Not everyone is military trained or grew up in the woods. With having the benefit of both it is scary to think about how little some people know about the basics of survival. Having watched your videos I had to say that you have done an EXCELLENT job even teaching me a thing or two . I am glad you reach so many people, you are helping a whole generation prepare for damn near anything by teaching practical skills, how to think outside the box and respect for the environment. Kudos to you sir.
@boxman09 I agree! What is the name of that cool Jam! Sounds like a little Hendrix, a little, country, and a little jazz all mixed together. I dig it.
Dave, who is this music??? I am want to hear more of them. It rocks and everytime I watch your vids I got it playin in my head half the day long. Do they have a CD or something?? Thanks and keep up the good work Dude!!
I definitely want to do one of your classes someday! Hopefully I will be able to next year. Are you planning any classes in the Western states any time? I will keep checking the website.
PS: I would love to hear you talk about PANTS. Wool?Cotton?BDU's? Carrhart? Synthetic? Warmth vs weight, water-proof vs quiet, cleanability, dryability... Thanks!
It's nice to see people getting together and learning useful skills. People of all ages can do this. Keep up good work Dave. Good to see Iris out there too.
Hello brother. Congratulations on the videos are excellent. I am Brazilian and bushcraft practice a lot in my country. Could you give me some tips on how to use monha hatchet in the woods? Thank you. Brother a hug.
I Love your series wish I could join your class someday. Can you tell me How you prepare klean bottle to boil water? Just add water and set next to the fire or put some purify tab and boil? Thank you from Thailand
@panpichit You don't need to purify it if you boil it, boiling it in the fire will purify it, the only thing boiling won't get out is chemicals so if the water source is polluted with nasty chemical you will have to buy a filtration system, if it doesn't have chemicals in it then just bringing the water to a rapid boil will kill any pathogens in it.
Its a beautiful thing to see , so many good people coming together in peace to learn useful things to enrich there lives , to be a teacher , to know you have passed on your knowledge and that it will live on in so many , pat your self on the back Dave because great men do great things and your getting it done !!!
@dullbrass he did a review of the green pullover wool blanket jacket a few videos back. I believe it is the last one labled Yurt. A link is provided to purchase from there.
@BornRandy62 Yes, that was "Empire Wool and Canvas". I checked them out but didn't find those jackets. I'm looking for the one with the tiger stripe like pattern. Thank you for responding!
@dullbrass It is called the Boreal Shirt by Empire Wool and Canvas. Go to their website. I have one too. It is expensive ($195), but worth every penny of it.
Yes, your back story about how you got interested would be interesting to most of us. I am 25 and got interested for various reasons about 3-4 years ago. We all have a story, what is yours.
wow that looked great..just got my fire piston couple days ago, been playing with it and some tinder in the yard...first rate very easy, just wish the wife would quit shaking her head at me...lol...my 12 yr old did it her 2nd try...love ebprimitives...love the fire piston..
Thanks for the reply Dave . I am testing out both right now . The Alpacha seems to be lighter , but it might not matter as long as they are both 100% wool .
That video make me glad that I was in my toasty home while this was going on. LOL Great job goes out to the class of 01/22/2012 Survival is just one step away from dying! Now you know how to survive in a winter setting.
@lcfshadow Alpaca is a hollow hair fiber and works as well thermally as sheep wool, for about 2/3 of the weight, even when wet. It actually sheds water very well. Alpaca isn't as durable and tends to thin, or stretch out of shape, where sheep wool tends to shrink or felt. Alpaca is hypoallergenic, so no itch for most people either. I've been looking to find a reasonable priced Sheep/Alpaca blend blanket, but so far no luck.
Should have done this up in Mass. we have snow, finally and ice that's walkable. That cave shot was wicked cool. Thanks for your dedication to your craft.
I love seeing this stuff brother! Dave i would like you to know that i am an avid follow of yours I'm 14 and getting into self reliance thank you for sparking that into me Dave!!!!!
Hey Dave I think it might be neat if you did a video talking about how you first became interested in wilderness self-reliance, and how you got your start doing it professionally. I think alot of your followers would enjoy it. Thanks for the great videos.
At least it wasn't raining. hahaha. Looks like fun, again, looks like fun. Reality has away of changing that view. great vid.

@lcfshadow Alpaca is a hollow hair fiber and works as well thermally as sheep wool, for about 2/3 of the weight, even when wet. It actually sheds water very well. comedyinchaos 1 month ago
@lcfshadow Inca's have tested Alpaca wool for thousands of years.
LivingHistorySchool 1 month ago
@lcfshadow Hey im not Dave but this is whati think.
Alpaca is not wool. Wool comes from sheep.
Wool(sheep)
Cashmere(Goat)
Alpaca(Alpaca)
Wool has a solid core which makes it more itchy, water and burn resistent.
Alpaca and Cashmere have hollow cores like human hair so its softer but not as good
from what ive been told.
Dave you are the man. Thanks for all the videos and info
Marty450 1 month ago
@lcfshadow Alpaca is better but it costs 10 times more. So for performance per dollar go with sheep wool. If money is no object go with Alpaca.
