  • Im memory of Caleb "Flip" Kors, passed away at age 10 Tue. Jan. 10, 2012, a prodigal circus performer and vibrant soul. Caleb will keep us smiling and not crying always, cause thats what he did. Made people smile :).

  • Chaplin was a genius! Thank you for this inspired work of art.

  • A 15 year old girl died in a car crash in my town, the whole school district is broken up about it. Today was an indoor marching band concert, and they played this while going through a slide show of her. Tons of people started smiling at the memories! :D

Love you Abby! rest in peace!

  • This song make me smile..:)

  • The day I don't give a great big thumbs up to Charlie Chaplin is the day I finally give on life. Not yet, not by a long chalk. There's always a reason to hope for something better tomorrow, no matter what you've suffered today. And, of course, Nat Cole sings this beautifully. You don't need to be told that. That's a self-evident truth.

  • The hardest job of all is to make ppl laugh.. CHARLIE WAS THE BEST DOING IT!!!! GENIUS!

  • @Scalisi89

Its even harder if you can't use your voice to do it. Charlie must have been such a funny person in private. What would I give to meet him.

  • @LuckiZero You're absolutely right, without using yr voice is even harder and he did it PERFECTLY! That's why he was a pure GENIUS! And his films and quotes will live forever, as well as he'll do!

  • Great video, great song.

    Just great.

    Thank you!

  • My favourite song written by my favourite actor

  • Laughter is the tonic, the relief, the surcease for pain.

  • Even today it fills our heart of joy!

  • This was my childhood

  • I love Charlie Chaplin, my grandparents made me love him since I was a little girl, showing me his movies and talking about him. It doesn't matter what people may say about him, he was a truly great artist and a good human being with all the flaws a human being has. This song is beautiful, and Nat King Cole does an amazing job :)

  • amazing

  • Beautiful ,,my dads song x

  • Waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Michael Jackson.

  • @SopranoOfTheNight

lol, michael jackson is the one whos singing.

  • @Stelshima No, this is Nat King Cole.

  • @Stelshima No, this is definitely Nat King Cole. Look at the description. Michael Jackson's version sounds very different because he sings in more of a pop style whereas this is definitely jazz. Also, Michael Jackson has a nasal tone and Nat King Cole really doesn't.

  • I love Michael, but I feel like Nat King Cole created more of what Charlie Chaplin was thinking of when he wrote this song. We'll all miss both Charlie, and Michael forever. <3

  • I just loved this song so much:-))))

  • I'm 13 years old and I'm a big fan of Charlie Chaplin and all of his silent movies! Keep it goin', chap! :)

  • A WONDERFUL SONG X

  • I NEVER... BEFORE... WAS SO TRULY ... HAPPY!!!... God bless my BELOVED FRIEND... He did shear with me such gorgeous of peace art... sens of beauty... harmony and TRUE LOVE!!! Twenty years before... I was soooooooo happy!

    LA VITA E BELLA!!! :-)))

Danke an IHn!!

  • Love this video. I think the scene from "The Vagabond" at 0.11 in this video really epitomizes what this song is about, Charlie looks heartbroken saying good by to the girl but when she looks up he just smiles, Out of all the versions of "Smile) (outside of Modern Times) I really love Nat King Cole's.

  • Love this video. I think the scene from "The Vagabond" at 0.11 in the video really epitomizes what this song is about? Charlie looks heartbroken saying good bye to the girl but he just smiles when she looks up. Maybe I'm dating myself but I other than the version from Modern Times I really love Nat King Cole's version of Smile.

  • Chaplin a master of laugh !

  • Happy Birthday Genious!!!!

  • Michael Jackson sings this better, Michael's voice is smoother and more calming, this guy is more of a jazzy sound. I like the more soothing version, which is Michael. Just my opinion. But this guy definitely adds a jazzy edge, if that's your style of music

  • Sorridi, anche se il cuore ti duole

sorridi, anche se si sta spezzando

quando ci sono nuvole nel cielo

    ci passerai sopra

    se sorridi attraverso

...la tua paura e al dolore

    sorridi e forse domani

scoprirai che la vita vale ancora

    la pena di essere vissuta

    se tu solo sorridi...

  • i learned this song as a child and always sang it to my self when i am down. i love it. its means the world to me now and nat king cole has always been the best guy to sing this beautiful song written by chaplin. i enjoyed this video thank you soo much this.

  • This song helps me cheer up when I'm feeling down. Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, etc were all great comedians of the early 20th century were distinguished themselves as regular joes who were down on their luck, yet never fail to keep on going with a polite smile on their face. My favorite would have to be stan laurel :)

  • I Love Charlie Chaplin Lovely Smile !!! I love this song with good lyrics .The emotion of the video really touches my heart .... ' Smile ' Light up your face with gladness . A light spirit can bear a heavy fate !!! Thank you !!!

  • one of my favorite songs...

  • Love it!

  • MJ's cover of this song was great!!!!!!

    RIP, MJ.

    <333

  • Greatest actor of all time <3

And he had the most adorable smile♥

  • I had heard this great song before, didn't know it was Chaplin's.. great.

  • This is such a sweet video. Love the clip of Charlie and Chuck Reisner, I think it may be during the time he was filming "Sunnyside". I really agree with Uyghur, out of all the renditions of this song Nat King Cole really brought out the essence of "Smile" and did Chaplin's song justice. I wonder what Charlie Chaplin thought of Nat King Cole's version.

  • my mom used to sing me to sleep with this song. and it still makes me think of her (: the best song ever right here! <3

  • i love this song so much

  • the most bEAUTIFUL SONG in the world

  • Thank you for posting this! I've been trying to decide which version of "Smile" I wanted to buy on MP3. This is the best one! Time to go download it. X

  • love this song

  • Great; I love it.

  • Good song.

  • 6 people don't like smile

  • So beautiful. Not everyone gets what a lovely heart this man had and how much he wanted to give that away to everyone else. Thank you!!...for taking time out to put this together.

  • I think it's easy to forget now-a-days just what a legend this man was. He was a great actor, both physically and emotionally. He composed the music for almost all of his own films and when he started making talkies he was capable of making speeches like the one at the end of The Great Dictator. A truly remarkable man.

  • @TheMr28 The biggest part of acting is convincing people what you are saying is true, silent movies don't require acting.

  • @fontario4 That might be the stupidest thing I've ever read.

  • @TheMr28 Lol of course insult someone for having an opinion.

  • @fontario4 You obviously do not know anything about acting, what you said is one of the dumbest things i have read.

  • @vinbone I know that if all it takes to act is body movement then anyone can do it.

  • @fontario4 That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Acting is about building up an emotion or set of emotions in a character, sure anyone can move (unless they're in a coma) but if the movements are too subtle or even too flamboyant, you'll lose the effect.

Silent actors have to have such an understanding of their part and such a commitment to their role that they can communicate with an audience without words. It's one of the hardest methods of acting to do.

  • @OTimeMasterXO Good point, thanks for at least trying an explanation instead of just insulting.

  • @fontario4 Have you ever noticed that when having a conversation or any other interaction with someone, you make facial expressions such as SMILE and use body language, unless you're a robot... So obviously silent actors have to know how to act, otherwise these movies would look artificial and emotionless.

  • @TheMr28 he also was a dancer, and writer, an editor, a director and so much more. god that man was talented, and, you are so right, a complete legend.

  • @TheMr28 He single-handedly destroys the myth of progress and its wretched chronological snobbery. Chaplin was infinitely better than any filmmaker today.

  • @Jitpring please explain lol I can be a bit slow even if I understand a sentence.

  • @deathly135 Most people today have been processed to believe that we're living in the most advanced time yet. They believe that history is a story of progress. Therefore, since most believe that we live at the apex of history, most today are chronological snobs (though of course they'd deny being so, in accord with other processing they've received; for example, todays dogmatic egalitarianism). They reflexively - that is, without thinking - equate the newer with the better.

  • @Jitpring (cont.) They confuse mere development with progress (most obviously regarding technology). They forget that the last 100 years have been the bloodiest in all of human history, with two World Wars of unprecedented death and destruction. They forget that we've exchanged slavery for the legalized murder of preborn infants, to the body count of tens of millions upon tens of millions since 1973 in the U.S. alone. They forget that wrong choice = tiny corpse.

    Progress? Is somebody kidding?

  • @Jitpring oh ok... I've seen a couple of his material... Can you recommend me the must-watch material of Chaplin... Or a good collection dvd to start with?

  • @deathly135 Sure. In chronological order, these are the must-see Chaplin films:

    The Kid

    The Gold Rush

    The Circus

    City Lights

    Modern Times

    The Great Dictator

    Monsieur Verdoux

    Limelight

All are pure, absolute gold. I'd begin with City Lights.

  • we alla gonna try to smile like he did! looooove you!

  • cant help but cry..

  • i loled 0:47

  • soooooooooWONDERFUL!!!!!!!this is MUSIC. Thank you

  • Charlie...my hero =)

  • The Most Universally Loved Actor of All Time.........EVERYBODY loves the LITTLE TRAMP........and Nat King Cole does this Song Better than Anyone!!

  • This song is for your broken heart. It always makes me feel better.

  • Did Chaplin write the music too ?

  • @11xzxzxz He wrote the music, not the lyrics.

  • @TheFlyingPeregrine Cool and thanks.

  • Essa música é linda demais!!! Lição... Vai ser toque no meu celular...

  • Im just wondering, when i search up smile, its allways with Charlie Chaplin, but its not him singing? Can some1 please answer me about this? I dont get it ^^
