Maybe the station closed down because people use different fuel sources such as hydrogen in the future.

Perhaps fuel shortages cause stations to close down, maybe people will switch to other methods of transportation like buses and bicycles.

No cars because there are engines that exist TODAY that run on compressed air. DiPietro engine for one. Solar energy to power the compressors, cars running on air mean NO ONE'S BUYING ANY GAS!
