You pepole need to understand Elmo can be pretty entertaining when he does'nt have to deal with Sesame Workshop. Have you seen the interviews he does on talk shows? If not, you should watch them on YouTube.
Yeah, because he was originally played much more genuine---like a real little kid acts. He was supposed to be the little tagalong who's always asking questions and won't shut up, not realizing what a pest he's being. It was very true to life and very cute.
But somewhere along the way Clash's portrayal lost that quality and became kind of artificial, IMO. It's partly the material, too---Elmo's role and function nowadays is very different--but at heart it's Clash.

Elmo was annyoing from 1969 onwards to 2003. He became more popular 2003-Present since he got his own show Elmo's world.

The Elmo I grew up with is definitely easier to watch--he didn't always have the diva complex that he developed in the mid-90s and later.

Yeah but here's the funny thing.
The character originaly was suppost to be a pain in the neck to the other characters, who just wanted him away.
Now his a pain in the neck to the audience.
So not as enjoyable.
It's like humor. It's funny for a character to annoy another character, but it isn't funny for someone to annoy you.
