Its so wild that you describe the cliff edge off the end of the casino. I grew up in Neptune as well in the same years as you. We used to go out on the casino, sit on the same edge and smoke our Ciggarettes and tell stories of the surf from that day. We would sometimes explore the decrepid remains of the old ice skating rink within the building. I relate so well with you regarding this, I have fond memories of this place that I will never forget.....
I live in Neptune Township and go to Asbury Park all the time. It seems like they gave the beach to the yuppies and the rest of the town west of Grand Ave the redevelopers don't care about (you can see the maps they have in their conference room that has glass windows facing the beach side). Hopefully places like the new pinball museum arcade at Holdfast Records or other stores will stay there long term.
I love the way Nicole Atkins looks at Neptune City and the sence of pride she has for a decrepid old decaying city....It reminds me alot of the way Ian Curtis wrote about Manchester, and the way I feel about where I live in Buffalo NY..I wanna marry Nicole (but who doesnt)
Would die happy if i could drink beers and play guitar with Nicole on the edge of that cliff...amazing artist, beautiful woman, hope she comes to Ireland soon
Excellent, I'm waiting for her to come to Ireland too. I've never actually heard of another Irish Nicole Atkins fan before you. Keep up the good work!
I go to Neptune every weekend to hang with friends, it is pretty nice there by the shore. I thought that Casino was more part of Ocean Grove than Neptune City though.
you know... it's funny that the the river she is standing in is the same river they found 3 dead bodies in... if you don't believe me... look it up...
No future for her? I haven't listened to her, but I have a feeling you mean she wont be the next Beatles with all her songs in the movies selling out the biggest venues. If you think that's the only thing a "future" can be considered than I pity you for your narrow-mindedness and inability to grasp the pride in being independent and loving what you do for the sake of doing it.
Nicole. You are rad. I'm confused about your credit card commercial. You do realize those companies prey on humanity in a vile way? Use the money for something positive! Much Love!
Sadly, I don't see much of a future for her. I may be wrong, and I hope I am. She is just not getting decent representation from her agency ("Nicole who?"). But I'm proud of her. Stones in 66, Doors in 68, Zeppelin in 69. And me, a little kid, learning the guitar about a mile and half away on 5th avenue and Hawthorne. Don't remember much of that area because we moved in 70. Would be nice to jam some tunes with her along shark river. The generation gap wouldn't be a problem, I don't think.
