This breaks my heart. I am Indonesian and I can assure you, Indonesia is NOT a poor country. We have the biggest oil and gold reserve in the world, we are also the "lung" of the earth with our tropical forest, only that the government is corrupt and all they care is about making money and power for themselves. I find the excessive clearing of those forest. To be more upsetting than the death of that one tiger. I've been against the use of traps for a number of years. Having nearly stepped in a few myself. One of my friends also was badly injured in one of those hidden traps. It is a cowardly act which results in the injury of Animals and other humans. Its not even intelligent from a sellers standpoint. Though, I'm against selling of wild cats. Damaging there catch lowers the value.
i think humans must intervene...lets be honest tiger areas are densely populated....some siberian tigers should be transported to northern america where they will certainly flourish and be visible and safe...bengals can be transshifted to africa ....it may not save them but will certainly postpone the extinction by a few centuries

They need people like the Sea Shepherds,who use non-lethal tactics to try to scare poachers into retreating from the area where the animals are. If they had people like them protecting wildlife like the Sumatran Tiger,they might be able to save more tigers.

Stronger regulations on the harvesting of trees is what needs to happen in that area. Ideally trees should not be harvested at a speed. Exceeding how long it takes for them to grow. Stronger hunting regulations in that area also are needed.

I've seen Sumatran tigers up close at Paignton Zoo. Even for tigers they are extremely beautiful animals. To allow these creatures to disappear from the wild forever would be a crime indeed.

There's a "take a picture with a tiger" place in Myrtle Beach, SC but I don't know the name of it... They have a reserve that you can go to to see the tigers, but I haven't done that. They say they are preserving golden tabby tigers, and have a ton of them. They had an adult and many babies, as well as Bengal tiger adults and babies. Does anyone know if they are truly preserving the species or making money? Or what's your opinion?
@chikabirdy Yeah, as far as I know they are really preserving the species. They have an apprenticeship program to work with big cats at their reserve that I have checked out, but I've never been to the actual reserve.

@Medusa0999 Well, we have to take care of the problem of deforestation and human encroachment first before we can introduce some animals back into the wild, or the introduced animals will suffer the same fate as the original wild animals in the area. Also, there are problems with the government allowing animal introductions and just the fact that captive born animals don't have the developed and learned skills to survive, Instinct isn't enough.
@Medusa0999 BCR rescues cats from some horrible places, and from people who simply can't keep their cats anymore. They give the cats a second chance at life, and give them the opportunity to live in a somewhat natural environment. Raising a tiger to release into the wild is extremely difficult, you have to raise the cub away from its mother (Because she doesn't have any skills herself). Teach it all the skills to survive, only to release it where it's habitat is diminishing.
@Medusa0999 In the case of Sumatran tigers, it would be like going back to Chernobyl right after the nuclear incident. Theres nothing left for them but certain death. In the case of their other animals, most were kept as pets and wouldn't last one day in the wild, so they just let them live their days in peace at the rescue sanctuary.

@TheMutedVid The tiger had been caught in a trap set for wild boar, the tiger was trapped in the snare for a week in pain. Local conservation offices arrived, tranquilized the tiger in hopes of removing the trap but unfortunately the tiger died before they could help.

I've seen Sumatran tigers up close at Paignton Zoo. Even for tigers they are extremely beautiful animals. To allow these creatures to disappear from the wild forever would be a crime indeed.

Thanks now I can't sleep. The thing these animals go through especially those pet a tiger cub. I swear if I see a tiger or lion cub being treated like that... Someone is going to the hospital.

With the increasing human population tigers in the wild WILL be extinct.
I predict in 300 to 500 years all wild carnivores over 50 pounds and all Herbivores over 150 pound will be extinct. If nature (or ourselves) intervenes, then there is more time.
If not, we will end up destroying our selves soon after.
It's tragic, and this is coming from a deer hunter who loves cougars and wolves. I really respect wild carnivores. We need them more then they need us =(

All those countries- India, Indonesia, China, Bhutan etc.- are the most valuable areas for tigers, other animals and for rain forests. But THEY ARE ALSO THE POOREST!
Until there's no real substantial plan that will change the lifestyle and thinking patterns of the people there- Nature Doesn't Stand a Chance!!
All these little attempts aren't gonna work. It's like trying to block a crack in a dam with your finger. But keep doing what you're doing. For at least it's something... :(

I would be surprised if there are ANY of these lovely incredibly powerful creatures left, BIG CATS tigers in particular left in 20 years. The indigenous people of these rain forest areas live in HARMONY with the WILDLIFE, we could learn a great many LESSONS from them! Just SAD and most of all UNNECESSARY! last year in the 7th grade, my teacher made us do a science project over the different problems in the world. I did mine on the endangerment of the tigers. I was shocked and saddened about how many species of tigers there are in the world and I was also very disgusted about how these beautiful creatures were being poached for their fur and body parts. I hope that someday I would be able to speak out and stop these barbaric actions. rip beautiful tiger T-T

@118scarface If we preserve habitat for wild tigers their population will increase, but if we fail to do this they are in serious trouble. There are no breeding programs that release captive born tigers into the wild.

@PET3RRULEZ Tigers adapted to this world over thousands of years, releasing a captive bred tiger into the wild isn't done and it isn't done because it would not work. What we need to do is preserve habitat for the existing tigers in the wild, if we do this they will breed and recover fine, if we cannot do this we are in trouble and so are they :(

There's a "take a picture with a tiger" place in Myrtle Beach, SC but I don't know the name of it... They have a reserve that you can go to to see the tigers, but I haven't done that. They say they are preserving golden tabby tigers, and have a ton of them. They had an adult and many babies, as well as Bengal tiger adults and babies. Does anyone know if they are truly preserving the species or making money? Or what's your opinion?

@chikabirdy Yeah, as far as I know they are really preserving the species. They have an apprenticeship program to work with big cats at their reserve that I have checked out, but I've never been to the actual reserve.

It's so sickening to see these types of things happening.. Tigers are my favorite animal and every time I see or hear things like this it's just so saddening. It's saddening for any animal or species that has to go through this.
I'm only 16 but I hope in the future that I can do something worthwhile and help animals in need. Knowing that I can save an animals future or an entire species would be the greatest feeling.

@somedevil6868 Who knows why people are the way they are. I'm sure much is how they are raised. They probably feel that nobody values them, so they feel they should do the same to something else.
Maybe some people get pleasure from others pain, and others get pleasure from good. Sadists vs. the benevolent, or good vs. evil. Some people are raised poorly. Most people who are dumb usually have dumb or confused animals. So, I think nurture is dominant.

I have a question (answer if you want). Why aren't places like zoos and to an extent, Big cat rescue, trying to send captive born big cats back into the wild. Joy and George Adamson managed it, so why isn't anywhere else doing it?

@Medusa0999 Well, we have to take care of the problem of deforestation and human encroachment first before we can introduce some animals back into the wild, or the introduced animals will suffer the same fate as the original wild animals in the area. Also, there are problems with the government allowing animal introductions and just the fact that captive born animals don't have the developed and learned skills to survive, Instinct isn't enough.

@Medusa0999 BCR rescues cats from some horrible places, and from people who simply can't keep their cats anymore. They give the cats a second chance at life, and give them the opportunity to live in a somewhat natural environment. Raising a tiger to release into the wild is extremely difficult, you have to raise the cub away from its mother (Because she doesn't have any skills herself). Teach it all the skills to survive, only to release it where it's habitat is diminishing.

@Medusa0999 In the case of Sumatran tigers, it would be like going back to Chernobyl right after the nuclear incident. Theres nothing left for them but certain death. In the case of their other animals, most were kept as pets and wouldn't last one day in the wild, so they just let them live their days in peace at the rescue sanctuary.

@TheMutedVid The tiger had been caught in a trap set for wild boar, the tiger was trapped in the snare for a week in pain. Local conservation offices arrived, tranquilized the tiger in hopes of removing the trap but unfortunately the tiger died before they could help.
