OMG I am a 27 year old English man who has never been able to say 'three' before in his life properly - I always said 'free', much to everyone else's amusement.
So thank you so much :D my friend sent me your link
Hello, I am from Brazil. I liked very much your explanation. For me the voiced th seems to change its sound depending on the word. For example: ' They ' sounds like day, but smooth sounds like smooze and in a current conversation it seems to sound just as a simple 'ey'. Do these differences really exist? Thanks.
Sorry to keep you waiting. My new account is eslclick, so I don't check here often.
Almost always, the "th" sound is evident, even in a fast-paced conversation. So the trick is getting used to sticking your tongue out and blowing out air. Start slowly, even if you feel a little awkward. You will eventually be able to say it quickly, without thinking about it.
I am confused sometimes with the pronunciation of these words thirsty, thirty and third and also thirteen.. please tell me.. how to pronounce them? I studied a degree in english as a foreing language, but my english is not very good, I need to practice and keep this, I am not giving classes but I want to improve it... thanks for your answers and good video.
Sorry to take so long to respond. My new account is eslclick.
From your writing, your English seems very good. All of the examples you gave use the voiceless "th" sound. All you have to do is stick out your tongue, between your teeth, leaving just enough space for a little air to come out (your teeth will be lightly touching your tongue).
But what makes your examples a little tricky is the "r" sound. Try easier words, like, "thank" and "thin".
Hiya, eslspells. I must say i've always had a problem with my th's. I guess its just laziness because i always ended up pronouncing it using an f or a d! Fursday instead on Thursday or Dat instead of That. Anyway i've got a grasp now on how to pronounce it but would like advice on how to string words together. I sometimes trip over my tongue. Will it improve over time or is there a trick? If you could help i would be most grateful. Keep up the good work, your a Star.
First, you're not lazy! It's really weird to stick your tongue out in the beginning. And even when you get it, you have to keep practicing, which can be frustrating.
But, you will get used to it. I promise. Just remember to stick your tongue out & blow out air.
English is a very difficult language to pronounce because letters don't always have the same sound. So, you often have to memorize words.
I wish I could give you some easy tips, but it is often unpredictable. For example, th is often voiced when it's in the middle of a word, but there are still exceptions. In the word, clothes, the th is silent! Crazy, right?
But don't be discouraged. Keep practicing, build your vocabulary, and your pronunciation will improve.
Thank you!! I really enjoyed your videos, specially the TH's sounds and pronunciation videos!! But I would like to ask you a favor!!! Could you please pronounce and record the pronunciation of:
lovelly at all! I am half brazilian and also half american and sometimes I have brazilian accent when I say something, but with you classes I am gettin it over, thank you so much!

Through is a little difficult to say, but if you push your tongue back as soon as you say you "th" sound AND purse your lips (think whistling), it should help.

Hi,
Thank you so much for your videos, they're very helpful.
But I have a question...how do you know which "th" to use. Example:
"That" is the "voiced th" ...but how do you know that you need to use the "voiced th" instead of the "silent th"?
Thanking you in advance! :D

Are you guys okay with the quality of the video?
I'm really disappointed at how it's looking.
I'll keep trying to work on it.
In the meantime, try pasting &fmt=18 to the end of url address. You may notice a small difference.
Thanks!
