  • Those files look an awful lot like DVDS! Whether you love or hate Star Trek, you have to admit that they were very prophetic.(A good book to read is Dr Michio Kakus book "Physics of the impossible" which discusses all of the Star trek "concepts" that have since become reality/and how they will become reality)

  • 09:40 I didn't know that gates mcfadden got really skanky and went back in time to act on TOS o_O

  • zarabeth: "have something to eat, please"

    spock: "if it pleases you"

    reeowr

  • @hisoj like...huh?

  • awesome episode! first time seeing it. this would have been a fitting final episode to the series.

  • Damn

  • Why is Atoz so dense? Kirk "we are from another planet, we don't belong in your past..."

Atoz: "duh, let me prepare you, you stubborn man" lol

  • "I'm fermly convinced that I do exist." I'll have to use that one someday.

  • McCoy is such a ladies man! :D

  • Thank you Breyers for the brief "commercial" message. I WILL try your ice cream sandwiches mainly because of your reputation and ad brevity. I'm sure both will be refreshing to all of these viewers.

  • love that skimpy outfit

  • Marriette Hartley in that outfit .... shwing! How can you possibly fight the urge to rub one out while looking at that?

  • 38:29 Zarabeth: "Zorcon only left me what was necessary to survive." "Yes, he gave me weapons, a shelter, food, shampoo and conditioner, nail polish, chocolate, and many cases of fine wine." Everything I needed to live, except a credit card." "But to send me here without a credit card." "If that is not death what is?"

  • Hey...wait a minute. Wouldn't Spock be affected by the cold way B4 Mccoy? I mean he is a vulcan.....and therefore from a dessert planet. (That vulcans have adapted to) Ehh! im soo cofused!!

  • @seveeona

desserts have both extreme heat and extreme cold, it just lacks the moisture to produce snow or rain

  • @SDZer0 Yea i kno that. But like ya kno wut i mean. Vulcan is Like HOTT and so yea. But thank u 4 the reminder.

  • Dr. Crusher, I presume?

  • :( only one episode left...I hope its good...

  • the one time spock gets some love he has to leave asap. and she dies. depressing much?? :'(

  • it was so illogical of spock to not continue without bones

  • Hot cavewoman is hot.

  • I ♥ Captain Kirk.

  • 40:13. "My lips to your lips..."

  • he means its cold hahaha

  • What about the clones locked in that room?

  • Vegetarian Spock! xD

  • OMG the anti depressiant commmercial is so long.

  • @mechtech104 Get Firefox Ad Blocker and you won't have to deal with it.

  • Why did the last several Season 3 episodes end with the closing music from Season 2?

  • Use firefox with the adBlock plus add-on. Works Perfect! No commercials now.

  • Zarabeth is wearing some awful chilly clothes for that climate...

  • vulcans gone wild lol

  • "How much time until the sun blows up?" YAY!

  • Damn! Can I be Zarabeth? She gets some hot Spock lovin'.

  • Is the jailer's name "Delholm Elliot" The man that was on Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the butler on 'Trading Places?

  • I really think this is my fave old Trek episode. It isn't one people think of a lot, but I really like everything about it. I love the very last shot of ship flying out as the sun goes nova. Really beautiful. And the girl was beautiful.

I read a Star Trek novel once, when I was a teen, that was a sequel to this episode. I think it was called "Yesterday Son" or something. It seems that Spock got that girl pregged. He had to go back and find his son. That's all I remember.

    Great episode.

  • @AdamEtheredge

Yes...you are correct on all the points you made...this was one of my fave episodes too...and Yesterday's Son was the title of the novel that was a sequel to this story...there was also another novel that was a sequel to that novel...i believe it was called Return To Yesterday...also a good story

  • Oh dear. Spock has fallen in love again.

    LOL

  • Heh, Heh, I know what world that old guy jumped to!

  • Mr. Atos the librarian looks like. Marshall Applewhite

  • One more thing, In vids like this with the ads. You can't post a time and jump to it. The ads play and EF it all up. example 23:49

  • I will point out some other flaws though. Spock say "suffering from the severity of your weather" Not true. McCoy is suffering from the severity of the climate. Its the ice age. Also the cave they go into before you realize the chick is a chick. Well it's way warm enough to have melted off that fake ass frost on spocks head and ears to the point it would be wet not WHITE. Another Star Trek failure when it comes to snow. Yes the ads are TOO LOUD. It should be just like TV. No changing the level.

  • @javaxsqft this is si-fi and from 40 years ago to boot.enjoy the story and quit nit-picking.

  • Hate to break it to them, but Spock and McCoy would have experienced major frostbite (48:00) and digit loss.

  • @bjcomstone nothing at 48:00 indicates to me that kind of conclusion? Why specifically do you say that?

  • Hate to break it to them, but Spock and McCoy (48:00) would have experienced severe frostbite and digit loss.

  • So why did they not die immediately? And why couldn't they bring Spock's girlfriend if they didn't?

  • @ FuryTisiphone

Just a theory, but based on some passages - The library disks allow you to scan historical eras of the planet (window shopping). You can go back to a selected time for a "free sample". But, you can stay only a short time or your cells break down. This may be a deliberate defense mechanism to prevent an individual from changing a timeline.

If you decide to stay in the past, you have to process through the atavchron. The atavachron prevents one from

  • manipulating the past, then return to the present to benefit from your actions. Also, your cells are modified to prevent breakdown.

Neither Bones, Kirk or Spock were processed, so they could return before cell damage set in. Sarabeth was banished, and the atavchron process prevented her from returning or she would have died, most likely immediately stepping through the portal.

    Thoughts anyone???

  • good episode

  • Why do the ads have to be ear drum busting loud for?

  • because they hate us

  • This is SUPER nerdy, but 34:03 reminds me of Diagon Alley. haha

  • 2:33 to 2:35 kirk looks over then spock and finaly McCoy, just reminded me of when the three stooges pop out from behind a door! XD MADE ME LAUGH!!! HA Kirk Spock and McCoy are the three stooges!!!!

  • That is a big coat!

Y is she not cold when she removes that coat.

    That is some small clothing!

  • hahahahahaha I love this! Spock is bedding a hot babelien while Kirk gets the harsh treatment! Spock deserves it after all those times he had to walk in on Kirk making out with chicks

  • They say that Kirk is the ladies's man, but Spock is a PIMP! XD

  • Comment removed

  • agreed

  • spock hooks up!!

    40:00

  • you don't really want to heart me do you?

    this is Bomb!! LOL

    36:00

  • Dude!! 17:42 LOL

Kirk is like "screw it i am gonna crash for a while till these losers figure out whats up!! :)

  • Sorry, ur confusing Star Trek TNG with the original series. They are NOT in a holodeck...

  • ;_;

    Spooooock.......

That experience of barbarism must have been excruciating.

No matter how long it was ago, it will likely be fresh in his mind for decades.

What a way to avoid a nova.

  • disgracefully?

No Spock you are acting very sexy

  • one of the saddest episodes ever

  • "Witch... Witch!!" I thought male witches were called Warlocks! ;)

  • Actually, the use of the words to denote gender is fairly recent. Males were accused of witchcraft fairly often. Cool, huh?

  • Really? I did not know that! Who says Star Trek can't be educational!

  • Spocks girl is proabally the hottest TOS girl

  • @Totalwar476 Seriously. This is the hottest chick to ever appear in a star trek episode.

  • @3link1 Sorry my friend, that honor goes to Andrea from "What Are Little Girls Made Of"

  • @Totalwar476 I remember watching this show as a kid and feeling sorry for Spock. The poor guy never gets to experience love.

  • A TNG fan once asked me why I prefer TOS over all the other series, particularly when the latter had superior production values. My answer was that the original cast members had something more important: a vibrant chemistry that's nowhere to be found in any of the later series. Plus, TOS was big on romance, and let's face it: as good as Stewart, Brooks, Mulgrew, and Bakula were (or weren't, depending on your opinion), their characters were about as romantic as tribble droppings.

  • well said!

  • The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese, but it's still one of my favorite episodes.

  • Obviously the big issue with this episode is the whole concept of time travel. Other TOS episodes which included traveling back in time include "Naked Time" where the ship goes back 3 days. There is "Assignment Earth" where Gary Seven does the time traveling back to Earth. "Tomorrow is Yesterday', and "City on the Edge of Forever" make an attempt to point out that when you travel back in time you better not do anything that might alter the future; otherwise ...

  • Two things : 1) How does Bones manage to determine ( 42:40 ) that only Zarabeth can't go back, but that he and Spock may be able to go back? In Kirk's case, the Prosecutor explained to him that only those prepared by the Atavachron could not go back. But no one told this to McCoy. 2) Can we assume that Atoz has "prepared" Kirk before he tries to wheel him into the portal at 40:56 ? If so, can Kirk survive in his current time period with his physiology having been altered?

  • At the end, Spock said the lady was long gone, dead and buried. Who would have buried her?

  • Zarabeth mentions that she is "alone", but even 5000 years ago, there must have been a population on the planet; otherwise, how would there be life 5000 years later? Also, according to some novels that were written after this episode, Zarabeth had a baby (thanks to the deadbeat dad Spock). Maybe the child buried his mother. Of course, Spock would have no way of knowing that either.

  • What was the name os Socks Son in Yesterdays Son again?

  • Zar

  • Wait a minute, how does Mr Atoz know at 47:47 that McCoy was attempting to enter the portal by himself? He comments that the reason McCoy can't get through by himself. But there is no dialogue between Spock and McCoy that would indicate McCoy was attempting to get thru the portal by himself. 40 years after the episode aired, and I'm still wondering about this.

  • Spock said "Start on without me." Or something along those lines, cause he didn't wanna leave chicky.

I always thought it was funny she said that she's longed to hear him tell her she's beautiful. Meanwhile she's only known him for one episode.

  • @Xcepting: You are correct. At 46:59 , Spock tells McCoy "Please start ahead, doctor" and during this time Atoz is able to hear him. Thanks for solving that little mystery.

  • No problem.

  • Is this the only episode where the only cast members appearing in the episode are Kirk, Spock and McCoy ? We do hear Scottie's voice at 47:20 , but even Scotty doesn't make an appearance.

  • Wow, from Ice Age to normal temperatures in only 5000 years. Even Al Gore would be impressed with that type of global warming.

  • fuck the commericals

  • How does McCoy know that he was looking at the planet's Ice Age ( 11:58 ) as opposed to just looking at a cold location on the planet's surface? If we had a similar library on earth today, would you be able to distinguish between the Ice Age and Antartica ? By the way, if I had to pick a period of time I would go back to the 1970's and invest heavily in Intel and Microsoft stock.

  • Its Mariette Hartley when she was 29 years old.

  • "I meet the love of my life, but she can't come home with me because she'll explode like Jiffy Pop and a fork in the microwave. But hey, great to be back, GUYS."

  • its the Polaroid chick from the late 70's.

nice tail, good genetics to share bodily fluids.

  • Man, Spock never gets to have a piece of human tail.

  • maybe she'll have a little baby spock to keep her company... :^)

  • she did, it was written as a star trek novel i read many years ago. spock found a drawing or something in a history file that was vulcan and he went back and found him but i really cant remember how it ended - like i said many years have passed since i read it

  • Finally Spoke got some a@$ and the show gets canceled! Life's not fair!

  • Lol

    Spoke

  • Kirk: "Spock are you in the library?"

Spock: "Indeed not. We're in a wilderness of arctic charicteristics"

    McCoy: "HE MEANS IT'S COLD!"

Ah, Bones, your subtlety will never die! XD

  • Ya gotta be able to go through that time portal to anywhere you want to, and come back to do it all over again man! That would be cool! Gotta love those animal skin outfits! One of my favorites!

  • Brilliant acting by Leonard Nimoy...

But i'd rather see spock with someone a bit more modest...

Awesome ep. though, one of my favorites...

  • Where's Yeoman Rand! Best hot couple on TOS: Rand and Kirk.

  • He's got a hot smile all right but he's all mine!

  • my god Leonard Nimoy is beautiful when he smiles

  • Mr. Atoz had a cool little weapon.

  • Some "Trek" recycling at play here: I believe the actor playing the librarian was also the former senator / freed slave in "Bread and Circuses" and the machine that the librarian uses was also the computer in "Assignment Earth"

  • interesting... i'll check that out...

  • Ha, you are so right! XD

  • Mariette Hartley had incredible thighs. I don't think I've ever seen better.

  • Poor Spock! This was a really good episode. :]

  • spock: we are in a wilderness of arctic characteristics.

    bones: he means it's cold!

    ahahaha! love it.

  • I must be crazy but I am a woman and I think Zarabeth is hot and I mean really HOT!

  • epeleptic seasures

  • i like the part at the end when spock is trying to say goodbye to zarabeth and pushes bones into the wall.. hahaha

  • No. Spock was going to stay. He pushed Bones into the wall so he could get away.

    But I still LOL'ed

  • Mariette Hartley was probably the most beautiful girl on TOS. Awesome episode. One of the best of the series.

  • no way StarTronAlpha !.............the hottest woman on TOS has got to goto the woman that was the psychology doctor that went with kirk down on the Tantalus colony! She was so soaring hot that i just cannot get enough of watching her crawling thru the ventilation system, and her chest was threating the fcc regulations of the day ! hahahahaaaaa !

  • Yes, sbmrunning, Marianna Hill, playing Dr. Noel, on Season 1, Dagger of the Mind episode, is actually more my type and super beautiful. It's difficult to say who is more attractive.

  • well, i am partial to dark haired women anyways! lol..........thanks for the name find! now i'll seek it on the net for more of her works! and of course...........PHOTOOOOOSSSSSSS ! LOL !

  • Start listening at 16:49 the crying sounds repeat themselves twice for some reason. o_O

  • 17:50 I'm pretty sure I've seen that background somewhere before.

  • Is McCoy wearing a pinky ring?? 43:45

  • Yup, I've noticed him wearing in a several other episodes, also. Sometimes when stars are married in real life, and they can't wear their wedding rings on set, they are allowed to wear it on their opposite hand or as a pink ring. I always wondered if that's why McCoy wore his.

  • Spock tells Zarabeth that his planet is "millions" of light years away which is clearly a lemon of a line since in the episode "By Any Other Name", Spock was impressed that the Kelvins could modify the ship's engines to make it possible to reach the Andromeda Galaxy (which is about 2.5 million light years from earth) in "only" 300 years.

  • 45:15 Spock with his head down like that, looking so sad, it stopped my heart for a second.

  • I know, right? I'll definitely be getting a screencap of that later...

  • I don't care whether Spock's mind was changed, really.

All I know is that mad spock=sexiER spock.

  • Spock technically wouldn't have gone back to his savage roots. His cell structure was not changed by the machine-thingy, so the time would make no difference to him, right?

  • You can totally tell its a voiceover starting at 13:10 (ice)

  • Anybody else look at those discs and think DVD'S?

  • 16:53 - How Cartesian.

  • A great episode.. But I fail to see how going back in time would alter Spock's mental disciplines.. Simply because the Surakian reform has yet to occur does not mean that Spock should revert to the way of his ancestors unless the place was acclimating all of them to it. That said, McCoy should have reverted as well.

  • I think the episode is suggesting that since human are still relatively close to savagery McCoy wouldn't necessarily change as much are at all. Vulcan's have come farther from their savage ways and thus have further to revert.

  • @hanoc101 - Except for the whole "Leave me and let me die so you'll have a fighting chance" thing. Yep, that's savage all right.

  • 42:00: Man, Bones is tempting fate AGAIN!. He's lucky that Spock didn't choke him to death.

    SPOILER

Then, Zarabeth walks away & dies of a broken heart .

  • 32:18: Guess Bones forgot his old grand daddy's warning - you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

Holy crap - I thought that Spock was going to bounce Bones' head off the ceiling, then use him to mop up the floor afterwards

  • Mariette Hartley looks so good in this episode.

  • i love this episode! xD Poor Spock! he finds the love of his life and he can't stay with her! :( you know i bet she got pregnant with spocks baby whos only a 4th vulcan and then their descendants are the planets inhabitents in the future!! :o

  • there's a book written about that very thing it's called Yesterdays Child.

  • Actually, the book is called "Yesterday's Son", not "Yesterday's Child". It reveals that Spock indeed had a son with Zarabeth.

  • That's true

  • What is this book and where can i buy it?

  • According to the laws of biology (which I assume still hold up in the 23rd century), a hybrid species is always sterile and therefore can't produce offspring. Just sayin.

  • I've always thought that the answer to every scientific blooper in Star Trek is "It's Star Trek."

It makes the show easier to watch when the Class M planet they're orbiting doesn't have any oceans. :)

  • Well, there are other reasons why that planet could not be repopulated without major issues, but it involves seriously disturbing incest and I'm just not going to get into that.

And actually, one of the things I like about Star Trek is that unlike most other sci-fi, it bases its science on actual fact while simultaneously taking a few of its own liberties. Okay, yeah I'm a nerd.

  • @guinivereXbloodgood a hybrid species is not always sterile, only some are. Look at wolves and dogs for example.

  • That's so cute how Spock cares enough to stay by McCoy's side! lol McCoy & Spock are my favorites. Especially McCoy.

  • <3 BONES!

  • I could get used to staying stuck with Zarabeth.

  • get some spock.

  • <3 this episode!

Hehe spock is in love! Lol. =P

  • he he i love this one. spock in love, mccoy just plain awesome (as always) kirk in jail everyone else is not appering here kirk in jail everyone in risk of dying kirk in jail kirk beats up an old guy mccoy ...LOGICAL. spock illogical ...kirk in jail my 2 favorite characters are the main characters, (mccoy and spock) spock and mccoy confilct AGH! TOO MUCH AWESOME!
  • you seem to like the thought of kirk being in jail lol :) random note: i love ur name! "turd ferguson, it's a funny name!" lol

  • Comment removed

  • HE MEANS IT'S COLD!

    We love you McCoy!

  • 40:52 was just hilarious. "Just stay where you are, sir! I'll see you get to safety!" *chucks the cart* lol.

  • When Spock picked her up I almost died of cuteness~

    OMG his smile~~ <33

  • OMG why are you watching a 50 minute episode of it if you hate it so much???

  • The librarian's names is Atoz. According to the Wikipedia, that's a play on "A to Z" i.e. a library,

    Interesting.

  • Actually, I have to correct myself. Kirk went back a few hundred years on Sarpeden and they were already speakin English. That means right now, as we watch this episode, people on Sarpeden are speaking English and duelin with swords. Cool!!

  • I think it's wonderful how in a few hundred years from now everybody in the galaxy speaks English.
