my great grandmother is Bavarian and she drank a liter of beer with every meal and she wasn't a drunk or even wasted at all and she lived to the age of 96 and consumed this way for years... part of it is cultural... the puritan ideal in the USA is part of the problem... after a few years in Germany as a kid when I could order a beer with meals, I developed a different drinking attitude but being fed BS about being drunk and evil until after 21 years old... is part of the problem...
