  • This app does all the hard work for you..just choose the song and where u want it to begin and end ..it converts and set as a custom tone for without syncing

    Iphone explorer

    filesonic. com/file/87111356

    (remove space before 'com')

  • If you do not want the hassle of syncing whenever you want to use a new song as your ringtone, you can try GeoRing. It allows you to use any song as your ringtone with just a few taps on your iPhone. Another cool feature is it can randomly pick a song from your playlist when your phone rings. You can find GeoRing in the App Store.

  • u the best ........

  • Why arent there any ringtones folders on iTunes 4.2??

  • much easier with "Blackbox"(from Miksoft.net). search it

  • It took me a while to figure out how to make the shortened music file. Could you make a video about that?

@suckertan89 - If you're using a Mac, Try copying the file where it's saved in your Finder and paste it into the Ringtones folder under iTunes media

  • but in the new software 3.1.3 iTunes wont let you convert to AAC, the option has been removed. Bummer.

  • my iphone doesnt even show up in the devices area

  • theres a simpler way! use WMM (windows movie maker) chop what you want save as song name Ringtone (or whatever you want! then import it to ringtones! Simple!

  • Yeah, shame you are just a lowlife who can't afford an iphone so you want to send people to a site that gets you votes and shit.

    What a SCAM!

  • its not working couse you all have the new version of itunes . what you'll wav 2 do is remove your new itunes and download/install the old version (7.4). if you got that it should work.

  • what if , when i go to advanced and m aac vertion is inactive ?

  • thenk you

  • Today's date is march 29th 2010 and it worked for me with the latest updates. Works great thanks.

  • will this work with iTunes 9 ?

  • @Linah992 no you need the old version . remove this one and download/install the old version(7.4) then it should work.

  • i cant get my m4r file to go into itunes ringtone folder.

    WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

  • so has apple patch this up yet cuase id lyk to try this

  • I love you man!!!!

  • Garage band does all this for you. Splice it into a sound clip there. Then go to share and select send ringtone to itunes.

  • Brilliant, simple, functional. Thank you.

  • or you can do it the easy way. Go to mobilespin and use their free online ringtone tool. After you use the tool to create your ringtone (in only 3 steps), it gives you a .m4r file which you put in iTunes and sync and you are done! You can create as many ringtones as you want! Remember if you have iTune songs (which are M4P format), convert them to MP3 first, there are many free tools to do this

  • does this work on pc?

    [Windows]

After rename to m4r, DOUBLE CLICK IT !!

  • Cool man :) I also recieved my iphone for free:) From here: freebies(.)comoj(.)com/iphone :) so, good luck for everybody!

  • Anyone try the ringtone maker program iringer? it's free, easy to use, has some effects like fading, volume control, etc. and requires 0 modding or alterations. Itunes picks it up just like a purchased ringtone. Only drawback is that you can only make 30 sec. clips. It works for All Iphone models. I highly recomend everyone try it!!!

  • i am using windows to..how did you change it to m4r

  • You can downolad a free utility that turns mp3's into Iphone ringtones in 10 seconds! It's called Iringer Very easy and nice!!!!

  • Can someone tell me how to use this as a ringtone once its added to my iPhone? My iPhone is still very new and I'm a little clueless.

  • Thanks for this! I just got my iPhone and it still works!

  • I need help.. It goes to the ringtones on my iTunes.. But when I sync it.. It's not on my iPhone.. =(

    Help meeee!

  • ive got the same problem, is this because apple fixed it or does this still work

  • oh and btw while im already asking stuff, can u use any short sound as text message alert? or do u have to use some tone thats already on the phone? cuz i know that i could only use some boring tones on my old samsung-phone and that kinda sucked..

  • This works!!!! very cool!

    thanks!

    jp

  • i don't understand..? i haven't got my iphone yet so.. can you not use any song as a ring tone?? why? you can do that on like all phones that support realtones..?

  • nope. cant use any song, unless you follow the above procedure... and if you use the songs in iTunes that are available as ring tones (bell icon) they will charge you .99.

  • ok..how about listening to music? can you upload any songs in mp3 to the iPhone just like any mp3-player?

  • yes..

  • An iphone has an ipod in it so yeah

  • i got vista. cant change from m4a to m4r????????

  • edit your windows settings to show extensions.

  • Its impossible to patch it dude unless they competly remove aac witch i doubt they will cause itunes company its self needs that in order to make them..

  • if u dont have a mac u cant do it?

  • Hey! I'm using a Mac, and I am able to follow through all of these steps except the part where you copy the file from Finder back to iTunes (either the "Ringtones" playlist or directly to the phone). For some reason, it is not allowing me to do this step. The file type says ringtone so that's not the problem. Any advice?

  • i had the same problem. i went to finder//Add to library (or command O) and chose it. it opened perfectly well.

  • i am also having the same problem

  • just double click on the new file (in finders) and it will automatically play in iTUnes... and there it is!

be sure you change the extension of the duplicate.. not the original. jp

  • Thanks dude very helpfull!

  • dude ur the SHIT :))) thanks again for the trick, i am having a lot of fun now with my new ringtones :)))

  • it works :))))) thanks a lot for the trick.

  • I can't do it on my new macbook pro unit body 15inch dam

  • can u show me how to do it with windows ??

  • vista or xp?

  • thank you :)

  • is there a limit to how long the ring tone can be?

  • no there is no limit but al cell providers have a limit of 30 sec ring on all phone

  • Has to be under 40 seconds

  • Damn you suck you don't even reply to our questions... And how do you make a shorter version of a song?... 1/5.

  • this post is more than a year old an almost 600 people have been asking questions/commenting. It's pretty self-centered to expect somebody to make you a priority above everything else they have to do. And it's pretty rude to tell somebody they suck when they're uploading a video to tell you how to do something you don't know how to do. as for making a shorter version of a song: edit it. I us audacity cuz its free, but something tells me your going to get butt-hurt when you can't figure it out.

  • before you make the AAC version you have to right click on the song, then go to get info, then go to options, then change the stop time.

  • i don't have the option to create AAC version

  • You don't need the Ringtones playlist. Just double-click the file in the Finder and it will automatically go into a special folder called Ringtones, which the iPhone will recognize.

  • i do all the steps but it doesnt show up in my 'ringtones' section :@

  • the important part is to make sure you delete your aac file out of itunes before you try to import your ringtone back into the itunes library. otherwise itunes won't recognize it.

  • Awesome, thanks. Have you seen this video which shows you how to hack those offer sites? It has email proof that it works!

  • I just got my iphone yesterday, it's 3G and my itunes is up to date.

    Thanks for this tip btw!

  • I'm on Windows Vista and it worked for me.

HOWEVER: If when you try and Sync the ringtone at the end, you get message saying "Are you sure you want to sync ringtones? All existing songs, movies...etc....will be removed', then you need to STOP and change your iphone settings to Automatically Sync and not Manually Manage.

  • or u can just drag the ringtone to your iphone if u want to continue manually managing music

  • does it work on windows?

  • OMG I LOVE YOU!

  • what version is ur iphone software??? i assume it worked for you, it didnt for me i think - coz i just installed the new 3.0 software version

  • Stoked that this still works.

  • K I'm just gonna say....Bwana rocks. Thanks so much for this little tip.

  • sweet thx. confusing at first but enjoying everything free.

  • what kind of camera do you use

  • Thanks. it took a while getting used to, but i love my free ringtones.

  • yeah, you can - I just did it on a Macbook, using the latest iTunes (8.2) and with the 3.0 upgrade already installed

  • Does anyone know if you can do this with itunes 8.2....cause i wanna get the 3.0 firmware update

  • Great vid

  • I can't change the extension. Ironically also trying to convert Soul Bossa Nova to ring tone.

  • my itunes in advanced doesnt even look like that

    im tryna figure it out

  • its under preferences > general > import settings

  • GREAT stuff.... I'm gonna try it... fingers crossed!!! ( I've got a huge ringtone library I lease to AT&T / PacBell that hasn't been used on iPhones yet

  • I don't think i would be able to do it because first i live in Canada and i don't think it works here, all my songs are already AAC and i can't chance it to m4r or get it to ringtone

  • I live in Toronto and this worked fine for me. Try it with different tracks maybe?

  • How do you cut the song so it last only 29 seconds? Please help!

  • go into the info for the song and you can set stop time at any point you want. if you want a ringtone it has to be relatively short. but once you convert the file to AAC that file will be as short as you set it too. good luck

  • nice one mate, works well

  • ok i did it but in my iphone how can i put the new ringtone it doesnt appear at settings/sounds?? help please

  • Make sure you sync your ringtone to your iPhone.

  • i did but it doesnt appear

  • can i ask you something? My ringtones wont copy on my iphone. What can i do about it?
