After some cajoling and coniving my Mom, she got me a pair of PF Flyers and that magic ring. After showing it off and clowing around with it barely a couple hours, I eventually lost the magnifier in my front lawn. It taught me a lesson as a 7 year old on taking care of things I wanted so badly.
Those tatty sneakers were a big hit with wimpy bully bedevilled ( ever noticed how they are usually teachers and principal's kids?) children. that super PFC flying wedge really came in handy too it provided that extra boost of energy to
get those kids across their own yard and into the kitchen when the difference was crucial between an unbeliveable beat up and safety!
Had me one of those babies (the ring, that is). Bought another one years later but got rid of it - waaaay too small and not adjustable. You can buy PF Flyer remakes online but they are very pricey (by my reckoning, at least) - about 60 bucks for the basic canvass low-top. Someone needs to make metal replicas of the ring, only for adults or at least adjustable. I bet you could sell a fair number of them on the collector market.
B.F. Goodrich was the "primary sponsor" of the original series; Jonny often appeared in P.F. Flyers' "integrated commercials" during the show {as was the custom of most series that had one or two major advertisers at that time, with "the star(s)" pitching the product}.
in 1969 the old "dingo boots" were advertised in a kid's comic book with a young man using his foot to trip a robber running out of a convenience store. He says at the end frame that the day was saved "thanks to my dingo boots." I wonder if he could have tripped up somebody even worse if he was wearing p.f. flyers instead?
In 1965 at age eight, after days of begging I finally got my PF Flyers. But careless me, I had the code ring for only two days. I lost it in my front lawn.
I just showed my kid this video. he's 14 yrs old and was laughing. I told him that PF Flyers were the Nikes of the 60's......thanks for the memories!!!!!!!
I remember begging my my as a six-year olf for those PF flyers and ring, and I got them! They were so COOL to have--you were in the IN crowd at that time.
I just had to have P.F. flyers when I was a kid and I remember that ring was such a P.O.S.didn't work but I just had to have it.Man what a target promotion. And on top of it all the shoes were cheap too. Thanks for trip down memory lane.
I absolutely remember this! Man I wanted that fucking ring LOL. Marketing to kids works. Sad but true. I had a pair of PF flyers but never got that #$%^&* ring. maybe Ebay has it somewhere.

I remember this advert on Prime Time Telly - along with the "Jonny Quest" series on ABC (Back home in Chicago it was WBKB TV-7, now WLS).
Hafta admit I *begged* Mum & Dad for a pair on the strength of this advert.
But I never ever sold out & had *anything* to do with ANY sugar-sweetened 'kid' cereals - *ever*..
Just to let the records show accurately, eh?
Thanx fer this clip, m8..

I was about 6 when I got my pair with the ring. Lost mine too.I know the feeling.
I was just explaining to my teenage son that for surfer/skaters here in California "back in the day" PF Flyers were the precursor to Vans.
