@dangerousdavis100 the new hand guard is designed so you can attach things to it like the laser light module which is basically a torch an also the front hand grip which doubles as a bipod. And probably loads of other stuff can be added on.

I have never been a member of the British armed forces but follow their exploits as much as I can wherever they are. I have a couple of questions if I may? In the last year I have noticed that the barrel housing on the SA80s that our troops carry has changed in design and that some have handles jutting out from the bottom of the barrels. I am interested why these changes have been made, practical reasons no doubt but I do not know anyone serving to ask? Great respect to all British forces!

@tontyismynameyeh No British or ISAF forces would wear their berets on operations unless the area is deemed 100% secure and abundent of enemy forces. This is never the case in Afghanistan at the moment. In Iraq some untits wore berets and other non ballastic head dress whilst on patrol but the idea was to show the public that the area is safe. so yeah its a publicity photo which is fair enough as to earn that green beret aint easy.
