is there a 4 cyl diesel pick up in the us , i am tired of v6 in my astro its dependable but i just want a change.. plus good mileage i get 10 miles a gal in my van sux...
yea well i cant take all credit. i saw another video that said corolla (i think) and also iv never heard of a camry diesel but i have heard of a corolla diesel.
I bought a 1985 Camry DLX (gas, not deisel) for a mere $500! Only has 117,xxx miles, ran decent when bought. Replaced the plugs, cap, wires, air filter, fuel filter, timing belt, rear/front struts, front tie end rods,. Now it runs like a champ!!! Should last over 300k miles!
Nice to see someone else with one of those! I have an '84 also, and I put a 3C-T in it. The car only has 40K original miles, and has all original paint, etc, and is nice... But the original owner stored the car for 20 years, and failed to replace the timing belt. That's why the replacement engine... Mine gets 45mpg average. Charles (Los Angeles area)
Hey Charles! We've talked before. I bought a radiator from you a couple of years ago for another Camry I had. I sold both of these cars am now working on an Isuzu Trooper diesel.
I bet its more reliable. I had some problems with mine. Nothing really bad execpt it leaking coolent out side the engine. Wasn't really bad but it wasn't going into the engine. I guess someone back then over heated it and warped the head and or busted the head gasket there.
Mercy! Nice sounding diesel! I'm a diesel nut and certified mechanic, and have always liked the VW diesels as well as the hated 5.7N Oldsmobile diesels. I remember the day a lady came to our shop for an oil change for her Chevy Chevette that had the Isuzu diesel. (same engine used in the PUP pickup trucks), but blowing BLACK smoke and had NO power after just having the timing belt replaced! $90 later, it was like a new car with ZERO smoke! (cam out 180 degrees!) LOL
That's a 1C-T engine (1.8 liter). Toyota used its successor, the 2C-T in the US until 1986, and used it through 2000 in the rest of the world. They're still using the 3C-T, I think, except not in the US, of course.
sounds like you use stones for gas

I had the same car but with the gas engine. It got about 25 mpg in city and 30mpg on highway. What does the diesel get?
EdwardPack1988 3 years ago
The diesels usually get at least 40mpg.

carynsstuff 4 years ago
I didn't know that...in fact, I haven't seen any of them on the road where I live; it's all gasoline.
mrceleb2006 4 years ago
There have been no Diesel-powered Camrys sold in North America at all; BTW, can you please beep the horn? It sounds like the Road Runner.
mrceleb2006 4 years ago
Toyota sold the Camry and Corolla with diesel option in the US from 1984 through 1986. Ask any Toyota dealer.
