  • Live... THE BEST

  • Seeing how multi-instrumental these guys are really gave me a new perspective on how cool the band is.

  • the word sublime, has never got a better use than describing this band live performance!

  • Saw them at a tiny bar in rochester last summer. Nice fellas.

  • The Lithium Stiffs / Crest are so great.

  • 37 people wil be rememered this halloween... they never realized they were dead

  • Most excellent indeed!!

  • Awesome band. Simon Cowell should be ashamed at peddling the crap he does when bands this good go unnoticed.

  • 07:13its really amazed=)

  • At 5:35 ish...is that a virtual vibraphone that the 2 guys are playing on?

  • Great. Nice. Sort of calming, isn´t it ?

  • 35 people don't no how to have sex

  • can you please tell me where i can download this concert?

  • I travelled so far away..... :D

  • hands down ... mr mcentire!

  • 34 ppl like hares :D

  • if you watch, or even just listen to all thirty minutes of you, then you are one of the luckiest people alive.

  • Tortoise is pretty much the only band that I would literally kill to see live. They replicate their songs so wonderfully. I've proudly been a Tortoise fan for years, and have no intention to stop, ever.

  • groovesandwich.typepad.com

For all the music rants and album reviews you can shake a stick at.

  • brandon boyd sent me!

  • Can anyone send me Tortoise records?

  • wowwwww fucking awsome :)

  • The Absolute End Of The World post-rock /instrumental /electronic band from Turin,Italy

    facebook/taeotw

  • Very gooooOOOOoooood!!!!

  • Tortoise excelent acoustic

  • mcentire is on one hell of a drummer, in the most subtle ways.

  • @TheLiesette Johnny Herndon is every bit as good, even more subtle

  • is he using a flat ride?

  • @theiconoclasm oh yea.

  • @theiconoclasm oh yea. if you notice at around 4:00 he switches to his crash to get a bell sound.

  • 17:32 "I'd rather fuck this band than you."

  • Esperandolos con ansias en Argentina!

  • just caught these g?uys an hour ago in esplanade. awesome.. 2 encores.. 4 songs extra.. or was it 5...

  • @QuarkS0up because there's apparently only been 32 stupid people to come across this video.

  • Anyone got something from the concerts Tortoise did with Daniel Lanois?

That to me must have been like a match made in heaven.

This is really good, and so Lanois' improvised psychedelic steel guitar on top of this must be like the sun setting on a beatiful metallic ocean or something!

    Thanx for uploading Theorem

  • What is the name of last song?

  • @brunohanover Seneca, the setlist is in the video description

  • 30 people really wished it were tortoises having sex instead....

  • Best version of Swung From The Gutters ever. If you make music and are not influenced by this band you suck.

  • @peterphilip Likewise, if you presume to be a drummer and don't like Tortoise, you're not a drummer.

  • @peterphilip while i do agree I think for saying that you need to turn everybody(musicians) you know onto this band

  • @peterphilip Right. This statement isnt fucking rediculous at all. go die.

  • These guys are amazing! Thanks.

  • this is fucking amazing

  • "Swung from the Gutters" is sweepingly gorgeous! I've been lucky enough to catch these guys live about 5 times, including Lounge Ax in Chicago. This is really a stand-out set. So much space. Thank you, Tortoise!

  • This kind of music makes me nervous.. wtf is this!(I hope I'm not offending anyone)

  • @moralnipatuljak1 - - maybe you're afraid you are almost getting it.. that's means you're almost there!

  • what i was waiting for tonigh was this sound (:

  • can anyone tell me the name of the amazing 1st song of this vid? thanks.

  • @AndresPajaro - The song is called Stretch (you are all right) off the album It's All Around You.

  • They're just a trendier Weather Report really, aren't they?!? Doesn't mean I don't like 'em, though...

  • Fantastic upload, Theorem. Thanks a lot.

  • i just watched this whole performance and simply put, i just don't get it. its just white noise to me.

  • @kspec00 ......how do you not get white noise, or for that matter just plain chill music. If you dont understand white noise then you must walk around confused as fuck every day of your life..

  • @TheSittingArchitect how about you calm down there you sensitive douche. People dont make music for it to be considered white noise. They want people to actually listen to it. White Noise and Music are opposites.

  • @kspec00 maybe you shoulda LISTENED instead of watching, personally i listen to: blue note jazz, warp records prominent artists (squarepusher, prefuse, aphex) classic grunge era indie such as pixies & my bloody valentine, stoner rock, 80s metal, euro ambient artists on labels such as mille plateaux & kranky, all the great classic hiphop from the late 80s/90s era plus a whole stack of rare funk..... TORTOISE who are not only awesome performers but utter utter studio geeks. go check it out

  • best part is @ 5:27'!! awesome song!

  • jazzy

  • i could listen to tortoise for all of eternity

  • I was watching a video about a tortoise having sex, and because of youtubes wonderful suggestion, I now really like this band. God bless the internet.

  • @winterchronic Why the fuck would you wanna watch a video about a tortoise having sex? Sorry i guess because you like tortoise now i shouldn't be questioning that ;)

  • @winterchronic Tortoise having sex, what the....?

  • @lalo6437 what the FUCK?

  • @lalo6437 Exactly what I was thinking when I read that haha XD

  • @winterchronic it truly is a wonderful thing

  • @winterchronic ...and bless the horny tortoises!

  • Any of you heard of U.S. Maple? John McEntire produced their Purple on Time record. They are the other end of the spectrum of sound. Chicago Blues.

I posted a good number of U.S. Maple videos.

    Check them out.

    Tortoise love U.S. Maple.

  • @SWISSCOLORVISION - yeah, US Maple is probably one of the best and most original bands I've ever heard. Acre Thrills is maybe my favorite record. It's a shame they don't exist anymore, but they put out a handful of great albums. Awesome band! Also, if you haven't heard of them, you should check out Shorty, which was the band that proceeded US Maple, with Al doing the vox. A little more Jesus Lizard-ish, but very great melodies. Thumb Wars is a great album :)

  • Does anyone know what's the name of the second-last song?? Thanks

  • @powpow1942 it's called Crest.

  • Comment removed

  • didn't this video have higher quality a while back? maybe I'm crazy

  • my ears just had an orgasm

  • ほぉ!かっこいい。

  • superb

  • Great shots! X is for Xylophone :)

  • @1BadEngr Vibraphone

  • Comment removed

  • Lovely band

  • swweeett

  • Wow I'm glad I looked up this band. This is amazing! One of the most original bands I've ever heard.

  • @CherubicGuardian Very good band indeed, but they remind me of this 80's band called Shadowfax. They quit after their mentor died of a heart attack.

  • Tortiose have always been one of my favorite bands. Slipknot? Aren't they a kiddy band that dresses up like monsters?

  • @musicajuro my dear friend as you said there is no compare tortoise is an elegant sophistic avant garde music slipknot it's only a band of monsters who only make noise in that genre i prefer dream theater who are more complex but tortoise it's elegant and harmony

  • is it just me or is the vibra phone player way out, you can almost see it in people's faces..

  • @typoism how do you mean?

  • is it just me or is the vibra phone player way out, you can almost see it in people's faces..

  • Seneca is da bomb!

  • 23:03 starts greatness

  • Awesome as always.

  • Love these boys music, seen them live and met them personally in a bar before. top musos

  • i didn't expect most of the crowd to be middle aged people. i better not be the only fan who's in early 20s.

  • @4thwonder haha. In that case, I better not be the only fan who's 15.

  • @4thwonder hahaha, try being 17!

  • @4thwonder I´m 21, you're not alone (:

  • @WakeUpEveryone I'm 16, spreading the love :)

  • tnite at millennium

  • the best band to ever come out of chicago...

  • Vibes are much too loud in the mix, and he's rushing a bit

  • 20:03 BEAUTIFUL

  • @Salobatera word! Crest.

  • Also, did anyone else notice that their guitar and bass look identical? how awesome

  • I have no idea why the word Slipknot is being used on the comments of a holy video...

jk. But 1. They're not even comparable and 2. Tortoise is actually talented and well trained musicians.

  • Simply amazing. I am in awe of this band.

  • Stop the shit Slipknot his powerful and tortoise beautiful they are all great.

  • One of those bands that you always kinda think might just be pretentious over-production. Until you see them live. And then you're blown away and buzzing for days. One of the few bands pushing music forwards.

  • theirs this cool jazzy extra jazzy song online called "ass rape sigurspeed!"

  • andy from the office on vibraphone.

  • 3:40 It's a me, Mario! Woo hoo!

  • Wow I just found out about these guys yesterday, and I wish I had known what I was missing out on.

  • one of my favorite bands - and this is a really great performance. Also, why are any of you people talking about slipknot? I'd really like an answer.

  • U R my weed buddy from this point on....cheers

  • i love FRIDGE

  • anyone of you could please tell me what is the name of that sort of electronic vibraphone the guitarist and the drummer play together in Ten Day Interval?

  • Agreed, I have to see them live. This is another band I discovered by accident and totally love!! P.S The Grateful Dead was never this dynamic, talented, or even interesting.

  • @slopium Grateful Dead was never interesting??? That's a really bold and totally stupid statement.

  • @phishinvan to be fair, I said they were never THIS interesting. Don't get me started, yes Iv'e heard a bunch of the dick's picks and other bootleg shit from them, I just find this to be more dynamic and creative.

  • It's like Pat Methany on a quaalude.

  • The Glitter Band....

  • anybody knows what drumset are that?

  • @RiccardoNorris Pick up the newest issue of Modern Drummer. They have a great article on Tortoise. 2 kits are C&C Custom drums. And one of the drummers plays and old Ludwig Giant Beat kit.

I'm not totally sure which 2 kits they are using on this performance. Hope that helps.

  • one of my favourite bands. This video shows me that I need to see them live, the records just don't do them justice.

  • @toaheatchucknuva8888 totally true

  • apenas sensações oportunas.

    paz

  • OMG! . great!

  • many have had two drummers, agreed, but none has had john mcentire as one of them (and if you listen to the sea and cake's the argument, you'll see why he counts for two himself)

  • just recently discovered tortoise. i'm instantly in love. their live set is amazing.

  • 贅沢な音だ

  • this is an important band.

  • shit and shine have like 7 drummers.

  • nothing new in two drummers... Traffic Allman Brothers Band Mothers of Invention JB's War Santana Talking Heads Gary Glitter Kraftwerk Blue Man Group Genesis
  • Grateful Dead

  • @chrisrazz7 Rare Earth

  • @chrisrazz7 Can't forget Grateful Dead.

  • Erm Adam and the Ants had to two drummers..hold the front page..

  • The best

  • The Grateful Dead first used two drummers in 1967.

  • slipknots not comparable to tortoise

  • @JinjaB123 Slipknot should not even EXIST in the same realm as Tortoise

  • @Barbosa123 Why not? i dont like slipknot but it's still better than 80% of the shit out there.... And hey, if there wasnt anything you disliked there wouldnt be anything you liked right? so thank slipknot for existing, helping you appreciate this :)

  • @JinjaB123 they are both bands consisting of several members, both use instruments, both bands are from america, both have performed all over the world, both make a living with their music, both are extreme in their music. Hey that wasn't so hard? ......... but i think comparing your face to my ass would even be easier. Actually it'd be useless, theyre rather identical...

  • @JinjaB123 who the fuck is comparing slipknot to tortoise

  • @mrosey21 hehe.. That's like comparing a t-bone steak with a rock. "I prefer the steak, rocks are just not comparable to a t-bone steak.. ".

    Completely different things.

  • @mrosey21 wow. haha. gay fags who are gay and possibly homosexual... those guys haha

  • @JinjaB123 Tortoise is a melodic and beautiful ambient musical group. Slipknot sounds good for metal. Different color horse.

  • @JinjaB123 slipknot is comparable to the sound of a genocide of tortoises in a blender

  • @JinjaB123

    Yes they are.

Compared to tortoise, slipknot are shit.

    Q.E.D

  • king crimson, 2 drummers, 1968

  • Tell me these guys DON'T know or admire Gentle Giant....

  • woooow!, how about a new one? X0)

  • masterpiece

  • 24:12 seneca

  • Dude, Tortoise plays with my uncle's band, The Sea and Cake.

  • круто

  • Saw these guys in Ann Arbor last night. Literally 4 feet away from the band. Best show ever.

  • I hope you weren't one of those fucktards in the front ruining the show. Thank God that nothing can destroy good music.

  • That WAS a good show. Especially the way Dan Bitney jumped around onstage.

  • Hey, I might have been standing next to you.

That was the best show ever.

  • tortoise rocks! rock'n'roll is dead, long live post-rock!

  • I'm relatively new to this band (within the last year) and I'm getting to see them next week in Toronto. From all the live clips I've been watching I already know it'll be something great.

  • i was at that show- fuckin incredible

  • when he starts playing the vibraphone it sounds like saga of harrison crabfeahers

  • I don't know why we're comparing bands with two drummers. But the prog-rock band '3' uses a classic drum-kit aswell as a precussionist playing a different rythym aswell.

  • hmmm...i wonder if they listen to Steve Reich....

  • Greatness!

  • When you look up "Real Deal", Tortoise is listed for music. Live it's like they reach into your heart and brain at the same time and flip the Tortoise switches on and you'll never be the same musically. Never.

  • fuckin' fantastic upload man.

  • These some Real Mothaphuckkin' G's.

  • This blows my mind. I don't even know where the sounds are coming from half of the time. Makes me think I should throw out my instruments and stop trying. Or renews my faith that music can be extraordinary. I can't decide. What a band.
