But in this case, the 4G63 motor holds every record in four cylinder categories, boosted, nitro, n/a,alch, fwd, rwd, and awd. if you want to see an incredible testament to the 6 bolt 4G63 look up jon sheperd. His full body, caged first gen talon ran a 7.70, still under rebuild, hes rumored to be coming back with potency to run low 6's. Full body, all steel panels, no honda is doing that.

  • should have been a K20a2 head on a K24Bottomend. Then run the 120 shot of NOS!! 4g63's are good but in N/A form the ivtec makes most HP. The Ports on the the 4g63 are pretty small and more suited to a Road forced induction aplication. Still nice pass!!

  • I have a 2L B16B / GT35R hatch and sure wouldn't mind having a CRX with a fukkn 4g in there. The 4g is a very capable motor, and its cheap and simple.

  • @srt4dude1: this 4g63 engine is fwd based off the size of the tires compared to the rear. It would take a lot of time, money, and effort to convert a fwd crx into an awd. 4g63 motors can be made into all drivetrains, awd(gsx, tsi, etc.), fwd(gs, gst, esi, etc.), and even rwd.

  • theres no way a k20 stands up to the potential and capabilty that the 4g63 has.not to mention its response to mods.but not suprising to see another 4g63 hybrid swap,theyve put those damn engines in everything.modern automotives 1000whp 4g63 "FDSM" rx7 is much more sick though.but anyways,lets be honest, you dont see any daily driver k20s with 1000hp like the 4Gs.not downing the k20 in any way,theyre amazing engines,handle boost well.just dont compare them to the 4g63's capabilties,its no contest

  • Not to burst your bubble but the K20 is a better performance engine design the the 4g63. I love DSMs but honda has proven to build better performance engines then most japanese company's. The k20 makes almost the same HP as the 4g63 without a turbo. I would rather own a AWD car but i still respect the engineering that went into the designs of honda engines.

  • yeah but a k20 would be just as difficult to install, k20 is MUCHHH more expensive to buy, the 4g63 as a huge turbo aftermarket support while the k20 is mainly n/a aftermarket support, and forged parts for the 4g63 are much cheaper than the k20

  • Your right on that. I apreaciate talking to educated people like you. Yest the k20 is expensive due to its being a newer engine and every honda looser out there willing to pay gold for them. But im not looking at it in forms of price im looking at the technical innovation. If i was building a race car I would shouse the 4g63 because of it affordability and im not limmited to fwd.If you look at honda past the ricer they make great performance cars that handle extremly well for FWDs.

  • The k20 makes around the same factory power as the 4g63, true.... but the 4g DOMINATES in WHP gained per dollar spent after that point....

    Not to mention while your spending money on sleeves, the 4g will be pushing happily on the stock block WELL PAST the 400awhp mark(conservative, safe tune).

    There are many people who have safely topped 600awhp on their stock 4g blocks.

    the 4g is cheaper, and more boost friendly.

    it makes more power for less money.

    and.... it is a WAY beefier stock motor.

  • I really like the 4g63 but it does have a few flaws. If i substitute the k20 for a b18c1 it cost near the same price as the 4g63 I have built a 500 hp b16 before but like any honda it got stolen. The price i estimated to build my 4g63 is about 3gs more then i built my honda. Its including fixing the bearing issue. Reason why is that there is more used parts available for hondas then the 4g63 so shopping around is alot easier. I'm a mechanic so i check all my parts for defects before buying.

    There is a TON of effort, money and time into Honda's vtec motors....

    There is a reason some of their small motors make so much power without boost. They were designed and built too.

    I don't have to go out on a limb and say in general, Honda motors are WAY more technically advanced than any Mitsubishi motor, I don't think that has ever been a debate, lol.

    B/K/F even some D's.....they are all kickass motors and when modded correctly..... can make a ton of power per psi... insane amounts.

    My buddy has a major built B18c1 stroked to 1.95L in his eg hatch(92-95).

    golden eagle sleeves and a flawlessly built b16 head running a Precision .88 t4.

    ran a 10.6@140mph with stock intake manifold/tb

    and a 10.5@142mph with new i/m and t/b

    it is extremely fast...

  • The k20 was desinged as an N/A motor unlike the 4g63 so it would be unfair to put the strenghs of the sleeves in compairing the motors.What I am stating is that if the 4g63 was designed as an N/A motor they would not create no where neer the same power as the K20. the 4g63 needs the turbo to produce the same HP as the k20. I think the main reason why you do not see any 1000 hp K20 on the street is that one it would get stolen and 2 for the money you would have to put into strengthening the block

    do you even know what "internals" are?? as far as i know, a turbo isnt inside the engine, when people say "internals" they refer to the PARTS INSIDE THE ENGINE I.E.- Pistons, rods, crank.... the 4g63 engine came with forged factory rods that are twice as thick as almost any honda Rod ive seen, the stock crank has been knownto handle up to 800hp before u have to replace it with a forged 1, and the pistons are oil cooled with oil squirters.

    Dude, seriously, I've seen TSI's, GSX's and Lasers run 10s on stock internals with only drop in cams, injectors, fuel pump and a slightly bigger turbo.

  • How hard was it to do this swap? I'd be very very interested in doing this to a late 80's or early 90's Civic coupe or hatchback. 4G63 or hybrid 4G64 with 4G63 head and turbo stuff is so much more bang for your buck than any Honda motor... But I like Honda body/chassis' more than DSM's.

  • Run 11.0's with a bone stock motor, stock turbo and only 120 shot of NOS. NO... we couldn't have. Get real. If you look at the other DSM's that we have which are running a fully built motor and a 240 shot of NOS are barely in the high tens.

  • Why wouldn't you want to put a proven motor into your car? The 4G63 can handle 500+ hp completely stock, not many other turbo motors can run those numbers off the assembly line.

  • dude IDK what your talking about, you cant run 500 horse on a stock 4g63 idk where your getting your info, My GSX is running almost 400 not stock with an evo3 16G 264 intake and exhaust cams, walbro fuel pump, bigger injectors and fully tuned with stock bottom end, there is no way with the stock motor and turbo you can run even 400 HP stock unless your ready to sacrifice a great motor

Of course you can't run 500 ponies on the stock everything but you CAN run 500 hp on the stock BOTTOM END. The forged bottom end(rods) that came factory are pretty forgiving. A DSM driver like yourself should of known what i'm referring to when I said stock but ahwell.
