This song is about Rammsteins career. Interpreting language,"The sowing was good, but the land was not fertile" relates to how they were able form but the industry was not used to their music so they had to beg producers and radio stations to get out there."The children rising and singing aloud where he sown himself" relates to the fanbase that grew & "where my heart stands in dead soil" is how they will always remain loyal to their fans. idk bout a farewell song but its a thank you to fans
@rammstein474 I agree. But I sometimes wonder why Rammstein released the songs, which were leftovers from albums. (Like all songs from Rosenrot, they didn't make it for Reise Reise album..)
@rammstein474 Oh yes! Rosenrot is a very good album, no doubt about it! It is cool in a way, that they do release the songs, which were actually demo's from Reise Reise. But like Ein Leid for example, is the rough demo version from Nebel. So it's old. Same for Mein Land. Till wrote it on the beach, like 6 years ago... Bit of shame it comes so late then..
Consider your minds people! That's not a farewell song. It's obviously about an abortion or a miscarriage. Oh and rammstein SAID THEY ARE NOT BREAKING UP. They'll just have a break and then back to studio! Just watch mein land making of :)
Just a tip for everyone that thinks the band are splitting - watch the newly released video for "Making of Mein Land". I just watched it myself... Till, Richard and Schneider all completely laugh off every suggestion of breaking up. In fact, Schneider especially says they take the breaks to let new ideas to develop before hitting the studio (which they plan to do again). So all is not lost :)
This song was discussed back in Rosenrot/Reise Reise years, so no this is not a farewell song. The song is about a man and a woman who cannot have children.
I totally love this song I think it's do much better than mein land, but rammstein is the best anyway. I hope they won't quit! I also have some points why it's possible that they don't. First thing is it was so often said that they will quit after this album and it never happened I know they won't do this forever but the album title is made in Germany 1995-2011 so I think it's like "so far" so I hope they won't quit in near future but we all just don't know and have to wait. Hey, UltimatePunisher. You should comment on another person's comment so that dickbag ErofeevRoman isn't the first thing people see when they look down here.
it make me cry because it reminded me of a child my ex and I lost in march... I know it's about the band quitting but I felt it that way, I couldn't avoid crying when I heard and read in the translation "do not forget us.. do you remember.. in march?"
This song made me ball my eyes out, Rammstein I think are by far the most poetic band around, there are bands that come close like Dir en grey but Till's vocals and writing is so powerful, and the Instrumental is so depressing but suits the song perfectly, Oh Till and Richard, what I would give to have a 5 minute conversation with you both, I hope they do one more album before they retire
This song is about child abuse. "Der Vater hat das Feld bestellt" meaning: he fucked his own kids. "Vergiss uns nicht" meaning: Vergiss nicht, woher dein Schmerz kommt (= don't forget, where your pain comes from).
@subterrabln I dont think that this song is about child abuse. The first verse is about two people having sex and creating children. "Doch der Boden nicht fruchtbar war" tells that these children couldnt stay where they were born. "Lendengitter" and "schoß" are both terms for home. But after setteling down somewhere they realise that they are not welcome "Wo ich mich selber ausgesäät
Mein Herz in toter Erde steht". So this song is rather about migration than child abuse.
Also, a lot of people are saying this is about miscarriage, or infertility, which I can agree to. But I also think it's about Rammstein's end. Someone said on a website that everything is pointing to that. The name of the album, title of the song, and the lyrics, especially "Weißt du noch, im März…?" or "Do you remember March?". They made their first album March of 1995. I hope I'm wrong but it just seems like another possibility. Which also explains my broken-hearted feeling. :(
@EmSoSpiffy - While Rammstein have to end somewhere (lets face it, they can't go on forever) they are still firing on all cylinders. I'm not saying they won't finish but likewise they are still releasing videos and still Touring and there has NEVER been an official mention of a farewell album or tour either. Talk of them finishing is possible, of course, but still I regard it as a little premature. They would be mad to finish now given their ever-increasing popularity across the world.
@EmSoSpiffy I hope you're not right, but I must say, I also thought about this. First they said they would take another break after the LIFAD-tour, but then suddenly they announced a best of tour. And now this song. It would not be the first time they thought about stopping. But you know, Rammstein is never been predictable. So we'll just have to wait and see.
@sushi998 - I suppose the biggest worry is that after the Made In Germany Tour is over they have literally tidied up their last 16 years hard work into one neat little package. All 6 studio albums are done, toured for and summarized (so to speak) into a Greatest Hits package, which was also toured for. It represents two things from here - a clean, fresh start with a new album or they finish for good as they call it to a halt. Hopefully the former proves to be true...
