@snowyseb there is an industrial chemical supply near my house, they sell thermite, pre mixed. about 5 to 8 dollars a pound (it changes) but you have to have "an industrial use permit" to buy it, but aluminum powder is about 4.50 (again it changes) and they dont sell rust (iron oxide) but if you go to a break shop, or machine shop, you can get (for free) iron shavings, and just let them sit. also you can get a railroad spike, a jar, and a transformer. fill the jar with salt water, plug in the
@montey1017 transformer, put both wires in the water, and connect the end that bubbles to the spike, and let the other side sit. leave overnite. scrape the rust off the spike.
hmmmm plaster powder? does it mean... just normal plasters or that thing,,, like just take a plaster and then ... how to i get plaster powder?! plz reply
Drywall/sheetrock "mud" is basically the same thing, calcium sulfate. You can technically just use strips of aluminum foil and drywall finishing compound, although the reaction won't be as vigerous.
In Plaster theres no Titanium. Theres just Calcium, Sulfur and Oxigen - when it is the anhydride. The powder I used had some crystal water as well. so theres Hydrogen in the molecule, too.
Unless it's a nuclear reaction there isn't going to be an element created. Unless titanium is used in the reaction there will be no titanium by product. This is a chemical reaction, not a nuclear one (obviously).
Would you be willing to post a how to video with measurements and a step by step process on how to do this? After all this is cool as hell, but i want to make sure I buy the correct ingredients and have them proportioned correctly.
CaCO3 and other carbonates work as oxidizers. Glutamates, citrates, nitrites, phosphates, gluconates, cucrates, stearate - many of these compounds can be used with a strong reducer such as magnesium.
It can work with "homebrew" aluminum powder or even larger chips up to 1mm grain size. But igniting a mixture of chips only will often fail. use a mixture of fine aluminum powder with plaster to ignite mixtures with lager aluminum chippings.
U can (so to say) fade it over to the other mixture. Dont create any zoned laminations in the setup. The reaction will stop without burning the larger chips.
get a unique mixture. Therefor as pigment color-powders are used as well as liquid pigments. U should also be able to contact any manufacturer of paints. And last but not least ebay...
so is it plaster of paris

@DeViL12351
yap :)
desinfector 5 months ago
Its calciumsulfate (semihydrate)
I put this up to show that it's not necessary to heat the plaster up to get rid of crystal water.
but ...yup carbonate will do it as well but not that hot.

Yup, its nearly hot like that, but its rather Thermate than thermite (no iron oxide reaction)

is there any place u could get small amounts of aluminum powder?
snowyseb 2 years ago
dunno for down under, but in Germany in several online-shops.
even in a local shop for paints (a private owner, not a huge company) can order it for You here.
I think it should b the same in Your country.
If not, You can still create your own powder by filing it from a larger piece of Al.

I just mixed aluminum powder with plaster powder
(simple plaster used for filling spaces between drywall panels or treating a broken bone)
ignite with a toy sparkler, thats it.
desinfector 2 years ago
hay you said it was hard to ignite it.
is it possible to use the DIY pull ring grenade method to make this?
Naturepheonix 2 years ago
jup, if you can ignite electrc sparklers with that method, why not?
my suggestion for this is:
get this grey substance of sparklers powdered and mix it to the heads of matches.
But I havent tried it yet

oh thanks :)
Naturepheonix 2 years ago
What type of plaster powder did you use? Plaster of Paris? Lime Plaster? Cement Plaster?
BerkinGG 2 years ago
White plaster of Paris.
Dont use and other mixtures with sand, cement
or so things like that

paris plaster ?
you mean CaSO4?
=O
amazing video

not just CaSO4.
This is CaSO4*0.5H2O here
Its the semihydrate.

ohh! of course
i made a proyect about CaSO4 production at school..i guess i forgot it

i have 1 kg of 250 mesh aluminum powder that i got on ebay. i tried to use it in thermite but it didnt work.
Does anybody know of anything cool to do with aluminum powder?
cathal6606 2 years ago
My powder was 63 µm
U can ignite your stuff eg with electric sparklers.

hmm interesting i guess calcium sulfate does give off oxygen- and this reaction is as energetic as thermite
8Al(s) + 3CaSO4(s) = 4Al2O3(s) + 3CaS(s) + 3850.12kJ
maxyevs 3 years ago
umm yes i didnt know the "energetic output", thx for calculating.
Indeed it becomes veeery hot and in a cold night (e.g. new years eve) u can feel the heat when beeing 5 mtrs away.
Ive made some other vids where im explaining how to mix it.

Do U know the white Plaster to be used for
repairing a hole in a wall or for mounting a
mains socket or switch?
I took this type of plaster (this is already a fine powder)
Its usually the cheapest plaster U can get in any hardware store.
Pure Plaster and no (!) ready
mixture, eg. with additives against shrinking.
U can mix this with aluminum and U'll have a flare...
have phun!

Haha. nice.
unless your serious...dear god
TopGunMan 3 years ago
Im serious.
There was an article in popular science. It was a 5 minute project, Aluminum Powder and Plaster Powder, to make titanium.
PostTheMissing 3 years ago
no i read that article too. It was Titanium dioxide and aluminum reaction. Not iron oxide and aluminum...
TopGunMan 3 years ago
woops i mean aluminum and plaster
TopGunMan 3 years ago
No, this article u have read must be a fake.
In Plaster theres no Titanium. Theres just Calcium, Sulfur and Oxigen - when it is the anhydride. The powder I used had some crystal water as well. so theres Hydrogen in the molecule, too.

Yes thats what u need.
Plaster (some say gypsum) CaSO4 * 1/2 H2O

Look@ "more Videos from desinfector"
There u will find my new "Thermite" Video.
Here U can see how
simple it is to set up the Mixture. No special
tools e.g. for mixing needed. OK, the ingredients have been
scaled before, but this was just to shorten
the Video. I got messages asking me this beeing a fake or not.
Well, I can tell U (and everyone elso out there):
This is no fake.
desinfector 3 years ago
hmm will it work with KNO3?
hokalol 3 years ago
Sure. But ull have a single big flash then.
desinfector 3 years ago
thats exactly what i wanted to know. Thanks! Know of any other easy to obtain oxidizers?
TopGunMan 3 years ago
mayb CaCO3, but i didnt use it yet.
plaster is already delivered as a fine powder and it works well. So i dont look for other stuff.
desinfector 3 years ago
CaCO3 and other carbonates work as oxidizers. Glutamates, citrates, nitrites, phosphates, gluconates, cucrates, stearate - many of these compounds can be used with a strong reducer such as magnesium.
pyromodder 3 years ago
wait... plaster poweder is an oxydizer???? how!?
TopGunMan 3 years ago
Ca-S-O4
see the O4?
Aluminum takes any oxygen it can get.
And... try this using Magnesium. ull be amazed!
of course this "oxidizer" cannot ba compared to nitrates or chlorates, but it works.
desinfector 3 years ago
it's stronger than nitrates at a high tempature. If you se the right ratios this will burn up in a bright flash instead of a flare.
MDHmodder 3 years ago
do u mean THAT if i crush up a plaster board i can use that ?
rhyslightning69 3 years ago
"fresh" plaster powder is cheap enough...
:-D
desinfector 3 years ago
wow, i didn't now that plaster could react with anything, it seems like such a dull substance.
AlexiLaiho227 3 years ago
YES...
Tee the Formula of plaster, 4 times Oxygen in
the sulfate. So Aluminum can react with it as
well.
The smaller the grain size of alu, the better
the reaction runs through. Here I had some 63µm grain size of Aluminum.
And heating up the plaster in order to get rid
of the hydrate in the molecule, the reaction
is even more intense.
Residual stuff left by this reaction smells a bit like rotten eggs (H2S), but not too strong.
desinfector 3 years ago
Heres the formula of it:
204 grams of plaster
108 grams of Aluminum powder
or
102 plaster
54 aluminum
... and so on.
U can use it as a starter for thermite-like
reactions if u have any trouble to ignite.
desinfector 3 years ago
is this the same heat as the other thermite or less? thanks
halflifeh 3 years ago
Well I cant measure it...
I have no pyrometer or so.
But yes its still some heat U can feel when beeing 5 meters away.
desinfector 3 years ago
Will this work if i use home made aluminum powder, and what is the mix ratio?
burnthehypocrytes 3 years ago

so where do you get aluminum powder?
chr1s510 3 years ago
U can get alu powder in stores carrying paints.
Some shops offer a mixing service where u can
get a unique mixture. Therefor as pigment color-powders are used as well as liquid pigments. U should also be able to contact any manufacturer of paints. And last but not least ebay...

This is not really suitable for rocket-fuel.
To boost a rocket the exhausts have to be
gaseous media. Here the state of matter is
solid. That means that just dust and smoke is created
by this reaction. The stuff does not expand like
real rocket-fuel.

can you use this as a rocket fuel??
quick-setting gypsum plaster consisting of a
fine, white powder,
calcium sulfate hemihydrate, CaSO4 * 1/2 H2O
which hardens when moistened and allowed to
dry. Plaster of paris is prepared by heating
calcium sulfate dihydrate, or gypsum, to
120°--180° C (248°--356° F). With an additive to
retard the set, it is called wall, or
hard-wall, plaster.
So I mean the simpliest plaster e.G. to mount a wall socket into a brick-wall.

wait, plaster of paris???
i got a shitload of that in the closet =)

Use aluminum (here 63µm grain size) and plaster.
U'll save a shitload of money on pyrotechnics!!!
No fake. No special oxidizers
like nitrates or chlorates!!!
+++ No forbidden stuff! +++
Plaster will always be available at your drug store or home-depot.
Dont look into it directly. It's realy damn brite!
