I'm pretty sure the French conquered England in the 1th century, we were independent until the end of the 13th century before the French conquered us. Also we briefly regained our independence in the 15th century and then Wales conquered England in the form of the Tudors. so England has been ruled by French and Welsh but not English in the last millennium. Think about it, the aristocracy of England were French not English.
