  • @joedog281 before you run your mouth about shit you heard on the internet in your bitch ass mother's basement, get your fucking . Pete Townshend has been an anti-chfacts togetherild porn activist long before the incident, and the only reason the incident took place was because he was doing reasearch for the organization he worked for. Authorities checked his computer afterwards and found no trace of downloaded material. How dare you bad mouth the legendary Pete Townshend. Ur a fucking faggot.

  • @abt7217tc You are 100% correct in your comment, but you are wasting your time with an obvious troll. I appreciate you standing up for Pete and telling the truth but if someone doesn't want to know it is their loss!

  • Pete Townshends a Riff God !!

  • Thanks for sharing this. Nice quality. I'd never seen this footage before. Rock on.

  • Pete Townshend is so fucking cool it blows the concept of cool out of the water completely <3

  • One of the greatest feelings you will ever get stone cold sober is listing or playing rock.. You loose your self for a moment in time.. Long live the who

  • Classic line No One Had the Guts to Leave the Temple. The Who, What a Great band. Top of The Line Rock! I'm Waiting for you to Follow Me. Becky, Avery...

  • Inspiration and Rock & Roll melded into one.

  • Classsic!!

  • great song

  • the who, one of the best bands ever

  • Magnificent.

  • I love Pete's side kick/drag he does while playing this song, but this concert he does the circle thing. Can't find it on youtube...maybe it was Monterrey or Woodstock? Pete is an amazing guitarist and a genius. I can't possibly get enough of 'me boys

  • @stellamax1 the "windmill"??You can find it anywhere.That's his trademark move. ;)

  • @Bunnypunker No, I mean with his leg...I found it on the London Coliseum Tommy concert...he kicks his leg out to the side and slowly drags it back in...another very cool Pete move...I've only seen him do it on this song.

  • oh ive seen him do it a lot on the tommy tour. not at this show ( own the DVD) but a lot in '69 (i have the coliseum / kilburn DVD, he does it a lot there) and he does it during sparks at woodstock.

  • @Bunnypunker No, he saw keith richards doing it and then copied it, don't judge me, i love the who and don't give a damm about the rolling stones, but i read this on the who FAQs

  • @bigmanpigman

Keith Richards was streching, and Pete asked if he could use that move. Keith allowed him to, even though he's never really done a performace using that move.

  • 00:59

"And freedu-eh uh for you to follow me!"

    XD

  • yah what a weiner

  • I really like this riff, it's completely original.

  • Typical video of a band. Never even show the bass player. A CRIME with this band

  • @daj29152 Crime? My ass. More like a SIN!

  • @daj29152 watch the whole movie, lots of shots of him (he's the guy in the skeleton suit!)

  • @daj29152

Yeah the only explanation is that camera men at the time had a major phobia of skeletons

  • long live entwistle!!!

  • Actually the answer to that follow thing sex -> minimum age twenty, money ->tough, don't answer the other question wrong.

    Guilt by association

  • if you want to know just how good pete plays this song, listen to it on the tommy album or cd on the right channel only. Then go to my youtube site abjr2010.

  • KILLER, thanks for posting

  • Yeah it's killer fucking riff. Personally I think Pete was a fantastic guitar player. Some people say he wasn't the greatest but I really don't know what their talking about.

  • well yea petes obviously not a god-like guitarist skill wise. but his style of playing is whats so amazing!

  • @madmethod21 people say he's not, and ppl like zep and jimi had these intricate solo type ones. but pete used every chord differently, making it sound like something totally new each time, and i think that takes mroe skill anything else

  • @madmethod21 DOn't think they do either - he is a really good, understated guitarist - not like talentless flash trick merchants like Slash (what happened to his face for fix sake, no wonder he wears a hat and lond hair - he should stick a fucking bucket over his head)!

  • @madmethod21 you need to watch the movie Tommy..than you'll 'get it'

  • @madmethod21 Dam right and he is the nicest guy also lives near me in london

  • @madmethod21 Pete is a genius.

  • @madmethod21 I wrote to Rolling Stone to register a complaint, their list said Pete Townshend was the 50th greatest guitar layer of all time... And I corrected them by saying he is obviously number 1... I told them it must have been a syntax error or something

  • @zombiemonster No way - Jimi Hendrix is the number 1 greatest rock guitarist of all time but Pete is definately MUCH better than number 50 !

  • @LODGE4444 Ah true... u got a point there

  • @LODGE4444 Beck blows hendrix away

  • @abt7217tc Jeff Beck is certainly one of the greatest rock guitarists ever - I guess it's really a matter of style - who's style you like best - Those 2 albums he did with Rod Stewart ( Truth and Beck-o-la ) are incredible.

  • @LODGE4444 true dat son

  • @abt7217tc Eat cock.

  • @Khultan you don't have very many friends, huh?

  • @abt7217tc Oh, please, you're getting carried away with yourself, you blowhard. Hush.

  • @Khultan You made me wait a week to hear from you, and I get this chicken shit remark? Come on, son or daughter, get real. I admit, I can't play what Hendrix plays, but why the fucck would I want to? Beck is a far superior guitarist. Can this be the end of the Beck Hendrix debate on this video? This is a Who song, so enjoy Ole' Pete's killer fucking riff, and we can continue this frivilous argument on a Beck or Hendrix video.

  • love this riff!!!!

  • Pete is the man! his playing is so raw and spontaneous. you can hear him mess up and just make it work. raw emotion! thats what rock is. Nasty!

  • Fantastico

  • this is the best 1 on utube of this song

  • they jusy play a little part that sounds like pinball wizard but its really partv of this song

  • That's how they do it in operas.

  • I BOUGHT THE CD OF THE WHOLE SHOW THERE ARE 30 BREATH TAKING SONGS shit, caps lock again!

  • yeah, i hate the motherfucker

  • Anyone noticed how much the part starting at 1:40 sounds like the intro to Pinball Wizard?

  • It does sound like Pinball Wizard, but it's not the intro, it's right before the vocals come in.

I'm not sure, but my guess is that the next song The Who played was Pinball Wizard, I know for a fact that they did play Pinball Wizard at Isle of Wight.

  • nah, this is like the 18th song, and pinball wizard is the 13th, don't ask me how I know that, I've listened to the album for too long.

  • It's a motif.

  • You need to get the Tommy album and listen to it.

  • It is a leitmotif.

  • @Sandolainen yea since both songs are on the Tommy album

  • I put this on a pub jukebox in London a few years ago and these businessmen started singing it - they were word perfect lol!!

  • great song

  • W00t! I'm free!!!!! :'DD

  • me too....look! watch me spell W00t with Os instead of 0s: Woot!---and lower case too! Now that's freedom!!!

  • WOOT!!!!!!! x)

  • what's the name of the song that they were going to start playing at the end of the vid?

  • tommy's holiday camp

  • thanks dude! i should have guessed considering it's just two songs away from "i'm free"

  • Saw them 1970 in Frakfurt/Germany. That were crazy times. Thank's for that video !

  • awh dude, that's amazing. I wish I was born in the 60s so I could see them live :(

  • The tone of the sg special with p90s is awe inspiring

  • I think it was Doc Martin's (not 100%....was a long time ago) cause he also said he wished he had a marketing agreement with them

  • Pete townshend is the fucking coolest

  • this song is sick

  • I love Pete's jumpsuit

  • If I remember an interview correctly, Pete decided to wear the white jumpsuit because he wanted to wear "work clothes" rather than the fancy uniforms or glamorous outfits. He also wore Dock Martin work boots....started a new look!!!!!

  • Makes me love him even more, then!

  • Docs or Derbys?

  • @martinriggs07 No that's completely wrong. I saw the interview in reference to the Isle of Wight festival. He started wearing a white jump suit because he saw so many concerts where the performers were hard to see at a distance because of dark clothing. He wanted everyone to be able to see him. The Who were very competitive with each other for attention of the audience. This was a driving force behind their live shows. That's how I always understood it.

  • @mindeloman. From :Amazing Journey: The Life of Pete Townshend By Mark Wilkerson. "Townshend now took the stage most nights wearing a white boiler suit complete with Meher Baba necklace and button, Doc Martens work boots ("I used to go on wearing a boiler suit and Dr. Martens indefiance of fashion," Pete told NME in 1980)...

  • @mindeloman . One more:

Q: In the history of rock, there seems to have only been two uniforms; T-shirt and jeans or the suit? Why are you generally more comfortable in the latter? Are they tailored or off the rack?

A: Ah! There was the boiler suit and Doc Martens for me for many years. After the psychedelic absurdities I decided to go anti-fashion.

The Who's Pete Townsend talks over life, love and new tour Endless Wire By Kathy McCabe From: The Daily Telegraph March 27, 2009

  • @martinriggs07 That's a new one. I'll have to find the interview and post it for you. It really doesn't surprise me though. Townshend has a way of "remembering" differently and changing things to fit. Tommy is a perfect example. The song title 1921 really didn't fit the story of tommy's dad being a WWII pilot shot down. In the stage versions it was retitled 1941. Although, Townshend is a R&R god, his memory can be very selective from times.

  • Love that white jumpsuit. Pete I love you! So iconic!

  • i love the who, they are the best in the rock world

  • Great Bandd

  • ha. I think John is more exciting to watch then Keith honestly. I love watching his crazy bass fills.

  • where is john?!?!?!

  • WOW this video has way too much John.

  • I sense the sarcasm

  • What sarcasm? I think I saw a hint of his elbow. That's way too much for me.

  • isnt this woodstock?

  • no it is isle of wight

  • Roger screws up on the lyrics at 59 secs but great overall performance

  • Haha, never realised that.

  • This song is the best one to blast!

  • entwhistle is amazing

  • Im waiting for you to follow me...

  • I don't even care that Pete looks silly in that jumpsuit!

Thanks for this! I love em

  • He does not look silly. He looks bloody cool. Coolest man on the planet.

  • forgive me! You are right!

  • You got that right!

  • KEITH, I LOVE YOOOOOOOOOOU!

  • i love him more xDDD <33333333333333333

  • I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • hi,I'm just trying to post a comment for the archives.

  • What "archives"?

  • one of the first songs i goofed around with on guitar

Da Da Da da Da Da da

  • ESTO ES IMPRESIONANTE POR DIOS!

  • Daltrey carriea beautifully through Townsend's painfullly obvious odditiy he had to obviously be experiencing (3 "e" or 3 don't quite know).....then Moon ends with a flourish aqny drummer should envy. THE WHO! After all this was that Liney crap where they had finally made their mark: they absolutely destroyed America by then.

  • Liney Crap? What is "3"e" or 3"? Actually, what the hell did you just say?

  • That's me in te 4th row. Was there.

Was a total trip. If only I could remember alot of it :-)

  • i love how pete strums his guitar at 00:10 its so good.

  • this version has a really powerful intro

  • Lapsus

  • Wight Island? It's the bloody ISLE OF WIGHT! Check an atlas.
