The day I don't give a great big thumbs up to Charlie Chaplin is the day I finally give on life. Not yet, not by a long chalk. There's always a reason to hope for something better tomorrow, no matter what you've suffered today. And, of course, Nat Cole sings this beautifully. You don't need to be told that. That's a self-evident truth.

I love Charlie Chaplin, my grandparents made me love him since I was a little girl, showing me his movies and talking about him. It doesn't matter what people may say about him, he was a truly great artist and a good human being with all the flaws a human being has. Love this video. I think the scene from "The Vagabond" at 0.11 in this video really epitomizes what this song is about, Charlie looks heartbroken saying good by to the girl but when she looks up he just smiles, Out of all the versions of "Smile) (outside of Modern Times) I really love Nat King Cole's.

So beautiful. Not everyone gets what a lovely heart this man had and how much he wanted to give that away to everyone else. Thank you!!...for taking time out to put this together.
I think it's easy to forget now-a-days just what a legend this man was. He was a great actor, both physically and emotionally. He composed the music for almost all of his own films and when he started making talkies he was capable of making speeches like the one at the end of The Great Dictator. A truly remarkable man.
@fontario4 That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Acting is about building up an emotion or set of emotions in a character, sure anyone can move (unless they're in a coma) but if the movements are too subtle or even too flamboyant, you'll lose the effect.
Silent actors have to have such an understanding of their part and such a commitment to their role that they can communicate with an audience without words. It's one of the hardest methods of acting to do.
@fontario4 Have you ever noticed that when having a conversation or any other interaction with someone, you make facial expressions such as SMILE and use body language, unless you're a robot... So obviously silent actors have to know how to act, otherwise these movies would look artificial and emotionless.
@TheMr28 he also was a dancer, and writer, an editor, a director and so much more. god that man was talented, and, you are so right, a complete legend.
@TheMr28 He single-handedly destroys the myth of progress and its wretched chronological snobbery. Chaplin was infinitely better than any filmmaker today.
@deathly135 Most people today have been processed to believe that we're living in the most advanced time yet. They believe that history is a story of progress. Therefore, since most believe that we live at the apex of history, most today are chronological snobs (though of course they'd deny being so, in accord with other processing they've received; for example, todays dogmatic egalitarianism). They reflexively - that is, without thinking - equate the newer with the better.
@Jitpring (cont.) They confuse mere development with progress (most obviously regarding technology). They forget that the last 100 years have been the bloodiest in all of human history, with two World Wars of unprecedented death and destruction. They forget that we've exchanged slavery for the legalized murder of preborn infants, to the body count of tens of millions upon tens of millions since 1973 in the U.S. alone. They forget that wrong choice = tiny corpse.
@Jitpring oh ok... I've seen a couple of his material... Can you recommend me the must-watch material of Chaplin... Or a good collection dvd to start with?
Im just wondering, when i search up smile, its allways with Charlie Chaplin, but its not him singing? Can some1 please answer me about this? I dont get it ^^

Sorridi, anche se il cuore ti duole
sorridi, anche se si sta spezzando
quando ci sono nuvole nel cielo
ci passerai sopra
se sorridi attraverso

sorridi e forse domani
scoprirai che la vita vale ancora
la pena di essere vissuta
se tu solo sorridi...

@Jitpring please explain lol I can be a bit slow even if I understand a sentence.

Jitpring 7 months ago
@Jitpring (cont.) They confuse mere development with progress (most obviously regarding technology). They forget that the last 100 years have been the bloodiest in all of human history, with two World Wars of unprecedented death and destruction. They forget that we've exchanged slavery for the legalized murder of preborn infants, to the body count of tens of millions upon tens of millions since 1973 in the U.S. alone. They forget that wrong choice = tiny corpse.
Progress? Is somebody kidding?
Jitpring 7 months ago
@Jitpring oh ok... I've seen a couple of his material... Can you recommend me the must-watch material of Chaplin... Or a good collection dvd to start with?
deathly135 7 months ago
@deathly135 Sure. In chronological order, these are the must-see Chaplin films:
The Kid
The Gold Rush
The Circus
City Lights
Modern Times
The Great Dictator
Monsieur Verdoux
Limelight
All are pure, absolute gold. I'd begin with City Lights.

תודה לכם על הסרטונים sorry it's not in english
