The yoyo have to be dead, in other words not sleeping. You spin the yoyo in the right or in the left direction depending on the string tension, take in mind that when you spin the yoyo, it's still not sleeping. It just rotate at the end of the string. (Left or Right)

How do you get perfect string tension?

You need to adjust your string. For example, take the string and approach the 2 extremities together. If the string twist in the left, that means your string is not tight enough. To make the string tighter you just need to spin your yoyo in the left direction until the string ain't twisting. If your string twist right, that means your string is too tight. So in this case, spin your yoyo in the right direction until the string ain't twisting.
