  • You know you can get this movie on youtube for 3 bucks

  • Can i get a hell yah for the 20th maine

  • is it just me or did chamberlain sound a little like mel gibson?

  • those yankees are burning in hell right now for what they did.

  • @TheBrewskiBaby And I suppose making chattel out of men gets you a free ticket to heaven then, Johnny Reb?

  • @SCSNSE yankees had slaves until far after the civil war and the bible is perfectly clear that slavery is okay.

You look at what a mess the US is today it its all traced back to yankee hypocrisy.

  • @TheBrewskiBaby but give me an example of the yankees having slaves after the CW. And cite it!

  • @sesrunner08 Delaware was a slave state the slaves of which were not freed till the Constitution was amended well after the war was over.

  • @Cionaodh57 okay then, show me where that is, in a book!

  • @sesrunner08 Will a web page do? -->> slavenorth (dot) com/delaware.htm

  • @TheBrewskiBaby Also the bible says kill your children if they do not obey. Plus you have to look at the context it was written in too. Also what did Jesus say about slaves?

  • @sesrunner08 And just where does the Bible say to kill your children if they do not obey? I would very much like to know that.

  • @loojiji Matt 15:2-4, Matt 5:17-20

  • @sesrunner08 Jesus? You mean Jesus of Nazareth? Or that dude that went to Chicago? Jesus of Nazareth said nothing about slaves, but one of his principle apostles stated that a slave owner should treat his slaves with respect, and that Christian slaves should likewise show respect for their masters. That said, African slaves were stolen from their homeland, so buying and owning them was wrong. But most southerners did not own slaves, so were not fighting to retain ownership but to keep Yanks out.

  • @TheBrewskiBaby Jeez what a lunatic you are.

  • I went to the Fredericksburg battlefield yesterday, and to see how men charged at a wall that distance takes a lot of guts. you couldnt find 3 men to do that today... Hallowed ground.

  • @Imachowderhead When I was in the Army I was taught to **lowwwww crawwwwl** and at light speed if necessary and under machine gun fire. There's no way I would march up to a defensive position like that. General Lee did not appreciate the accuracy, range, and effectiveness of rifled muskets firing the minié ball.

  • @Cionaodh57 None of them did

  • @Imachowderhead I think you'll see that General T.J. "Stonewall" Jackson did understand it, and he devised tactics to compensate for both the minié ball and the superior numbers of Union forces: induce the enemy (e.g., Fremont, et al) to attack him in a strong defensive position, then attack the enemy's flank after he becomes demoralized. See Alexander, Bevin, _How The South Could Have Won the Civil War_, NY: Crown Publishers, 2007.

  • @Cionaodh57 Ive read it

  • @Imachowderhead Very cool! I'm still working on it!

  • @Cionaodh57 i understand what your saying, but "Stonewall" Jackson wasnt a defensive guru....he was more offensive, and to see him put up such great defenses at fredericksburg is truly impressive, it even impressed Longstreet who WAS a defensive guru

  • Comment removed

  • @dljc1979 And 30% of the South's population were slaves themselves.

  • think it time for another ? u s a is fucked .

  • Look at those fine gentlemen... glad to be a mainer lol

  • I think Jeff Daniels isn't sharp enough to be Chamberlain. He's too well fed! Look at all the skin under his neck o.O

  • @Butternut731863 Ok first off he dropped a immense amount of weight for this movie second off the reason he is so big is because the movie he did before Gods and Generals required him to put on A LOT of wieght his roll was about a man who had a eating disorder or something and was becomeing obese trust me watch Gettysburg he is plenty skinny Jeff Daniels dropped as much as he could in the time he had cut the guy some slack

  • @xXxInFaMYxXx I don't think he should be eating slack :P

  • Excellent bugling, sir.

  • GREETINGS FROM MAINE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • God Ambrose Burnside was an effing idiot

  • @tachikoma747 I agree

  • @tachikoma747 not an idiot imo, he just had unfortunate circumstances the enitre campaign as it ran on a very strict time table. He also tried to keep the army intact to prevent Lee from biting away pieces of his army (which is why Burnside refused to have Hancock cross the river and take Fredricksburg before the pontoon bridges arrive) But he did outsmart Lee but only temporary Lee was slow and sluggish because the winter had set in and expected both army to go to winter quarters.

  • @Spartanz1170 lol

  • @Spartanz1170 There is a great new book out titled: GETTYSBURG… OTHER TIMES

It’s about two soldiers and a nurse from other times meeting in Gettysburg on the first day of the great battle. People that are on this post would love it.

Check out the book at my YouTube profile (GETTYSBURGbook) or search Amazon.

    Cheers...

  • It's funny that Chamberlain commanded men with muskets and also died 2 years before the tank was first used

  • No shit? That's you? LOL, Nice.

  • my fav part of this movie is the quote fromt he roman civil war. i hope its online

  • look up BloodieMargie's channel, the speech is posted there under part two of the battle of fredericksburg.

  • look people the war was over a 144 years ago

stop hating on each other thats exactly how the war started

  • Sorry I have to say it friend, but unfortunately, old rivalries never die.

  • yeh i guess so

  • Thank you, we need more people like you on here.

    Great post!

  • @mastermike95 | NO IT STARTED BECAUSE GREEDY BANKERS AND LAND OWNERS WANTED TO STEAL SOUTHERN LANDS AND THEY DIDN'T GIVE THE SLIGHTEST SHIT ABOUT ANY FUCKING SLAVES.

  • colonel chamberlain was a really amazing person. Anyone who dosen't know about him should look him up

  • ill just go down the street to his house in maine

  • @alectendreme Yap. If I were a soldier - I would have wanted him as my commanding officer. My chances of coming home alive would have been a lot higher and under some idiot like Burnside.

  • @alectendreme fully agree with you there! Such an inspiration! Consequently he was one of the last people killed by the Civil War, several decades after the war ended. A fitting fate for a hero such a himself

  • @alectendreme The thing is, with our education system in the shape it is, about 60% of Americans have never heard of any general from the Civil War, let alone the Civil War itself.

  • i have been to chamberlians house 2 times

  • My Uncle was an extra in this movie no joke

  • woo thats right us maniers might not be smart but we can shoot a gun and we have guts!!

  • Gods and generals rules!

  • economics would have ended slavery-the north had the idea-pay the irish a dollar a day and charge them 1.25 rent-stupid southerners clothed, fed, place to live, doctor, etc their slaves-when someone cost the equal of a rolls today, you keep them up

  • Ambrose Burnside was the biggest idiot the north had

  • Yes he was and probably why he never wanted to take command of the AOP. That was the worst charge during the entire Civil War. Worst then Pickett's Charge, Malvern Hill, Franklin etc. 8,000 Union soldiers fell at Marye's Heights.

  • I'd have to disagree. That award goes to John Pope for almost destroying the Union Army.

  • @VerbotenDonkey Id say that price goes to both. Now my opinion thought is that most of the head generals in the North were incompetent for the most part. They were lucky they had men like Sherman and Hancock.

  • It wasn't all Burnside's fault. General Halleck in Washington,dc failed to send pontoons on time , thus delaying the attack. General Franklin messed up the attack on Lee's right flank. But to attack an enemy that was behind breastworks was stupidity , plain and simple.

  • Gettysburg had the best overall story while G&G had the best production quality. When Gettysburg first came out it blew me away. It was pretty good too given the fact that it was shot in such a short time. They gave the director more time to work on God and Generals though. Hopefully if they ever make The Last Full Measure it will have the story quality of Gettysburg and the production quality of G&G.

Jon Voight would make a good U.S.Grant and bring Tom Berenger back as Longstreet.

  • The North also absorbed Blacks into their armies to act as meat shields for the White regiments. Lincoln was a son of a bitch. He was the seed that will eventually cause our country to collapse. Selective elections are common in our government now, and the only people that get to make decisions are the ones that the decisions don't impact. Even if the South won the war, I doubt there would be slaves today (Britain had them after us, and they let them go).

  • Abraham Lincoln, my friend, is the 2nd greatest President this country has ever witnessed. He worked to preserve all that Washington and the founders worked to create -and you know what, he was killed because of it you ungrateful piece of shit!!!!

  • You must've believed everything you learned in your high school history class, huh? idiot.

  • My suggestion to you would be to read "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Hopefully, you will see that your overly critical and stupid comments about Lincoln are entirely ridiculous.

  • Not necessarily. In fact, my history teacher encouraged us to question what our history textbooks stated. During these times, I was forced to formulate my own opinion around objective material rather than subjective criticisms such as the ones you post.

  • Taking it up the butt like a champ. Figured.

  • Stop spewing your patriotic, subjective bullshit.

  • dont get me wrong Lincoln was agreat president but i belive that he did the wrong thing by raising an army agianst the southern states only deepend the conflict i belive it could've been peacce a readmission through talks

  • I agree with you. The problem was three weeks before the South fired on Fort Sumter, Lincoln refused to see any peace commissioners, even turning down Napoleon the third to work out a peace deal.

That being the case, Lincoln wanted a war. He got it. So we all lost.

Hats off to Union and Confederates.

  • @Androsian144 possibly but from lincolns view, an army was needed. in 1794 , washington raised an army to suppress the whiskey rebellion and it worked, so lincoln saw the same need.

  • @gobabygo90809

i would have fought alongside the whiskey rebels

Down with traitor to the cause washington!

  • @Tliberty91 I liked Lincoln too for wanting to save the Union and I am from Va. most people forget Booth was from Maryland and was making money on the war, when the war was over he decided to kidnap Lincoln but later changed his mind to killing him.The South suffered more because he was killed.

  • @OrientOranges EXCUSE ME? The British Empire outlawed slavery 30 years before the USA. The Royal Navy unilaterally forbade slave trading in the Atlantic, interdicting slave ships and seizing their human cargoes.

  • but if there wasnt the war black people stilll would be slaves

  • ...No they wouldnt... Even when the Blacks were "Liberated" from slavery, they still faced the same degree of racism as when they were in the SOuth. The problem was compounded i nthat the Blacks couldnt get jobs and subsequently a lot of them starved to death in the streets. Lincoln even proposed that the South could keep slaves if they would form back into America. If the south had one, our government would be run by people with morals and honor instead of by money and power like it is now.

  • Not really. The industrial revolution was just coming on to the scene. Machines would do the same work faster and cost less. Other countries got rid of slavery without a civil war, Britian, Russia, Mexico, Brazil and others. See, Lincoln was just itching for a fight.

  • I am from missouri and now living in Florida. The whole war was a tragedy that should never had happened, over 500,000-600,000 Americans were causalties from this war. In my opinion, both sides lost. Yes, the Union "won" the war, but it was no victory. Victory is as bitter as defeat was. I salute both sides, both the valor of the confederates and the courage of the union. I think most of us can agree on that.

  • You sound like a Ron Paul supporter

  • north still won the war- thats all that counts

  • Yes and look where we are now...

  • Won what? It was an American tragedy, there were no "winners". It was total devastation with up to 700,000 dead. Many quote "620,000" but as Thomas Livermore pointed out, many rolls were missing from both sides.

  • Northern people don't like the movie because it shows Confederates winning a battle, as if Lee never had. They were slapped in the face with the truth and moaned and pouted over it.

  • Im from the north and I liked the movie,

I dont care that we lost, its just history, we cant change the past

  • I liked "Gettysburg" more, but any Civil War movie that comes out, will boost American's into remembering our past and hopefully preserve our battlefields, North and South. That is the fight now. Stop the construction!!!

  • That's not why they didn't like it. People didn't like it because it made the South look like the good guys.

  • The truth is hard for some people to understand.

  • Not really. It showed both sides. The South had an argument that sounded quite compelling on the face of it (States' rights, not slavery). The depictions of General Lee and General Jackson are accurate. Both can rightly be called good men, unlike Jefferson Davis (fucking coward that he was), Jeb Stuart, Nathan Forrest, and that fucking bloodthirsty douchebag Quantrill. Forget the myths about Jesse James being a good guy. Anybody who rode with Quantrill deserved to die.

  • Joshua Lawrenece Chamberlain, commander of the 20th Maine at Gettysburg, was the very best this country produced.

He was a genetleman, a free thinker, a firece warrior and a fully decent and aware human being. Winning the Medal of Honor and surviving wounds that should have killed him he returned to Maine where he served as a 4 term Governor and preident of Bowdoin College. He was the last Civil war vet to die of his wounds when he passed away at the age of 85.

  • I don't see why the critics hated the film. I thought the camerawork, music, and overall mood was well played.

  • I agree

The critics didnt like it cause there wasnt any sex or throwing of the F word

I loved it cause it was so historically accurate

Im from Louisana so i liked the scenes with the New Orleans Cannon :D

  • well there's one aspect in which it wasn't historically accurate...Lee did not get control of the virginian forces at the very beginning of the war like the courtroom scene said (if my memory serves me). it wasn't until a year into the war that he got control and became famous during the seven days battles.

  • Yess that is correct but it would have been hard for a lot of people to change from one commander to the next in the movie and 99 percent of americans know the name General Lee

Alot of the movie was hollywoodfied but for the most part it was pretty good and much better then the usal junk turned out by hollywood

  • The soliliquies and long-winded dialogue really took away points from the movie.

  • I dunno, I kinda liked the long dialogues, and as unrealistic that makes the speakers in this movie sound, I still liked it

  • hahahahahahaaha they all died!!!!!

  • gutless pussy

  • to bad all the pussies up north cant belive that black people fought for the CSA

    gutless pussy

  • hey buddy what the fuck does that have to do with anything.

  • U heard me they north suffered more casualties than the south in the war

  • I don't hate north or south they are both American and if i had it my way we would of never had the war. yes the confederate army was very very strong.

  • Woop-Dee-Frickin' doo!

the North still won the war. Wether or not you want to accept it or not. It need not matter how many casualties we lost. The U.S. lost around 40,000 men on the last day of WWI after the Treaty of Versalles was signed, but guess what? They were on the winning side!

  • well the black people had no choice there masters forced them to fight and other CSA regiments hated even seeing them in there uniform.

  • Not actually true. Many of them did in fact fight for the South of their own free will, some even turned out to be more loyal to the Southland than their own masters when captured. Others just out of a sense of loyalty or duty and simply went home if the master was killed and even went out to return the body to the family before leaving.

  • Thank you, glad you know the truth and history. Great post!

  • Learn history before making up shit you don't know. Southerner's did not even want to arm the slaves at first, so how would they "force them to fight?"

  • I knew that, but by the time the CSA allowed them to, it wad too little, too late. Why are you so bent out of shape over the war? If you don't like it, move to Britain. At least they liked the CSA...

  • You must accept defeat. Chamberlain never died in battle. He was injured six times! Thomas Chamberlain lived till 55 then died from bad health. Everyone dies. Get over your loss. You are part of the Union whether you like it or not.

  • How come no one says how heroic the south was when the charged an open field to the WHOLE army of the Potomac while being shelled by cannons the whole time for 1 MILE!

  • fine line between heroics and stupidity. they crossed that line on that field

  • Well every one knows that burnside was a very stupid man agressive but stupid

  • The old 5th New Hampshire's dead were in advance then all the Union regiments that attacked.

  • 20th Maine's first fight. At Chancellorsville they guarded telegraph lines.

  • 15-th Alabama !!! i wonder who wouldve won at Gettysburg if they'd met on a plain field, not amongst those boulders, with 20-th maine entrenched and Hood's boys having to charge uphill.

  • Great vid by the way.

    Union Forever

  • I hope the Last Full Measure will be produced...G&G was a southern viewpoint, as at the beginning of the war the south was winning for the most part. Gettysburg, a far superior film IMHO had far more believeable characters and evenly showed north and south to show the turning point of the war. Last Full Measure I suppose would show primarily northern viewpoint to the end of the war. It would be an expensive movie to produce though. No more open field battles, all fortifications...

  • That would be a great movie

  • The war on terror is fake.

  • By the time the Romans came in power, Greece had long since been out of power. United on what? Bush's made up stories to waste more of our taxes? He still has not found a single nuke in Iraq.

  • That last comment is they typical modern ignorant southern view. Your ancestors had heart, courage and honor. You sir are probably some idiot redneck from either Miss or Ala. Why dont you go have a dog fight your battles like Michael Vick. Once I go South of maryland I get sick!

  • yeah, because those comments aren't ignorant.

  • Good hopfully you yanks will stay up north. Sadly tons of yankees move to the south because you have overpopulated and poluted the north and you see how cheap land is down in the south so you move here and care for noones feelings. You say "A MALL WOULD LOOK WONDERFUL WERE THAT FOREST IS!" You care for noone but yourselves and you disrespect nature. Had the south won this crap wouldnt be happening here in the south because your yankee asses would still be up north.

  • LOL You've OBVIOUSLY NEVER ventured North of the Mason/Dixon line. As far as Northerners moving South...For 50 yrs, state and local governments throughout the South, RECRUITED companies and residents from Northern states. 'Southron's eagerly sold off land to developers. Now they blame (as always) Yankees, for the consequences of their own greed. Typical.

  • I have sold no land to any yankee.

In the neighborhood im in, its 80% people originaly from the north.

    It sickens me.

Im not going to argue with you because if I did. The yankees would still be here. No poijnt

  • yankee mentality is the root of all opression!GOD BLESS THE SOUTH!-unreconstructed southerner

  • Pathetic. Just pathetic.

  • the fact that we are never likely to see Last Full Measure is a real shame - Gods and Generals has to be one of the greatest war films of all time. Ted Turner could make the world a better place by getting his hand in his pocket, getting Robin Williams to play US Grant (could you think of anyone better?) and Duvall playing Lee (the fact that he is related to him makes

  • I'm proud to say I worked on this movie as an extra. I hope Maxwell does "Last Full Measure" to complete the trilogy.

  • The movie "Last Full Measure" will NOT be produced.
