This trap kinda sucks.

First of all, 50% of the time the drop is still falling around in the room and second, the spiders usually try to climb against the walls, resulting in slow kills

I tweaked this set up, the kill area is the same, two stone pillars 3 high and two cactus 3 high. I added water flows where I saw fit, and it worked like a charm. I collected a chest full of skill stacks while AFK over night. The best spider trap I have tried so far. Thanks for the vid.

Got done building this to the exact specs shown and... I had web everywhere, only about 1 in 4 actually fell to me. Also, I can't jump out of the water. I have to break a block and then jump out. I have no idea why that specific current won't let me out.

I proclaim this tutorial a total fail. Clever idea, the spiders will all die, but it just doesn't work for collecting string.

Wrong. Spiders survive in light, but they will not spawn in light. I'm playing right now and have a spider spawner surrounded with torches. Not one spider has spawned since the room was lit.

Also, string is not useless if you like decorating with colored wool. 9 pieces of string spread on the crafting table gives a wool block. Yeah, running around and hitting sheep is fine, but a well-made spider trap will allow you to leave the game running and continue collecting string.

@paate1 Cartographer can take a picture of your Minecraft world so you have a map of it... You can also set it to take a picture of only a certain block type (you can find out which type on minepedia). If you picture Mossy Cobblestone you'll find all your dungeons in your generated world (obviously not further than that as outside is not generated unless you travel out) :3
