If it's a one time deal - hire a designer to type set your book and do the layout. You won't save money by buying a program and spending hours trying to master it - it's not worth the headache. If you really want to learn, and might be doing more than one book, yes invest in a good program and learn - but not Publisher or Word. InDesign is great and worth the cost if you really want to learn - never liked Quark - it use to be the best back in the day, but i think Adobe has left them in the dust.
For printing the book, I would suggest the ClickBook software. It will print books of any size. From cute doll books to full-sized books on any printer. Even prints in signatures.
If anyone is interested please check out some of the articles I've written for beginning writers so far. If you find any to be helpful please leave comments or suggestions. I'll be constantly updating/checking the site. Also if you'd like to contribute please feel free to message me. Thanks!
i can't believe he's recommending ms word for this. don't listen. ms publisher is okay, adobe in design is very good, but best is quarkxpress and since the competition of in design you can get it a decent price, although don't get version eight, seven is just fine and you'll save a lot. by the way, quarkxpress is pretty easy to get a handle on
my book is fiction and not aimed at children, so word works for me as i dont have any pics. anyone writing a childrens story or an educational guide book that needs pictures or diagrams might want to give word a miss. its a nightmare at times.
MS Word is good if the book is all text. But if you want to put any kind of graphics in your book, I HIGHLY recommend MS Publisher!!! Trying to put any graphics in MS Word is a pain in the ass!!!
I typeset a book in Word - total nightmare if you insert a lot of photos. Never, never again! Now I use Indesign. The doc should get an earlier version of Pageplus or anything rather than use Word.
Publisher is so much easier to use--I use it for almost everything. You just click and move things where you want them. I can then save it as a PDF file with a free program call PrimoPDF LOTS easier than struggling with Word. I teach both Publisher and Word classes, btw--I really enjoy my Publisher classes--word classes are a usually a pain.
has ponzi got a channel on youtube? Or is she interested in her own live channel ? would be cool getting her opinion aswell.. Yet all your videos provide me with what I need to know I dont use many other places to gather info from about from your knowledge lol.. Keep it up chris

hey man im looking for a nice small laptop... to ply my music to my dj set got any suggestions ??

@malaka567
Yeah, have you considered the 2.66GHz 13" MacBook Pro?
For sofftware Djay is fun and can be used for live sets and just getting ideas.
Serrato and Torq are probably the most professional DJ software/hardware solutions.
If you want to micromanage your mixes you can use Ableton Live because it's a full-fledged DAW.

LaTeX it is. Pass through the frustration.
I have worked with professional documents of 250 pages with pictures in Word and I simply hated it.

Chris, you should do a video on Open Office. I know it won't compete with Office, but being free of charge, could give you an alternative.
