5 rungs that the bar goes on, I have been able to reach the 3rd rung, but have been unsuccessful in reaching the 4th rung and was wondering if you knew what I could do about increasing my hamstring flexibility. Thank you.
I completely agree that you must strengthen the muscles when the ROM is increased. Too many martial arts instructors concentrate souly on increasing the stretch and not the conditioning of the muscle & surrounding soft tissues (tendons etc) & this leads to chronic injuries.
I suffer from chronic medial hamstrings (semimembronous) damage & it's got to the point where regardless of how much time I take out to strengthen them it makes no difference...strengthen while strengthening!!
HI Paul, I was just wondering if it were possible and beneficial to rig up the staff and resistance band in such a way as to work the adductors and inner leg area. Keep up with the great videos!
Extended Length Conditioning is useful for your adductors-Yes. Take a look at my ELC for adductors video. You may find it easier to do then to use the staff.
Paul is it true that to gain flexibility of the hamstring you have to strengthen it as well?...is that what your trying to get at with this exercise? I worry about strengthening the hamstrings and loosing flexability.
ELC is not just strengthening, but strengthening in specific range. You can get flexibility and never strengthen. But strengthening in extended range of motion has many benefits in terms of safety, retention, etc.
Does Paul smile at all?
