Ok Remy you tried German candy, now try Mexican. Try some Pulparindo. I can send you some if you want. If your parents aren't comfortable giving out your address, it can be found on ebay for not too much money. The Mexicans here in Florida love it. I like it a lot myself, but I think most Americans don't. I'm just weird. I bet I'd like the salt licorice too. In fact I'm going to order some.
I'm Norwegian, and it's so weird to me to think that salty liquorice (or salmiak) is unknown or disliked so many places. It's very common here, and I love it. If you can get them, you should try a couple of candies from around here, like Toms Heksehyl (heksehyl means witch shriek), and Fazer Tyrkisk Pepper (turkish pepper). Malaco also has a new line of deluxe liquorice and salmiak candy called Must. Must Dark Shots are absolutely delicious. Maybe I could send you some of these sometime.
This was a funny ep, because for me as a Dutchie, salty licorice is part of my staple diet ;) These salty herrings are one of my favorites! Did you know there's even triple salt licorice? Very yummy. I managed to convince my Australian family that this stuff actually tastes good, lol. Good on you for being such a brave kid and tasting all these weird and wonderful things!
@EzzieNL thank yoU! i didnt know there was triple salt!! i think i might like that! before i tried salty licrorice i didnt even know it existed:) now i think i have to have moreL)
Haha so I definitely just stumbled on your video here from another site and for whatever reason..I can't stop watching..You're one brave man! Definitely living a more interesting and adventurous culinary life than many
@batmanflo thank you!! it is a crazy hobby i started doing and it got to be mroe and more fun the more i do it. the more things i eat i find like 1 new food i like for every 2 things i try:D
Soo good! you very correct when you say that it is mostly the people in the germanic culture that enjoy salty licorice. I live in Sweden but go to america every other year (in fact I was in the UP of Michigan right around 4th of July this year!). I allways bring some salty licorice with me to spread the gospel (and to se americans reactions when tasting it).
hey that is awe some!! we were not far apart on 4th of july! since beaver island is close to the UP of michigan:) do american usually like it or hate salty licorice?
you seem Canadian you probably are the way you say Independence Day eh anyway you probably ate this but have you ever ate claim chowder? If you can i think some spider's are edible
summer has been awesome!but a lot of things i wanted to do i havent done yet like going to cedar point. i hope i get the chance school starts in a month! it is almost over!
I really like the look of Beaver Island. Looks like the kind of place that the 21st century hasn't quite caught up with yet.
3:30-3:50 - wasn't that bit of hair sticking into your eye really annoying you? It would have done me - it was bugging me just watching it on the screen.
wow i was so amazed to see you try that candy, i live in the netherlands, and i thought people ate that all around the world. i have to say this is one of the most "normal" things you have made a video of. i would love to see you try out some more dutch stuff. here are some typical dutch foods (wich i REALLY like) for if you want to try something out (if ur out of ideas or something :p) Frikandel, Kroket, Hollandse Haring. love ur vids!
this is awesome yes!! i want to try more food from your country!did you know my longer name is Rembrandt?:) i will look up all the foods you mentione and maybe i can find some thank you!
@1337sh33p Something a Dutch friend of mine does which I particularly like is Gouda and preserved ginger on a cocktail stick. When I was a kid, Cheddar and pineapple on a stick was always a favourite party food of mine, but the Gouda and ginger combination is even better.
Great Episode again Remy - You definitely do deserve a Fan Page! Looking forward to a Jellied Eels Episode - although not sure you can get them in the USA?
@mike40email thank you!! i mihgt have to ask my dad to order jellied eels online but it is perfect for the show.do you like to eat them?i have never tried any.
@FoodOddities yes i like to eat them (I'm from England), theres a pie and mash shop near me which also serve them with mash potato - if you do get them watch out for the bone in the middle . .
Wow! That was quick! a new episode already. :D That's wicked awesome. I can see you're having so much fun in Beaver Island, the view, the town and the beach are just beautiful... I wish I could be there! This is such a fun episode, You were such a sport when those kids hosed you down with water. LOL. (Maybe it's because you're wearing such a striking red shirt that they thought you were a target.. hehehe.)That baby looked familiar, was that your niece? She's so cute!! I'm glad you're having fun!
yes it is my niece Evelyn she looks just like my little brother did when he was her age.she liked the parade too but no candy for her:) in one way i liked getting splashed because it was warm out so it wasnt too bad. but they skipped everyone around me and got me! maybe you right it might be my shirt.
it was mosly just salty!and weird salty like chemicals. but this is weird i let some people try it around me and someone said they didnt taste any salt at all only sweet!
I was in a candy shop yesterday and saw salty licorice from Scandinavia. I wanted to try it but the nostalgic candy overtook the urge lol. I will have to stop back and get me some for my son and I to try. Thanks for the good show Remy. I hope you are enjoying summer break!!
@FoodOddities Yes I like black licorice. Glad to hear you are having a good vacation. I live close to Cooperstown NY where the baseball hall of fame is. They also have a Farmers Museum that is an 1800's village. The general store there sells licorice root from the plant that gives the black licorice its flavor. Maybe I can send you some? You just chew on it. My son loves it and so do I.
@FoodOddities LOL! Yeah, I hear that it's one of those things that few people actually like, but many people from parts of Europe, especially the Scandinavian countries eat it to remind them of home!
:P
I love black licorice so much, but as hard as I tried I just couldn't get to like this stuff!
I've actually had that kind of licorice before... a Dutch friend of mine said he loved it and I should try one. It tasted sort of like salted dirt to me... it wasn't terribly pleasant.
I'll stick to the gummi candy from Germany.

Cool fan page Remy!
I love licorice so much-thus my dog being named Liquorice!
:P
So I thought salted licorice sounded interesting. But Eww! I gave my parents some to try & they thought I was trying to poison them!
That "salt" is also used as a flux for welding! It's horrid stuff! More like ammonia!
