Hey dingoklectos, Chicago Exec Airport is in Wheeling! You can tell me I'm wrong with !!!!! but you don't know the location of the airport. This was a terrible loss to our community. I did not quote the NTSB because I remember this night as I live nearby. It was a cold, damp, miserable night. I find it hard to believe that ice was not ONE contributng factor. This was an experienced pilot with dozens of past approaches to Chicago Exec. I want to give Ken the benifit of the dought.
1/30/2006 Cessna 421B. Slowed to stall speed without flaps just turning base and stalled from 1,000 feet. No recovery effort was seen. There is a longer video here on yt. You can buy a plane, but you cannot buy talents. Was pilot error. See NTSB report.
This is the real video. Happened on approach to Chicago Executive Airport approx 7-8 years ago. Icing conditions caused the craft to stall and fall. 4 perished
You are wrong! This happened in Wheeling, IL...Its not icing, but the pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed during final approach. CFITOMAHAWK is correct... Pity 3 others died with him.
@dingoklectos Do you know anything about air craft? It is obvious from your comments you are clueless. It could have very well been icing related, ya Dingo. Just enough ice to freeze over the Airspeed indicator pilot tube, in conjunction with an Airspeed pilot tube heater failure. He could have had a stroke! I do not care if you are the best "tin kicker" in the world, It is speculation. No one will ever know what happened, and most certainly NOT YOU!! Get over yourself!!
@FLICKtheUSA Actually most personal plane owners are not Union men. Most are very wealthy managers or owners of companies. Average income of certificated aircraft owners are over 190,000 a year. GFYS with that Anti Union BS. Want to bet on the above?
@FLICKtheUSA Average income of Cabin Class Twins is even higher, in the $300,000 per year for sure. Most I know are millionaries or almost. Those twins can get to 500.00 an hour total cost per flight hour. A smart accountant won't buy one. That's not been too smart. Accountants are very money conscious i think. That is why they are Accountants.
@FLICKtheUSA See your Anti Union Pilot comment two weeks ago and read again my answers. You forget what you write? Besides Airline Pilots in an Union are the best due all the regulations that prevent Managers from cutting corners and overworking them. Tell that Anti Union Crap to Quantas, American, BA and Lufthansa Union Pilots with the best safety record in the world. Yes and we carry guns to take care of SOB's if necessary.
@FLICKtheUSA The Unions are the ones that pushed the FAA to adopt more workers Pilots protection and rights and safety you enjoy now. You are not and never been an Airline Pilot. So GFYS.
@FLICKtheUSA Unions were formed in the Auto Industry due Managers abuses in the 1920's. The Japanese (I did work for them before been a Pilot) make you work hard, but they compensate and don't abuse workers, hence no union needed with them. LEARN HISTORY KIDD0
Union does not control the quality of parts used. Managers do.
ATC Union was Anti Pilots Union due Jelousy. In that 1981 ATC strike, Pilots and co-pilots started doing most of the ATC traffic separation ATC job (i did myshare)
Pilot was on approach and not watching his airspeed...either that or his pitot heat was off and the tube iced up, knocking out the airspeed indicator. flaps come down, more drag created, no mind to the plane's attitude, stall is only too imminent. And it happened here.
@dingoklectos Yes, airspeed possibly due to an iced up airspeed pilot tube, due to possible airspeed pilot tube heater failure. Also could have been pilot error, not turning on heater. All anybody can do is speculate, we will never know exactly what happened. I do not care if you are the best "tin kicker" in the world, it is only speculation! R.I.P. to all on board!
so your respecting and telling a dead man to rest in peace by showing the final moments of his violent death.....hmmm seems a little sadistic dont you think? besides this video looks fake anyways... I believe this really did happen but that is not the actual video
@atrain910 This is the real deal! It was on the front page of the paper the next day, of all rude things!! Some one obviously posted this from document from ntb records, they are public.
I knew the pilot/owner of the plane. I worked in a small auto shop down the street from his North brook, IL. Sybaris location. I worked on Kens silver 1984 lincoln mark IV All the time, starting cica 1986/7. GREAT guy, always a smile and a joke! He gave me a personalized Sybaris jacket for a tip one day, does'nt sound like much, but it was expensive at that time...and I still have it to this day. PLEASE do NOT disrespect this man! R.I.P. Kenneth c. Knudson.
@POL3INAROW All respect for him, I'm a CFI CFII and MEI and I know that this is one of the most likely causes of accidents for multi-engine accidents. Actually, in list of frequency:failure to maintain directional control, failure to maintain constant airspeed, poor preflight and judgement, and inadvertent stalling, I know it sounds crazy, because it fit this flight characteristic perfectly, but those are the 4 biggest reasons for GA crashes, he just happened to fall into one of them
Cessna 421B. Other video shows he slowed as turning base at about 1k agl, plane dropped altitude, pilot said some expletive, looks like he pulled on stall which went vertical bank.
See the other video showing the turning stall very clear. Incredible clear. Great to show on pilot seminars.
I read NTSB report 1/30/2006. Both engines producing good power on fast vertical bank descent. No flaps, no right rudder correction noticed on descend from 1K stall.
I live in Queensland Australia and had a single engine cessna crash in a field near me and two people died and my brother and i were almost the first people on the scene and its not something i ever want to see again.R.I.P those who die like this.

How can one make such a mistake?
No stall warning indicator.
Being licensed for multi-engine, pilot should know better.
