the cop at the end of the video maade me die laughing. "you know i really hate you doing that, because, you know, this is like ,my life and just because i have a job i dont see why i have to let you take my picture. I'd like to know where you live so i can come park in front of your house and take pictures of you. how would that feel."
I'm a huge Phil Ochs fan, and I'll tell you, this is an excellent update. You should try out on American Idol and sing this whole song, lol. If they tell you to stop, just keep going, lol.
Hey Blakeivey, thanks for posting this, I edited this back in fall of 2003. footage was shot by a variety of indymedia videographers (mostly from Portland) as well as lots of found footage. The performance is by Ryan Harvey, an update of a Phil Ochs song. Ryan was playing at the BioDev mobilization in Sacramento, summer of 03 and I thought the song would be great to put video to.
I saw this a couple years ago and was shocked. Do i like the place i live? Yep, always will. But i don't get all paranoid about it. Save the "your blinded just by rest of the Sheep in their red and blue Revolution marching to the drums of evil" stuff. I don't worry too much about it, whatever happens happens, i'm sure no one else echoes my opinion, but i'm 3rd generation DGAF
i gave you a thumbs up Pete. you know why? not because i agree with you, but because i believe you should be able to say it without being censored. both republicans and dems believe in censorship in one form or another, repubs with phones, online and free speech in general, and dems with their pc crap so we won't offend anyone. i say free speech all the way, fuck the politics.
Phil Ochs would be very proud of this updated rendition of his classic song. After seeing the video of The Dixie Chicks selling out by singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" before a baseball game, I would love to see someone who is asked to sing the national anthem get up to the microphone and sing this. (I'm not big on praying to pieces of cloth, but I would cheer this on gladly.) I don't anticipate any singer doing this, though--to do such a thing requires courage and a spine.
Great updated version of the song, well done! Also, I like how the cop at the end of the video gets annoyed with being filmed as he says, "I'd like to know where you live so I can come to your house and take pictures of you" and I was thinking to myself...fat bastards, you all already do. They tap our phones, read our mail and spy on us with satellite, but when we point camcorders at them it's a major crime or violation, fucking unreal!
This isn't Phil Ochs.

We own half the world, oh say can you see
The name for our profits is democracy
So, like it or not, you will have to be free
'Cause we're the Cops of the World, boys
We're the Cops of the World.

Great song. I like the way Harvey changed the lyrics to reflect current events.
End war and its underlying cause, capitalism!
