Bass playing with pick is a non sense, that's a normal guitar with all the notes one eight down, i've been playing bass for 4 years and guitar for two and they are different instruments and they need an specific way of playing, i have played in bands from metalcore to post-rock, but always with finger picking o slap cos thats the real way to play bass, have u seen flea playing with a pick? pastorius? NO

One day you will realize that tonal variation is important. As I've said, the main reason that a bassist would use a pick is to access a more aggressive/mid-range tone. Try it and you'll notice the change. It is true that a lot of beginners start using a pick because they played guitar first or whatever, but that's why I said BASSIST and not Someone-Who-Can-Kinda-Play-Bas­s.

PS: Flea is a terrible bassist, his technique is fucking horrific; and Jaco is really over-hyped.
