Michigan fans are arrogant and obnoxious . Swear a lot to make a stupid point. Nobody in Nebraska brags about that stupid bowl game when Nebraska beat Michigan with a Callahan for coach, as comical as it was.My point is Michigan fans shut up and learn how to be modest.
Nebraska simply dominated college football in the decade of the 90's. The '95 team will go down as one of the all time greatest teams in college football history. The Defense rests, Your Honor.
Just being true here Michigan would've had has there asses kicked any other way no matter what Nebraska was a bad ass team because of Tom Osborne but pelini will make it happen again
Michigans defense would have held Nebraska to less than 42, but Michigan wouldn't have been able to put up much, if any, on nebraska. That ball control, power run game would have gotten to em in the second, just like tenn. To be honest, I challenge the validity of any poll released before the last game of the season! That's ridiculous!
Michigan and Nebraska deserved to play each other that year, since both were undefeated. It would've been a good game for sure, but Michigan would've won. As good as Nebraskas ground game was, they wouldn't ran over Michigan and that would've been the deciding factor.
@ericberryisgod Michigan would have steamrolled Nebraska in 97. Charles Woodson was by far the most talented player that year. He could do it all. Tell me how the number 1 team in the nation didnt win the national championship. Michigan played a MUCH harder schedule than Nebraska that year. Oh and by the way, Nebraska had a 5th down on the final drive against Missouri. That miracle catch never should have happened.
@JonnyPeace07 While Michigan did perhaps have their greatest team in their history in 1997, some of the things you stated just aren't correct. #1 Nebraska did not need a 5th down (that was Colorado vs Mizzou in 1990). #2 You stated Michigan had the more difficult schedule. While Michigan's schedule strength was ranked #32 that year Nebraska's wasn't far behind at #41. Michigan played 7 ranked teams during the season beat them by an average of 13.0 pts but only 3 finished ranked.
@JonnyPeace07 part 2, Nebraska played 4 ranked teams during the season beat them by an average of 26.8 points per game, and 5 teams Nebraska played finished ranked in the AP top 25. Michigan on defense was ranked #1 in the Nation, Nebraska's defense was comparable at #6.. However on offense Michigan only averaged 388.9 yards a game on offense (207.0 passing, 181 rushing) Nebraska was ranked #1 offensively Nebraska averaged 392 a game RUSHING! More than Michigan did running and passing..
@JonnyPeace07 part 3 Nebraska averaged 514 yards a game total offense gave up just 73 yards a game on the ground and 184 passing.. The way I see it Michigan would have slowed Nebraska down no doubt, however that task would have been much more daunting for the Wolverines than for Nebraska slowing the sub par Michigan offense down. Prediction at the Half Nebraska leads 14 to 7, but pulls away in the second half winning 38 to 17.
@JonnyPeace07 No one disputes Charles Woodson's talent. But if you think Michigan would have steam rolled NU, you are out of your mind. Michigan barely beat a Washington State team whose best player was RYAN LEAF! NU slobberknocked a team with Peyton Manning, Leonard Little, Jamal Lewis, and Peerless Price. What makes you think UM would have done any better?
@JonnyPeace07 Nebraska had a 5th down against Missouri in 1997? Wrong team and way off on the year. Wow.
Fans of either team pretending they would be certain to take down the other undefeated team are just kidding themselves. The way the bowl games went though, NU looked to have the edge.
the national title team didn't have peyton manning or leonard little. Nebraska had some great teams in the 90s and they would have crushed Michigan and Desmond How.... I mean Charles Woodson... I get them confused. (who would have never won the Heisman if he played for a team other than Michigan, Notre Dame, or Ohio State) And the 95 Huskers are the greatest college football team of all time hands down.
I would have loved to see the huskers play Michigan that year, it would have been one hell of a game. I do think Nebraska would have won because Michigan had a great Defense but their offense was suspect. Nebraska had both a good offense and defense
@michiganfootballfan Nebraska did split the title with Michigan in 97. You guys did get the AP poll but the coaches ranked Nebraska #1. Wish we would have played though
@michiganfootballfan they have this idea that they will be back in the title game next year as if its easy...they open with LSU in cowboy stadium they have to travel to stanford, to UW and to arizona....they wont win them all.
@michiganfootballfan exactly....i swear i have seen maybe 9 Oregon games and they didn't do any of the crap that they did in the title game....but then again like i said they did the exact same thing in the rose bowl last year...living in Portland you hear things about the program and its nothing new seeing how ignorant and arrogant chip Kelly is...nobody in the state likes to talk to him or have him on their radio shows because the guy is nick saban X10 dude is a complete dick.
@michiganfootballfan oregon's coach is really arrogant and he called plays arrogantly....he knew that the read option was NOT working yet he kept running it...he passed for 374 yards yet on that goal line drive he ran the read option 4 TIMES IN A ROW!!! that game was a splitting image of the rose bowl last year....he forgot what got him to the big game and tried to be a little too arrogant...the defense got oregon the ball back so many times and he blew it for them.
@michiganfootballfan from what i hear mark cuban is trying to put his millions into a playoff....but like you said were stuck with the BCS...too much money for these few men to make then sharing the pot.
@michiganfootballfan you hit it right on the nose...the NCAA does not claim 13 titles from alabama...thats why they are called CLAIMED TITLES same thing with notre dame, michigan and USC...the reason is because before the AP anyone could crown you champion and some were retroactive titles. bama got credit for the title in 1941 bama finished 20th in the AP but they "claim" to be champs...when you look up the records you will laugh your ass off..
@michiganfootballfan michigan doesnt have much to discredit...what does leather helmet football prove? i just go off of stats and facts...scholarships were equal for ALL TEAMS around 1975 or so...a level playing field was the best thing to ever happen to college football.
@michiganfootballfan if college football was about tradition the BCS wouldnt exist...we would still have traditional rose bowls and orange bowls...we wouldnt have the go daddy.com bowl or the fight hunger bowl...its all about money now...the days of tradition are dead. you can count all the titles you want before the AP so does army and princeton but no one takes them serious. college football now is a "what have you done for me lately" sport.
@michiganfootballfan who said it wasnt a split title?...MICHIGAN HAS 2 RINGS SINCE THE AP (1936)....anything before then is suspect...back then you had instances where up to 4 teams would share championship....if joe blow magazine called you the champ you could call yourself the champ....im not a nebraska fan and the fact is nebraska DIDNT WIN THEM BACK THEN so deal with the fact that michigan has been an underachieving program for a long time....almost 70 years. give me rings not tradition.
@michiganfootballfan being #1 in wins all time only means one thing...you've been playing football longer than some programs...what matters is championships and michigan has 1 since 1948....im sure they won a lot of game in between but no titles...team like miami, florida state, USC etc...have passed michigan when it comes to what people care about...you can have all the tradition in the world but nothing to show for it. michigan hasnt won a big game since 1997.
@michiganfootballfan nobody has dirt on michigan??? lets remember that michigan only has 1 title since 1948!! what have they done in modern day football really???
no..the #5 team in the nation doesnt just lose AT HOME TO A 1AA TEAM...was nebraska even ranked when they lost to KU? i think not...they were rebuilding. i dont know what you mean by "dirt" but many programs have passed michigan i was at the michigan/oregon game at autzen and then watched them embarrassed michigan at the big house.
@michiganfootballfan hold on now....how in the hell can you bring up nebraska losing to kansas and getting 76 dropped on them when michigan LOST TO A 1AA TEAM AT HOME RANKED #5??????
@neoconretard UT won the national title because FSU was without their starting QB...and UT only won by 7....if weinke plays the game is not close and UT loses in typical UT fashion.
Tennessee had by far the better team in this game but got out played we had Manning lewis .Al wilson ..L littlie. D. Grant...and more few of them guys whent on to win super bowls ....Huskers game to play in this one congeats to them on out playing and winning a good game ..but they had a better team ? i dont think so
@teuen101 so tennesse is a better team cuz they can't stop nebraskas power run game, ok ok gotcha. wow man u seriously need to check up on your history nebraska 95 and 97 are the best teams in college football history.PERIOD!
@teuen101 Oh yeah, Tennessee was by far the better team losing 42-17. It just goes to show you how powerful Nebraska was by crushing those NFL players. And btw 1997 Nebraska's players went on to be successful NFL players. Ahman Green and Grant Wistrom went on to win superbowls.
@teuen101 tennessee lost!!! HOW IN THE HELL DO THEY HAVE A BETTER TEAM???? as i recall the final score was 42-17....not only did they lose they got SMOOOOOOOOKED!!
i was at this game, and as for the slow start rushing, it rained pretty much the 3 days leading up to the game, and stopped about 2 hours before kickoff. Also there werent alot of bad calls either way. You want to compare college to NFL, you cant look at all the good NFL players that come from Div II nowhere schools. I prefer college, they play for pride, not paychecks

I love the comment from the commentator - "If they hadn't turned the ball over the in the first half, I'm not sure Nebraska would have scored." That's the most ridiculous commentating ever. You can't even know that for sure. There's no way. Besides, we dominated the second half so bad, you could throw the first half out and we still destroyed them.
I'm not going to get in to whether Nebraska would have beaten Michigan or not. Too many variables and it's all guess work. I will simply point out the fact that Nebraska played more teams ranked in the final top 10 than Michigan did and beat them by a wider margin of victory. Nebraska also faced a much tougher bowl opponent and beat them much more convincingly than Michigan beat Washington State. One true champ,GO BIG RED!!!
@michiganfootballfan You had a fabulous defense with Charles Woodson leading the way. But Nebraska had a good defense and a great offense. You had a suspect offense. Thus Nebraska's defense keeps it close until the 4th quarter. You contain their ground game but the constant pounding takes it tolls on your defense and Nebraska takes the lead and the game in the 4th quarter.
@willmickel71 Couldnt have put it better myself, Michigan Wolvercunts, we would have slaughtered you! Be thankful it was shared (which by the way is a fucking joke!)
@willmickel71 Couldnt have put it better myself, Michigan Wolvercunts, we would have slaughtered you! Be thankful it was shared (which by the way is a fucking joke!)
@neoconretard It is very interesting how Tee Martin wound up wining a National Title against Florida State. The BCS was put in play that year and it has sucked ask the 2007 Kansas team that probably should have won it all.
@redringofdeath3000 the 2007 kansas team didnt even win the big 12....they also only beat 1 ranked team during the regular season (#24 kansas state) they didnt play texas or oklahoma....
@michiganfootballfan The way I see it at the end of the Mizzou-Nebraska game of 1997, the refs blew a pass interference call on Mizzou that would have put Nebraska at first and goal at the one with plenty of time... So we needed a fluke catch to win the game it should not have come down to that anyway. The football gods saw fit to give it to God's favorite team. Not taking anything away from Michigan's greatest team in 50 years had great respect for them. But Nebraska was the balanced team.
wait didnt nebraska beat michigan a couple years ago in the alamo bowl and wait isnt michigan over rated almost every year and then they still get destroyed o and didnt they loose to ap state a couple years ago ha ha ha ha ha ha
banksfan02, you're not paying attention. Nebraska finished #1 in the coaches poll, Michigan #1 in the AP (sportswriters) poll. That's why they split the national title. OK, cuss me out because that seems to be the only way you can get your point across. They say people who talk like you do are too ignorant to use the language without profanity. Come on dummy stupid, hurt my feelings.
The only reason Michigan got a share of the title was because the media felt sorry for them and they hadn't won a title in 50 yrs. Nebraska has a way of destroying pocket passers and Griese would have trouble finishing the game just like Peyton Manning did. NU56-MU14
you're an idiot....nebraska was 1 in the coaches, and michigan was 1 in the AP poll. And let me ask you a question....would you agree that the the TRUE national championship that is recognized by everyone is the trophy with the crystal ball? Of course you would...and guess what? that's the coaches trophy. suck it
OK... Who has more Conference Titles? National Titles? All time wins? MICHIGAN you fucking sorry ass bitch. You think anybody outside of Nebraska gives a fuck about your program? If you live in Nebraska I feel sorry for you, no pro teams WTF
LMAO at a Meetchicken fan talking smack. You must be bored seeing your team stay home for the holidays once again. You're right though, Michigan does have the Detroit Lions, a place where careers die. Congrats on the National Titles before the automobile was invented, was that a 4 or 5 game schedule?
@banksfan02 michigan has 2 national titles since the beginning of the AP which started in 1936...any other title before then are highly suspect and more than likely shared with multiple teams.....nebraska has no pro team??? neither does michigan ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.....the lions all time passing leader is still BOBBY LAYNE!!!!! i believe he has been retired since the 60s....

Wow clearly 6Ott7, your memory is a little fuzzy from back then, a game between Mich and Nebraska that year would have been the greatest game ever played i am a huge Michigan fan and to just say that we would have lost is crazy. Charles Woodson was one of the greatest College players of all time, WHENEVER he was on the field, he was the best player on the field period and not to mention our D was insane that year. And this game here shows why Manning didnt win the Heisman.
I went to Michigan. Graduated in 03. But I have to say, Nebraska would have beat us in 97. Hands down. That program was unbelievable. Best in history.
@huiblinks182 Sorry, but our D line would not have been able to contain that offense. C Woodson would not have been a factor. They were too good. Sorry.
@6Ott7 Woodson would have been a factor in that Nebraska would get about 0 yards of passing instead of 100.
"This Tennessee team was just as good as Michigan. If not better. Pull up the roster on this Vols team. In a way, you saw what Nebraska would have done to us in the Rose bowl."
Did Tennessee give up 8.9 points a game on Defense? NO! Their defense wasn't great at all. And do you even know your own team at all? They had the most players who eventually went on to the NFL.
@huiblinks182 They have an SEC schedule. You can't even compare the stats between us and the Vols. We jogged through the Big 10. The Vols would have done the same. Im just trying to make a point. Sorry, but 97 Nebraska was unstoppable. Hands down.
@6Ott7 The Big 10 was better back then. Tennessee played THREE SEC teams that ended that year RANKED. They lost to both Florida and Nebraska, the only 2 top ten teams they played against.
Yes, I can understand how you could make the case that Nebraska was better. I disagree with it but I see the case. But to say that Tennessee was better or on par with Michigan in any facet of the game in 1997 would be humorous coming from a Tennessee fan but sad coming from a Michigan fan..
@6Ott7 Also, you forget that Michigan went undefeated in what was rated the toughest college football schedule in 1997, the same way strength of schedule is measured today in the BCS.
Is it unbelievable that the top rush defense team would stop nebraska? Especially if they were given a month to prepare against the option? You say that Charles Woodson would be a non factor, but he's the best run-defense cornerback IN THE NFL TODAY.
@huiblinks182 lmao michigan would have got slaughtered by nebraska. we the champs you guys the chumps. charles woodson's little ass is not going to stop any of these guys running over him.
@bbender1986 i'm pretty sure our #1 ranked run defense would have been up to the task. the only reason you had a national championship was because fault sorry cuz your coach was retiring.
@huiblinks182 If I remember right the odds makers came out with a what if point spread for the game of -7 points in Nebraska's favor. Nebraska would've wore down Michigan to the tune of 24-14 to 31-14. It's really too bad that those two teams didn't meet. If we had some better people that controlled college football, an extra game could've and should've been set up after the bowl games. I remember Osborne even saying he would support that.
@huiblinks182 We were able to stop Peyton Manning... let that sink in your head for a min. PEYTON MANNING. Quite possibly the best QB of this time. Woodson would have only been a factor on Special Teams... and that's if Michigan would have gotten Nebraska to punt alot.
What would have happend, would have been: Woodson starting off deep, then as the game went on he would have pushed closer to the line to help stop the run, then Nebraska would have run Play Action all day. Unstoppable.
You had no receivers. NONE. We would just stack the line on you with our #1 ranked run defense. That's it. Woodson would just be a luxury against a scrub receiver. You never played a defense like ours the entire season.
@huiblinks182 Also, this Tennessee team was just as good as Michigan. If not better. Pull up the roster on this Vols team. In a way, you saw what Nebraska would have done to us in the Rose bowl
Okay Florida lost to Ole Miss.USC lost to Oregen State.Texas lost to Texas Tech so the only real champion here is Utah and they beat an overrated Alabama team who was number 1 for like what 8 weeks running. What the hell? i dont really care either way im a husker fan.GO BIG RED!!!
Nebraska and Michigan both went undefeated; they deserved to share the title.
Until there's a playoff, you'll always have these types of argument. Heck, just last season, we had FOUR teams that had legitimate claims to the National Championship (Florida, USC, Utah, and Texas).
At that time the Big 12 was the best confrence is football, they kicked the crap out of us, they were a much more physical football team, any Vol fan that sayd diff, needs their heads checked lol.
Michigan won their game...they were #1. They should've been National Champions. Period. Nebraska was #1, won their game against Miami in '94...and Penn State didn't get a split despite being more impressive in its bowl win. Politics and garbage settles more "championships" in college football than performance. It's a joke. Utah getting shut out, Nebraska winning a parting gift national title for Osbourne, Penn State getting shut out...it's a bunch of crap how the communists of the NCAA operate
Michigan barely beat a poor Washington St. team led by Brian Leaf while NU was dominating a very talented Payton Manning led Tennessee team, enough said ! Actually let me add that the 94 NU win just happened to be (in case you forgot) against Miami on their home field. Penn State beat a mediocre at best Oregon team that already had 3 losses against Hawaii, Utah and Wash. St, how could the voters put Penn St. # 1 ?? the only gripe Penn St. fans should have is they had to play a crap opponent.
too bad they didnt show Coach Fullmers face during the last few moments of the game....he looked as if he just saw what a TRUE Woodshedding really looked like up close and personal!!!
Nebraska was only +1 in Turnovers in this game Tennessee gave up 409 yards rushing, I think they lost the game because Nebraska was the far superior team.
Nebraska, like all running teams, start slowly but like a juggernaut they just don't stop. 3 ypc becomes 4ypc and finally the bruising offensive line breaks your will leaves you gasping for air. 5 ypc, 6 ypc 8 ypc and you are pummelled into submission.
Did you ever play football? Turnovers are usually caused, not just "oops I dropped the ball". Also, Statman is right plus one doesn't constitute a 25 point ass whoopin.
Right. And no I've never played football. And your also right about turnovers alone didn't beat Tennessee. Turnovers at bad times did. And that powerful running game of Nebraska.
matt61387 is a moron I don't care if you defend the Big ten But Atleast make it sound like you know what you are talking about yourself. Whats the Difference between the BIG 10 and BIG 12. I damn team the big ten has eleven teams numbnuts
Being objective, as I don't care for either team, the 1997 Nebraska Cornhuskers would have outclassed this Michigan team. Watch the wholesale destruction of #3 Peyton Manning-led Tennessee squad in the Orange Bowl and argue differently. Too bad that the Big 10 and Pac 10 were held hostage to that Rose Bowl game, which prevented Michigan and Penn St (in 1994) for playing for the NC. It cost Penn State and cost Michigan the consensus NC. The Hukser o-line would have leaned on UM by the 4th qtr.
Objective my ass, you wanna talk about wholesale destruction of #3 ranked teams? Try 34-8 and that was without needing Tennessee to hand them 21 points on a silver platter. Three teams Nebraska played and had very close games with: Colorado, Mizzou, and Washington, those teams got trainwrecked by Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State. Not only was Michigan playing the best non conference schedule in the country they were playing the best by far in conference schedule in the country.
That Nebraska offensive line would have grinded Michigan at the point of attack and Michigan's slow perimeter defense would have been powerless agains the Husker veer attack. Some coach watched the Orange Bowl and was so overwhelmed by the Nebraska team, he voted Michigan third, that's how impressive that team had been in Miami.
Your knowledge of American football wouldn't fill an ant's thimble. Typical from Ann Arbor self-entitlement yobs who pine for the days of Yost. Little 11 Conference nitwits.
guys wow we beat a good tennessee team with payton manning and u almost lost to wasington state. We beat a good oklahoma 69-7. And beat other good teams shut up michigan fans nebraska would have won 35-21 that is my score comparing the teams.
Again a typical corn fed moron. Michigan's D gave up 20 once and you think Nebraska's gonna put up 35. And Oklahoma a good team? They were terrible. Mizzou, OT win that was allowed due to 3 missed calls on the game tying TD, got smoked 31-10 by Ohio State. Colorado, shut down 27-3 by Michigan, go on to lose a really close one to NU 27-24. Washington, NU squeaks by on a last minute TD to put the game away, 2 months later MSU 51, Washington 23. Get off the crack kid, it kills brain cells.
Why do you keep trying to brag about Tennessee anyway, everyone knows they weren't even close to 3rd, FSU, OSU, Wazzou, and several others were better. Nebraska beat an overrated team who was overrated because Michigan kept smoking highly ranked teams so Tennessee ended up ranked high because they weren't losing to the cupcakes they played week in and week out.
Oh your DAD says that the Huskers are better, why should I have to admit that NU was better when they weren't? I coach football too and having actually watched both play(unlike you), I know that based on the stats, based on common opponents, based on records, and based on flat out talent Michigan was the better team.
u know what man i dont want to get in a fight can we have peace i said some bad things u said some bad things lets just call it off. I will say if it makes u feel better i hate albama and noter dame
not to get back into a fight but nebraska fans arnet like that man. We are full of heart passion and determination thats what we r. But lets not get back into a fight.
If it weren't for poor officiating and poor clock management, WSU beats Michigan in the Rose Bowl anyway. Nebraska beat their bowl opponent by 25. What was the Rose Bowl score? It was a little closer, if I remember because Michigan had no offense. NU wins by 2 TDs over Michigan hands down.
Now that's funny, it just shows that you have no clue what you're talking about, since very poor officiating dropped 28 points in Nebraska's lap on a silver platter against Tennessee and it was also bad officiating that kept Washington State close. Tennessee was deserving of maybe a 10 or 15 ranking, the SEC was by far the weakest league in America. Anyone with a clue what they're talking about knows that Michigan was better.
Gotta laugh at the no D conference bragging about their offenses.
Michigan scored 30+ points in 3 games that year. Nebraska DIDNT score AT LEAST 30+ points in three games.
Michigan was THE ONLY Big 10 team to win their bowl game. Not only did the rest of the teams lose, most of them lost big. (Michigan St 51-23, Ohio St 31-14, Wisconsin 33-6) This illustrates most of the "ranked" teams Michigan played, could not hold up outside their conference.
Bowl games, Michigan barely beat Wash St 21-16. Nebraska beat a Manning lead Tenn 42-17.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
How many teams scored at least 24 on Nebraska? 5. How many games did Michigan allow more than 10 points? 5.
And bowl records? Losing to Washington, Georgia, Florida, and FSU(all top 10) is more impressive than losing to UCLA, Colorado State, and Purdue(Big 10 team moron)(1 of those teams were top 10). 12 team Big 12 sends 5 teams to bowls while the 11 team Big 10 sends 7 teams to bowl games. Big 12 sucked, Big 10 was a far better conference, and the best in America by far.
Excuse me Florida and Georgia were top 20, not 10, and the fact that the Big 10 sent 2 more teams with 1 less member clearly illustrates they did in fact do better in nonconference play. Your argument: MSU(5th in B10) vs Washington(2nd in P10), Ohio State(3rd B10) vs FSU(1st ACC), Penn State(2nd B10, Michigan destroyed their best players) vs Florida(2nd SEC) and my favorite Purdue(4th B10) vs OK State(3rd B12). Come out 1-3. Should be denigrate when compared to the Big 12 which was....
K-State(2nd B12) vs. Syracuse(2nd Big East), Mizzou(4th B12) vs Colorado State(WAC champ), OK State(3rd B12) vs Purdue(4th B10), and Texas A&M(5th B12) vs UCLA(3rd P10). Result:1-3. Objective? Big 10: less conf teams, more bowl teams playing better teams same wins. Big 12: more teams in conference, less teams go to bowls, play inferior competition and same wins. The no D league does today and always has sucked it up as a conference. Conf strength in 97: 1 B10 2 P10 3 ACC 4 SEC 5 B12 6 Big East
Try to be an adult and keep the name calling to yourself.
Thanks for illustrating my point even more. The Big 10 played (and still does) a bunch of overrated Big 10 teams, get themselves into bowl games, and then lose. Nice.
Back to my points, you still didnt justify MU barely beating Wash compared to NU detroying a Manning led Tenn. And why did EVERY Big 10 team (except Mich) lose their bowl game?
You are such a clueless idiot, you ever notice that all conferences that wish they were good always brag up their offenses while the true best stand on their defense? And you further proved what a moron you are since B10 and B12 teams played the same # of conference games so B10 got more bowl teams by winning in nonconference play(including spanking a bunch of B12 teams actually). And explain why only Nebraska won their bowl when, as I said, UM WASN'T the only B10 team to win their bowl.
So here's the crux of it moron, you're trying to make a case for a better team based on a conference and to make matter worse the rest of your argument is self defeating and you are clueless for even trying to pursue it.
Oh yeah, that HUGE win Purdue had of 33-20. How could I have missed that?
Wow. I just realized your only 21. So what, you were probably 11 or 12 years old when this game took place?
This is my fault, I should have checked. Once you grow up a few more years feel free to come back and have an adult conversation. Who knows, by then your precious conference might even play a conference championship like the other big boys.....but I wouldnt get your hopes up.
Oh look, you just ranted and tried to deflect without making any real response to my argument. So while you're insulting me for not being able to argue, while really all you were doing was trying to deflect from the fact that you have no argument, you have no argument of your own. Your logic is, if anything, entertaining for me to laugh at.

Washington State's 1,000 yard rusher Black was out against Michigan in the Rose Bowl!! Nebraska would have Blasted michigan
BAMADUVALREPP 6 months ago
@ericberryisgod Michigan would have steamrolled Nebraska in 97. Charles Woodson was by far the most talented player that year. He could do it all. Tell me how the number 1 team in the nation didnt win the national championship. Michigan played a MUCH harder schedule than Nebraska that year. Oh and by the way, Nebraska had a 5th down on the final drive against Missouri. That miracle catch never should have happened.
JonnyPeace07 6 months ago
@JonnyPeace07 While Michigan did perhaps have their greatest team in their history in 1997, some of the things you stated just aren't correct. #1 Nebraska did not need a 5th down (that was Colorado vs Mizzou in 1990). #2 You stated Michigan had the more difficult schedule. While Michigan's schedule strength was ranked #32 that year Nebraska's wasn't far behind at #41. Michigan played 7 ranked teams during the season beat them by an average of 13.0 pts but only 3 finished ranked.
statman29neb 6 months ago 5
@JonnyPeace07 part 2, Nebraska played 4 ranked teams during the season beat them by an average of 26.8 points per game, and 5 teams Nebraska played finished ranked in the AP top 25. Michigan on defense was ranked #1 in the Nation, Nebraska's defense was comparable at #6.. However on offense Michigan only averaged 388.9 yards a game on offense (207.0 passing, 181 rushing) Nebraska was ranked #1 offensively Nebraska averaged 392 a game RUSHING! More than Michigan did running and passing..
statman29neb 6 months ago 4
@JonnyPeace07 part 3 Nebraska averaged 514 yards a game total offense gave up just 73 yards a game on the ground and 184 passing.. The way I see it Michigan would have slowed Nebraska down no doubt, however that task would have been much more daunting for the Wolverines than for Nebraska slowing the sub par Michigan offense down. Prediction at the Half Nebraska leads 14 to 7, but pulls away in the second half winning 38 to 17.
statman29neb 6 months ago 4
@JonnyPeace07 No one disputes Charles Woodson's talent. But if you think Michigan would have steam rolled NU, you are out of your mind. Michigan barely beat a Washington State team whose best player was RYAN LEAF! NU slobberknocked a team with Peyton Manning, Leonard Little, Jamal Lewis, and Peerless Price. What makes you think UM would have done any better?
MrFooty21 6 months ago 2

@JonnyPeace07 Nebraska had a 5th down against Missouri in 1997? Wrong team and way off on the year. Wow.
Fans of either team pretending they would be certain to take down the other undefeated team are just kidding themselves. The way the bowl games went though, NU looked to have the edge.

@pp3k3jamail
the national title team didn't have peyton manning or leonard little. Nebraska had some great teams in the 90s and they would have crushed Michigan and Desmond How.... I mean Charles Woodson... I get them confused. (who would have never won the Heisman if he played for a team other than Michigan, Notre Dame, or Ohio State) And the 95 Huskers are the greatest college football team of all time hands down.
ericberryisgod 6 months ago
I would have loved to see the huskers play Michigan that year, it would have been one hell of a game. I do think Nebraska would have won because Michigan had a great Defense but their offense was suspect. Nebraska had both a good offense and defense

@michiganfootballfan you hit it right on the nose...the NCAA does not claim 13 titles from alabama...thats why they are called CLAIMED TITLES same thing with notre dame, michigan and USC...the reason is because before the AP anyone could crown you champion and some were retroactive titles. bama got credit for the title in 1941 bama finished 20th in the AP but they "claim" to be champs...when you look up the records you will laugh your ass off..
getyoasshome 1 year ago
@michiganfootballfan michigan doesnt have much to discredit...what does leather helmet football prove? i just go off of stats and facts...scholarships were equal for ALL TEAMS around 1975 or so...a level playing field was the best thing to ever happen to college football.
getyoasshome 1 year ago
@michiganfootballfan if college football was about tradition the BCS wouldnt exist...we would still have traditional rose bowls and orange bowls...we wouldnt have the go daddy.com bowl or the fight hunger bowl...its all about money now...the days of tradition are dead. you can count all the titles you want before the AP so does army and princeton but no one takes them serious. college football now is a "what have you done for me lately" sport.
getyoasshome 1 year ago
@michiganfootballfan who said it wasnt a split title?...MICHIGAN HAS 2 RINGS SINCE THE AP (1936)....anything before then is suspect...back then you had instances where up to 4 teams would share championship....if joe blow magazine called you the champ you could call yourself the champ....im not a nebraska fan and the fact is nebraska DIDNT WIN THEM BACK THEN so deal with the fact that michigan has been an underachieving program for a long time....almost 70 years. give me rings not tradition.
getyoasshome 1 year ago
@michiganfootballfan being #1 in wins all time only means one thing...you've been playing football longer than some programs...what matters is championships and michigan has 1 since 1948....im sure they won a lot of game in between but no titles...team like miami, florida state, USC etc...have passed michigan when it comes to what people care about...you can have all the tradition in the world but nothing to show for it. michigan hasnt won a big game since 1997.
getyoasshome 1 year ago
@michiganfootballfan nobody has dirt on michigan??? lets remember that michigan only has 1 title since 1948!! what have they done in modern day football really???
no..the #5 team in the nation doesnt just lose AT HOME TO A 1AA TEAM...was nebraska even ranked when they lost to KU? i think not...they were rebuilding. i dont know what you mean by "dirt" but many programs have passed michigan i was at the michigan/oregon game at autzen and then watched them embarrassed michigan at the big house.

0328MrJim 1 year ago
@michiganfootballfan You had a fabulous defense with Charles Woodson leading the way. But Nebraska had a good defense and a great offense. You had a suspect offense. Thus Nebraska's defense keeps it close until the 4th quarter. You contain their ground game but the constant pounding takes it tolls on your defense and Nebraska takes the lead and the game in the 4th quarter.

@6Ott7 You're an embarrassment of a Michigan fan. And a dumb one too. Best in history? It's like your school isn't the winningest program ever.
Did you even watch any Michigan games in 97? Did that defense give up running yards?
huiblinks182 1 year ago
@huiblinks182 Sorry, but our D line would not have been able to contain that offense. C Woodson would not have been a factor. They were too good. Sorry.
6Ott7 1 year ago
@6Ott7 Woodson would have been a factor in that Nebraska would get about 0 yards of passing instead of 100.
"This Tennessee team was just as good as Michigan. If not better. Pull up the roster on this Vols team. In a way, you saw what Nebraska would have done to us in the Rose bowl."
Did Tennessee give up 8.9 points a game on Defense? NO! Their defense wasn't great at all. And do you even know your own team at all? They had the most players who eventually went on to the NFL.
huiblinks182 1 year ago
@huiblinks182 They have an SEC schedule. You can't even compare the stats between us and the Vols. We jogged through the Big 10. The Vols would have done the same. Im just trying to make a point. Sorry, but 97 Nebraska was unstoppable. Hands down.
6Ott7 1 year ago
@6Ott7 The Big 10 was better back then. Tennessee played THREE SEC teams that ended that year RANKED. They lost to both Florida and Nebraska, the only 2 top ten teams they played against.
Yes, I can understand how you could make the case that Nebraska was better. I disagree with it but I see the case. But to say that Tennessee was better or on par with Michigan in any facet of the game in 1997 would be humorous coming from a Tennessee fan but sad coming from a Michigan fan..
huiblinks182 1 year ago
@6Ott7 Also, you forget that Michigan went undefeated in what was rated the toughest college football schedule in 1997, the same way strength of schedule is measured today in the BCS.
Is it unbelievable that the top rush defense team would stop nebraska? Especially if they were given a month to prepare against the option? You say that Charles Woodson would be a non factor, but he's the best run-defense cornerback IN THE NFL TODAY.
huiblinks182 1 year ago

huiblinks182 9 months ago

@statman29neb Exactly.

Not only was Michigan playing the best non conference schedule in the country they were playing the best by far in conference schedule in the country.

nebraska killed #3 tennessee
michigan almost lost to #8 washington state in their bowl game
tennessee would have beaten michigan in 97

Typical idiotic Nebraska fan, you have no proof and just claim what you wish the truth was.
matt61387 2 years ago
That Nebraska offensive line would have grinded Michigan at the point of attack and Michigan's slow perimeter defense would have been powerless agains the Husker veer attack. Some coach watched the Orange Bowl and was so overwhelmed by the Nebraska team, he voted Michigan third, that's how impressive that team had been in Miami.

That comment so clearly demonstrates that you have no clue what your talking about that I have no response to it.

And beat other good teams shut up michigan fans nebraska would have won 35-21 that is my score comparing the teams.
dannyhuskerjay 2 years ago
Again a typical corn fed moron. Michigan's D gave up 20 once and you think Nebraska's gonna put up 35. And Oklahoma a good team? They were terrible. Mizzou, OT win that was allowed due to 3 missed calls on the game tying TD, got smoked 31-10 by Ohio State. Colorado, shut down 27-3 by Michigan, go on to lose a really close one to NU 27-24. Washington, NU squeaks by on a last minute TD to put the game away, 2 months later MSU 51, Washington 23. Get off the crack kid, it kills brain cells.
matt61387 2 years ago

If it weren't for poor officiating and poor clock management, WSU beats Michigan in the Rose Bowl anyway. Nebraska beat their bowl opponent by 25. What was the Rose Bowl score? It was a little closer, if I remember because Michigan had no offense. NU wins by 2 TDs over Michigan hands down.
briant420 2 years ago 3
Now that's funny, it just shows that you have no clue what you're talking about, since very poor officiating dropped 28 points in Nebraska's lap on a silver platter against Tennessee and it was also bad officiating that kept Washington State close. Tennessee was deserving of maybe a 10 or 15 ranking, the SEC was by far the weakest league in America. Anyone with a clue what they're talking about knows that Michigan was better.
Gotta laugh at the no D conference bragging about their offenses.

wah wah who cares
Everyone knows that Nebraska would have mop the floors with Michigan in 1997

Objective?

How many teams scored at least 24 on Nebraska? 5. How many games did Michigan allow more than 10 points? 5.
And bowl records? Losing to Washington, Georgia, Florida, and FSU(all top 10) is more impressive than losing to UCLA, Colorado State, and Purdue(Big 10 team moron)(1 of those teams were top 10). 12 team Big 12 sends 5 teams to bowls while the 11 team Big 10 sends 7 teams to bowl games. Big 12 sucked, Big 10 was a far better conference, and the best in America by far.
matt61387 2 years ago

I'm still waiting for some answers....
mrbenstewart 2 years ago
You are such a clueless idiot, you ever notice that all conferences that wish they were good always brag up their offenses while the true best stand on their defense? And you further proved what a moron you are since B10 and B12 teams played the same # of conference games so B10 got more bowl teams by winning in nonconference play(including spanking a bunch of B12 teams actually). And explain why only Nebraska won their bowl when, as I said, UM WASN'T the only B10 team to win their bowl.
matt61387 2 years ago
So here's the crux of it moron, you're trying to make a case for a better team based on a conference and to make matter worse the rest of your argument is self defeating and you are clueless for even trying to pursue it.
matt61387 2 years ago
Oh yeah, that HUGE win Purdue had of 33-20. How could I have missed that?
Wow. I just realized your only 21. So what, you were probably 11 or 12 years old when this game took place?
This is my fault, I should have checked. Once you grow up a few more years feel free to come back and have an adult conversation. Who knows, by then your precious conference might even play a conference championship like the other big boys.....but I wouldnt get your hopes up.
mrbenstewart 2 years ago
Oh look, you just ranted and tried to deflect without making any real response to my argument. So while you're insulting me for not being able to argue, while really all you were doing was trying to deflect from the fact that you have no argument, you have no argument of your own. Your logic is, if anything, entertaining for me to laugh at.
