Only the Irish referendum on 12 June can save us from the Lisbon Treaty (the EU constitution in disguise). The rest of the 26 member states are ratifying the treaty in parliament without asking the people (as promised, in some cases). If the Irish vote Yes, the Treaty is expected to take effect on 1 January 2009. The EU would then be able to empower itself without the consent of each of its member states.
