I knew a guy like you when I was a kid, same guitar style, same cruddy guitar who never let lack of a tune up stop him from playing anyway! hehe! You are not a guitar player (although I'll bet you can play all the "good bits" of every song) - and I bet you write interesting songs with interesting chord progression. You have a distinctive voice. Get it tutored and sing stuff (like this) that show cases it. Accept help and share along the way. BTW - my mate still earns his living with music.
