Just imagine how many girls you are going to do with this, "Hey I'll be at your house soon, Just going to fuel my chopper and in 5 min I'm there babe"
The standard XET kit is $41k and the Solar T62-2A1 engine to be purchased off the surplus market can be from $8k to $15k. Assuming you are in the USA you will require a helicopter rating, an add-on in your case which is a minimum of 30 hours of which 20 must be dual. If you combine this with simulator time you should be able to accomplish this in the minimum 30 hour time frame or very close. You could be signed off for solo hover in just a few hours.
The XET is an experimental and it is equipped with a radio and transponder. You will also need a license to fly the XET. If you want to fly licence free in the ultralight category then look the the Mosquito AIR ot the Mosquito XEL models
Note this helicopter has an N number and is registered experimental and therefore has a radio, transponder and licenced pilot. The Mosquito AIR and XEL are the ultralight version (non-turbine) that do not require pilot licence, registration and radio - those two models only fly under Part 103 regulations and their restrictions

@ClaritySWE Yes in most cases, however most small Turbine engines used in these applications are U.S. Surplus Ground power units, and are throw aways, its cheaper to replace engine than to rebuild, I still want one though just to hear that sweet sweet sound of your turbine firing up, Hard ON, and I am an A&P Mechanic I like my Reliable Powerplants. but experimental helicopters are dangerous if you don' t take proper care to keep you Times, and inspect them often, same as any other A/C
The XET is rated for 9000ft HIGE and 7000ft HOGE but as far as a service ceiling there is no published number. The highest known flight (which was in a standard non-turbine XE) was just over 11,000 ft.
Im a ex police chopter pilot from royal malaysia police.can this bird do deck landing on our marin vessel. If possible may be i can propose our department to use this chopter. Its d.o.c is damn cheap!!!!
El problema de vivir es España, es que no puedes pilotar este tipo de helicopteros, sin licencia....todo un acierto de las leyes españolas, como otros tantos, todo cagadas, pronto para ponerse unos patines habremos de sacarnos un permiso especial
Not at all, there are thousands of ultralight aircraft flying within the Part 103 Ultralight category which is license free. Perhaps you are equating "no license" with "no training" which is an entirely different thing and would definitely be dangerous. At ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=ecfr&rgn=div5&view=text&node=14:2.0.1.3.16&idno=14 you will find the full regulations along with the many restrictions placed on this category to keep it safe for all.
Sorry, I had no idea this was 103 legal. I don't think I've ever seen a 103 helo, but then again, more of a fixed wing guy myself. I was more just alluding to the fact that many people could take no license and no training to mean to same thing. It is dangerous enough on a fixed-wing, but on a helicopter ever more so. But as long as training is insisted upon, there shouldn't be any problem.
This particular helicopter in the video, the turbine XET, is not an ultralight but other than the power plant is identical to the two Mosquito ultralight models. The Mosquito AIR and XEL are the two Part 103 ultralight helis and the Mosquito XE, XE3 and XET fall into the experimental category which does require a license.
what kind of fuel does it consume? can you just land on top of Exxon mobile and yell out, "hey can you fill er up with super unleaded? And make it an extra long hose, cause im up here."
Depends on the proportions of your height between legs and torso. There is just over 37" from the seat to the interior top of the cabin so if your torso is within these bounds and the balance of your length is in the legs you'll fit.
You could fit it with a hook for practice and training but the payload capability does not allow for any practical load that would be useful in real situation
Regulations and flight categories vary from country to country and you'll have to check with the aviation authority in the country you are considering. There are Mosquito helicopters already in the UK, France, Italy as well as several eastern EU countries.
Two of the Mosquitos are classified as ultralights (part 103) and the other three models are in the experimental category. The ultralights are license free although you will need training of course. For the experimentals you will need a license and the cost depends whether you follow traditional rotor wing training at a local flight school or if you do the solo portion of your training in your own Mosquito. Costs for standard training are about $13K, in your own heli about $7K
If you expand the description for this video above you will find general pricing descriptions there, if you would like detailed costs and options then email us at info@rotorfx.com and we'll send it back to you.
I live in Canada and I was wondering would I need a pilot license to fly Mosquito XET Turbine? And I noticed that there are other mosquito's that don't have the turbine. Do I need a pilot license for one of those?
Yes, you will need a license to fly any of the Mosquito helicopters in Canada. Unfortunately they do not have a comparable Part 103 Ultralight category which allows you to fly either the Mosquito AIR or Mosquito XEL license free in the USA.
@ROTORFX Okay so what if I was living in MO. You see my family is in Canada but I'm living in MO now going to school what would I have to go through in order to fly one of your helicopters. Also what do you mean by part 103?
Part 103 is the section in the USA FARs (aviation regulations) that refer to ultralight aircraft ( see the link to the 103 regs on the Mosquito Helicopter page on our site rotorfx.com).
If you are anywhere within the USA then "103" regs apply & yes you can fly either of the Mosquito ultralight models. Of course you will need training, see our site for ultralight training classes on the helicopter flight training page
The Mosquito helicopter is a net little sporty helicopter, The cost to own this ship is about what I paid for my Rotorway Exec in 1989. If I didn't all ready have a helicopter, I surely would be looking at the Mosquito.
Yes, what you are describing is our "ReadyBuilt" model. depending on configuration and options it would be between the low $50,000's up to $60,000. Go to our web site at rotorfx.com for details or better yet email us directly for specific information: info@rotorfx.com
Yes and no. For all categories except for Part 103 qualified ultralights you do need a pilot license. The Mosquito AIR and Mosquito XEL are the only production ultralights in existence.
The Mosquito XET has a range of about 100 miles with the standard 12 gallon tank, with the optional 8 gal auxiliary range is extended to 160 miles. Fuel burn is about 8.5 gals per hour. If you are looking for long range then review the specs for the Mosquito XE model on our web site rotorfx[dot]com - it gets about 150 miles on the standard tank and about 250 with the auxiliary added.
Fortunately you don't need 50k to start. You can purchase in segments (5 separate kits) over whatever time period suits your time and budget. Kit #1 is 10K and a 5K deposit will get you in the production que.
For the Mosquito XET the gross weight is 820lbs, empty weight 433 lbs and a useful load of 360lbs. You can see all the specs, performance figures, prices, option and more videos on our web site on the Mosquito Helicopter page at rotorfx [.] com
YES WE CAN, we pack and ship any type of helicopter anywhere in the world by sea or air. Contact us for specifics or see more information on our web site.
XE, XE3 and XET fall under regular aviation regulations. The AIR and XEL are ultralights which operate under the "Part 103" ultralight regs - look for the Part 103 link on the Mosquito Helicopter page on our website for the full text of these rules
Primarily identical, the XEL usually does not have the vertical stabilizer installed but does have the floats (safety equipment) attached to the skids.
The kit (assemble yourself) is $37,000 and the ReadyBuilt version is $46,500. In both these case you need to add $5,000 to $10,000 for the engine (Solar T32-2A1) depending on condition and market price of the engine at the time you purchase it. The Mosquito XET helicopter is an exception, all other Mosquito models are priced including the engine. All details, performance, specs and options are listed on the Mosquito Helicopter page on our web site along with 50 more videos.
Most fly with doors off but if your preference is doors on they are available. On the Mosquito XE, XE3 or the XET turbine they are a practical option. In the case of the Mosquito XEL doors would put it over the allowable weight to qualify as an ultralight in the USA. For other countries without the comparable category, this restiction would not apply.
As a helicopter pilot, I've never even been remotely interested in a kit helicopter--until now. This helicopter is beyond cool. Have there been any catastrophic airframe failures with any of the Mosquito helicopters?
No, no failures, it was designed, built and tested carefully and slowly over an extended period of time. It is becoming so popular it is the only experimental or ultralight helicopter with a plug-in for the X-Plane flight simulator just for those of you who would like to fly it from your desk first.
This helicopter could NOT be used in commercial operations in the US, like pipeline patrol, due solely to the fact that it's an experimental. It's a neat little bird, true enough, and I can think of alot of different times I would have liked to have that kind of flexibility on my pipline patrol routes (chief pilot for a large pipeline patrol company here), but for commercial ops, an experimental is a no go.
Unfortunately if you are employed by a commercial operation you can not use it in that aspect in the US ... BUT if you own the pipeline or ranch or orchard or powerline or fishing boat or railway easement or farm or mine or acreage (and on and on) you may as the owner or as one of the group of owners fly it yourself for use in your own operation (continued ..)
(... continued) and as you noted it is very capable of any of these tasks. In your case an an operator the 4 hour range of the Mosquito XE (with aux tank) and the less than $30 per hour operating costs would have been a tremendous cost saver!
Check with your local helicopter flight school. Rates vary by location and the type of aircraft they train in. Also consider the option of trainin in the US where we typically have the lowest rates worldwide. Our rate sheet is always available on our web site rotorfx . com - select "Helicopter Flight Training". The most important point is - definitely get training somewhere and become a pilot!!!!
Actually you are partially correct. The Mosquito XET helicopter in the video falls in the experimental category and does require a license to fly as do the Mosquito XE and Mosquito XE3 helicopters.
The Mosquito AIR and Mosquito XEL are ultralight helicopters under Part 103 and therefore do not require any license or medical to fly but certainly do require proper training. Ultralights are also exempt from registration (N numbers) as well.
That is correct - in the USA. Under Part 103 regulations two of the five Mosquito helicopter models qualify as untralights - these are the Mosquito AIR and the Mosquito XEL. The other three models fall under the experimental category and do require pilot license.
The fuel capacity on the XET turbine is 12 gallons standard and 20 gallons with the optional auxilliary tank. This will provide about 1.3 hours standard flight time and about 2.2 hours extended. For a complete list of performance and data specifications see the Mosquito Helicopter page on our web site

XE, XE3 and XET fall under regular aviation regulations. The AIR and XEL are ultralights which operate under the "Part 103" ultralight regs - look for the Part 103 link on the Mosquito Helicopter page on our website for the full text of these rules

Fuel is premium automotive pump gas

so what exactly is the difference between the XE and the XEL? besides the whole license thing
usa1327 1 year ago
Primarily identical, the XEL usually does not have the vertical stabilizer installed but does have the floats (safety equipment) attached to the skids.

What is the cost of one of these prebuilt or in a kit?
alaskasex 2 years ago
The kit (assemble yourself) is $37,000 and the ReadyBuilt version is $46,500. In both these case you need to add $5,000 to $10,000 for the engine (Solar T32-2A1) depending on condition and market price of the engine at the time you purchase it. The Mosquito XET helicopter is an exception, all other Mosquito models are priced including the engine. All details, performance, specs and options are listed on the Mosquito Helicopter page on our web site along with 50 more videos.

A few of the guys are over 6' tall, and they say they fit inside ok...... it's close at 6'3", but they still fit.

How tall was the pilot in this video? would someone over 6 feet be comfortable in this helicopter?
Astar600 2 years ago
put guns and rocket launchers on it and make it a little bigger and it is the helicopter from Grand Theft Auto 4

without doors???!
MRshaqrawi 2 years ago
Most fly with doors off but if your preference is doors on they are available. On the Mosquito XE, XE3 or the XET turbine they are a practical option. In the case of the Mosquito XEL doors would put it over the allowable weight to qualify as an ultralight in the USA. For other countries without the comparable category, this restiction would not apply.

As a helicopter pilot, I've never even been remotely interested in a kit helicopter--until now. This helicopter is beyond cool. Have there been any catastrophic airframe failures with any of the Mosquito helicopters?
edmartinelli 2 years ago
No, no failures, it was designed, built and tested carefully and slowly over an extended period of time. It is becoming so popular it is the only experimental or ultralight helicopter with a plug-in for the X-Plane flight simulator just for those of you who would like to fly it from your desk first.
ROTORFX 2 years ago
This helicopter could NOT be used in commercial operations in the US, like pipeline patrol, due solely to the fact that it's an experimental. It's a neat little bird, true enough, and I can think of alot of different times I would have liked to have that kind of flexibility on my pipline patrol routes (chief pilot for a large pipeline patrol company here), but for commercial ops, an experimental is a no go.
agcatdriver 2 years ago
Unfortunately if you are employed by a commercial operation you can not use it in that aspect in the US ... BUT if you own the pipeline or ranch or orchard or powerline or fishing boat or railway easement or farm or mine or acreage (and on and on) you may as the owner or as one of the group of owners fly it yourself for use in your own operation (continued ..)
ROTORFX 2 years ago
(... continued) and as you noted it is very capable of any of these tasks. In your case an an operator the 4 hour range of the Mosquito XE (with aux tank) and the less than $30 per hour operating costs would have been a tremendous cost saver!
ROTORFX 2 years ago
4 HOURS?!??! $30/Hour??... Helicopter????
I think im gonna faint, i would have never thaught a light helicopter could beat a car as viable means of transport.

Do you know off hand how much it cost in Canada to get a licence to fly a Mosquito?
Bomb29 2 years ago
Check with your local helicopter flight school. Rates vary by location and the type of aircraft they train in. Also consider the option of trainin in the US where we typically have the lowest rates worldwide. Our rate sheet is always available on our web site rotorfx . com - select "Helicopter Flight Training". The most important point is - definitely get training somewhere and become a pilot!!!!
ROTORFX 2 years ago
this is the only ultralight helicopter. being an ultralight you do not need to be licenced to fly in the US for the mosquito
derfdiggler15 2 years ago
Actually you are partially correct. The Mosquito XET helicopter in the video falls in the experimental category and does require a license to fly as do the Mosquito XE and Mosquito XE3 helicopters.
The Mosquito AIR and Mosquito XEL are ultralight helicopters under Part 103 and therefore do not require any license or medical to fly but certainly do require proper training. Ultralights are also exempt from registration (N numbers) as well.
ROTORFX 2 years ago
Actually i believe that as long as it is an ultralite, you do not need a pilot's lisense
batojutsu371 2 years ago
That is correct - in the USA. Under Part 103 regulations two of the five Mosquito helicopter models qualify as untralights - these are the Mosquito AIR and the Mosquito XEL. The other three models fall under the experimental category and do require pilot license.

Can you fly these in Canada?
Bomb29 2 years ago
Yes, you can fly these in Canada and there are already several there.
ROTORFX 2 years ago
The fuel capacity on the XET turbine is 12 gallons standard and 20 gallons with the optional auxilliary tank. This will provide about 1.3 hours standard flight time and about 2.2 hours extended. For a complete list of performance and data specifications see the Mosquito Helicopter page on our web site
