Hehe~ I just feed mine brine shrimp. ^_^ You can get a case of over a million little eggs for less than four dollars, and make a mini hatchery for brine shrimp for under fifteen dollars. (Salt, Pop bottle, Air pump, bubble stone and tubing)
I just drop a spoon full of brine shrimp into my betta's tank, and he gobbles them up. The little gormet is now refusing to eat pellets again, so I guess I have to keep hatching shrimp. hahah.
@dulljoker1 eBay or a fish store, You need a hatchery, you can make your own from coke bottles, air pump and plastic tubing. They stink but my fish love them and seem healthier.
your tanks are WAY to small! Bettas need alot morse room than you think. They need room to SWIM! Its like you living in your bathroom your whole life, you need room, and so do your fish
@reininghorses57 beta's don't really. and he might breed them, so he keeps them in a small tank when they are fertilised, or just seperates them to feed them.
If you dont use all the bloodworms then what do you do with them? freeze them again for later? or throw them away? (cause i just got a betta yesterday and I have 4 different types of food and i'm not sure what he likes to eat...) I have freeze dried bloodworms but he doesnt like that as well as brine shrimp (which he eats sometimes...) is the frozen food better? (somebody please answer? or no...???)
@BlackOrder0208 Flakes or pellots should be his main diet, and you should only use bloodworms and shrimp as a treat. How big is your tank? I sudjest flakes, because it is the easyest for them to eat. Good luck, and have fun with your fishy friend! :)
@reininghorses57 I have a 10 gallon tank for my one betta. I feed him through a hole in a log that floats at the top. (he knows to go there when i show him the container where his food is kept) flakes? i heard that they don't like to eat that.. sometimes....
@BlackOrder0208 My 3 bettas LOVE the flakes! I feed them bloodworms as a treat, but they shouldnt be there nain diet because they dont have enoygh protien and nutricinal value. I recomened Topfin fish food, with colour booster. Try it out, and see if he will eat it.
Yummy~ I usually put my Bettas in a 2.5 gal fish tank, but I don't see any reason why they should have a bigger tank. as long as the owners keep the water changed and clean the bettas should be fine. Bettas are more than accustomed to shallow acidic waters, and are even capable of withstanding the stress of flopping from smaller water puddles to larger ones where they come from. The thing is, I can see where having a small container would make more sense because Bettas are a solitary fish.
what do you do with unfinished bloodworms ? lol mines also turn black and stinky once i put back in the freezer and have to throw it away and open new one >.> waste .
@blubblub959 yeah you could live in a box if you were forced to also.. just because he can doesnt mean he should.. you need a bigger tank asian. Being asian i would think youd already know about these fish
@FitRider420 yea, and if u knew, im not asian :P also thats what the people at pet co said, so they can, also im not saying they should live in small places, im just saying then can

hey uhm.. if the fish wont eat any more of the frozen blood worms do i just chuck it away, or do u slice the cubes up before you feed them, if you slice the cubes up, how do u do it?, its too hard for me to cut it up
@ULiRD I use chopsticks to feed my fish and move around objects in the tank, and I'm not asian. They're a great tool for an aquarium if a you know how to use them.
when i do that to my betta to try to feed him red stuff, he flares and attacks anything i feed/put near the tank that is red. is there any way i can stop this? If so, how?
@VanillaPolkaDot Im positive its for them... all he does is take a bit then spit it back out. ive only seen him do it once tho. Ive seen him go up for air and spit out bubbles tho
@imtherealcolt Well the most common causes for loss of appetite are dirty water, stress, low temperature, and infection. Or, maybe he could be a picky eater. I give my betta Hikari Betta Bio-Gold pellets and he loves them. When he goes up its usually because he making a bubble nest. Its normal for bettas to do that.

If they are freeze dried they last like 1-2 years. You feed 1-2 sometimes, and, if leftovers, throw them away.
TheRafield 5 months ago
@BlackOrder0208 Well, I don't usually feed freeze-dried food (I read somewhere that it's fattening or something..?)
I'd say frozen is better, but after it's thawed, it begins to rot.
He could have been sick, but betta are picky, and sometimes they do what your betta was doing: "testing" the different food choices.
