  • hi all, im a guitar teacher and have to say this guy is probably the best source out there for online learning - everytime i thought of something important he goes on to cover it - FIRST CLASS !

  • Finally, after over a decade of playing & not knowing what to practice these little video clip lessons have opened up the doors that were previosuly locked for me. I could play parrot fashion some classic solos but now I improvise a little & know what I'm doing & where I am, something that I've longed to do ever since I picked up a guitar. 10E a month is nothing to pay for the wealth of information found on Justin's site. A fine & humble man you are Sir! Thank you is not nearly enough, Gazza

  • Justin Sandercoe.

what a guy. not only did he take the time out of his life to make these videos, he uploads them for free and asks nothing in return.

  • What a hero! Thanks Justin !

  • Justin I would like to thank you for your guitar lessons online.

I read a lot of books and practice guides on guitar and these lessons are helpin me develop my own style

  • Justin, you are the most amazing teacher ever, I saw all you blues series and im going for more!.

    Greetings from Venezuela!

  • Thank you very much for this amazing series of blues licks. I've been looking for someone to instruct me on these licks, and WHOA, here's Justin on YouTube. I'm headed for your JustinGuitar site to purchase some DVD's. My way of paying back to an awesome teacher.

  • great lessons! each one . you really know what youre talking about, and it sure inspires me to each day pick up the guitar and start from one of your lessons.

  • Hi Justin ,

thank you for this great Job !!!

With the best regards from Dresden / Germany

    Didik

  • Well, i think the 2ed best is YOUR OWN blues rythem pattern on a loop. Thats 2ed best to me. And third is a BACKING TRACK. You learn Melody, leed, rythem ALL AT ONCE! Keeps you from beeing bord with one thing. I am improving a lot more with a loop.

  • the most amazing series!! got me improvising!! legendary material!! cheers justin! look forward to the advanced blues stuff!!

  • yeah... this got my soloing like crazy... i've improved so much with these simple lessons...

  • gosh no wonder justin i dint put up licks lmao.... stuck em up pretty slear :D

  • This was great! I give out your website to anyone that even thinks they may want to play guitar. The Blues lessons have been awesome - next is your DVDs!

  • the time, effort and work you put into these videos is awesome !! keep going man...

  • thanks a lot man

  • thanks for the tips man! always refreshing!

and i love the "eric clapton didn't learn licks from a DVD" bit. hahaha

  • C# would also fit well over E7 chord (as a 13th)

  • And is that a an ADA mp-1 at the top? uuuugh

  • is that a rackmount rectifier?

How much gear do you have? Holy crap.

  • hah dude you look wayy different when youre not rockin the hat haha

  • good guy. why pay £25 per hour for lessons when you can pick up tips on here for free? practice is the key

  • very much enjoyed it, Justin.. thanks! learned a lot!

  • Justin, everything is really tying together brilliantly here... I owe you so much gratitude!

One problem, you mention tying the scale of A with C - Is that really what you meant? I though a solo in A has to stay in A no matter where you are on the fretboard, in order to sound proper.

  • yes, that is usually correct, however: if the key is A minor, meaning that you are playing the A minor pentatonic scale, it means you can also play the C major pentatonic scale, because A minor is the relative minor of C (meaning that they are very similar in note structure) so i think what he means here is merging the A minor pent. scale with the C major pent. scale. hope that makes a little bit more sense =)

  • You missed the point. He's talking about playing in different keys. If you can play in A, you just move up three frets and do the same thing to play in C.

  • @CaptainCoconut87 He's talking about soloing in the key of C and using the licks you learned in the key of A. Transposing them, but not switching between them.

  • @CaptainCoconut87 When ur playing at Am scale, u can also play the C maj scale and vice versa, its all the same.

  • you very well play on a guitar I so also want me one melody very pleased here its performer Chet Atkins - Yakety Axe May a dream will learn to play it melody for me keeps indoors you can to rotin this lesson if you rotin I will very thank

  • Is that and ada mp-1 in the top of your rack???? Would like to hear your views on that

  • Please tab your funk chords on your website

  • Learn it yourself by ear. It's harder but it'll make you such a better guitarist.

  • the same pattern of notes and you are now in C. that would be the 8th position. hope that helps.

  • KowaruKei i think he is confusing you because he is saying position when i think he means pattern. you have to determine what your root is there are five patterns for each scale because there are 5 roots, one on each string. position is more referring to where you are placing your hand for ex position 4 is putting your first finger on the fourth fret. so if the root for pattern not position one is on the 6th string on the 5th fret that is A in pattern 1 then move up to the 8th fret and play

  • sorry.. Big difference.

  • No. an athiest doesnt believe in God. From what I see from his fav's, they (favs) hate God. Gig difference.

  • He is an athiest

  • johann könig spielt gitarre!!

you rock. thanks for the great lessons!

  • im very confused about theory of music. let me get this straight, if im playing "position one" which is from the fifth fret, and i move "position one" to the eight fret, im playing it right in the key of C from A? Then if i play "Position 2" which apparently starts at the 8th fret as taught in the series, key of C and bring the shape to the 5th fret, am i playing "Position 2" in the key of A? Sorry if i sound confused, because I am. I'm a noob.

  • why not start at the BEGINNING of the series and maybe it will make sense!!! don't try and start at lesson 20 - of course you won't get it dude! J

  • haha mr.sandercoe let me tell you this. I've been playing metal all my life but all i did was reading tabs. i can manage clean shredding speed; but all i really want now is blues :) I followed your blues lessons from the very beginning and it helped me ALOT. im just a litle bit confused about which sound is which alphabet, all that basic theories...I took organ lessons when i was young, but couldnt remember anything :/

  • you don't need to know all that basic thoeries.... you just need to know what are the names of the notes you are playing in the fretboard, to play in a certain key for example key of C you should know all the C notes in the fretboard and then worrie about positions

  • "Thanks for the Free lessons and advice Justin. Your very Inspirational and your lessons are much appreciated."

  • justin- top man/awesome teacher/awesome guitar player

    thanks man

  • I've always loved Blues guitar. I searched the whole net searching for the kind of lessons I needed, I finally found them with you.

Learning the scales and learning the licks ensure I have a whole library of possibilities when I go to solo or improvise.

    Thanks a lot J!

  • The best teacher on Youtube !

  • Hi Justing, i saw you last night on TV, Film and Arts channel on a concert, very very nice. I'm writing from Venezuela

  • what show was that? - a concert with Katie Melua? J

  • You should post something like that, i'd love to see you play a gig. Great lessons!

  • Yes, wonderfull concert, you played the electric and the acoustic, really good

  • hey no soy el unico por aki de vnezuela =P ... sabes si lo vuelven a pasar??

  • Epale amigo, la verdad no se, pero si me entero de algo te aviso

  • Justin, you are surely the best teacher on YT!! You really get to the heart of what it is we learners need to do. Your spoken input is just the right amount to help the practical lessons. And for other YTubers, I highly recommend buying a few of Justin's DVD lessons. Best bargain I ever had. The price is give-away and there's gems in them there hills...

  • thanks for sharing with us.

  • I like your t-shirt.

  • he needs lessons on how to write guitar compositions like jeffreal and mattrach

  • why does he hold that guitar for ten minutes? He didn't used it.

    Nice lesson altough

  • Lol, I was thinking the same.

  • cos I feel naked without it!

  • Haha, well i'm just on the edge of my seat waiting for Justin to use the guitar :D

  • hey, man! you're great, thanks. nice to meat you!

    hehehe :)

  • The key of a song is (almost) always the first one (usually ends on the same chord too), except if you are listening to some really progressive stuff, or fusion jazz, or just normal jazz...

Rock songs however have a more or less steady structure and therfore its easy to spot the key...

great lesson Justin, as always :)

    peace...

  • ok, that clears some stuff up. thanks

  • nice to meat you :d

You sound like a meat lover.

    (it is meet)

  • thanks again Justin

  • Nice look there Justin - kinda sleepy or otherwise somehow creamy. ;)

This lesson is probably the most important of all in the blues series, as it explains how to use everything you've taught in a melodic way. Gotta sign under all the things you've mentioned without other comments.

Marvelous job you're doing there, Justin. I just love your lessons and the way you put complicated things in a simple way.

    Take care and happy holidays!

    iNde~

  • ive been trying to transcribe some of satriani's songs.. the solos i try to figure out but ill most likely end up mixing a little of what i hear and and little impov playing lol (his stuff it super complex)... you really help me alot justin. thanks

  • Justin, you're the man.

  • thanks man!

  • how can you tell what key a song is in so that you know what key to solo in?

  • usually i find it outby what chord is most prominent in the song. eg: acdc-rock n roll train. its 'main' chord is A so you would do minor pentatonic solo in the key of A.

    Hope that helps :)

  • just to push the question further, what if there are a bunch of chords evenly distributed?

  • well I'm not a very good guitarist, only 14 but i would say listen carefully to the chorus, you might get the feel of what the key is. Thats just how I look at it, I might well be wrong but I'm really into classic rock. Yeh theres not much else that can say. Good luck man

  • oh alright, well thanks

  • All your lessons are so great... They've helped me alot to not only learn the licks and songs that you've taught, but learn to write my own and transcribe from albums and such. Thanks so much!

  • fully sick he's Aussie

  • so basically, pentatonics are just there to be complimentary with the main music

  • I REALLY enjoyed this lesson. Good work Justin!

  • I applaud you, Justin. Your generosity is just too hard to describe. If everybody were this selfless, I'm pretty much sure we'd be livin' in a whole lot better place. Thank you for all your efforts and your lessons! Happy holidays!
