Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, etc were all great comedians of the early 20th century were distinguished themselves as regular joes who were down on their luck, yet never fail to keep on going with a polite smile on their face. I think it's easy to forget now-a-days just what a legend this man was. He was a great actor, both physically and emotionally. He composed the music for almost all of his own films and when he started making talkies he was capable of making speeches like the one at the end of The Great Dictator. A truly remarkable man.

@fontario4 That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Acting is about building up an emotion or set of emotions in a character, sure anyone can move (unless they're in a coma) but if the movements are too subtle or even too flamboyant, you'll lose the effect.

Silent actors have to have such an understanding of their part and such a commitment to their role that they can communicate with an audience without words. It's one of the hardest methods of acting to do.
