Most companies that I've heard of pay bonuses when the company is performing well. Salaries are paid whether the company is performing well or not and is considered to be base pay.
I don't know why some AIG employees are getting bonuses when the company as a whole is not performing well.

No Republicans were involved. The pay cap was removed in the House-Senate conference committee. The Democrats did not allow Republican members of the committee to participate, often not even telling them about the meetings in advance.
The final conference committee report bears no G.O.P. signatures. That is not an accident.

Maybe somebody ought to tell this idiot the title of Division B, Title 7 of the stimulus law: "Limits on Executive Compensation."
For senior executives at companies receiving TARP money, the stimulus:
Bans pay incentives if the Treasury determines that they encourage excessive risk.
Bans severance packages,
Restricts bonus pay,
Requires internal review of all pay packages.
At 4:13, he says that he "retains the right to use his own intellect."
Any word on when he plans to start?

You didn't READ the stimulus law, did you? It is so typical of you liberals to criticize things without reading them. Actually far from "keep[ing] their incomes unchecked" the law puts in several restrictions on executive pay, including restrictions on pay incentives, bonus pay and the banning of severance packages. Note that I'm exactly saying that these restrictions are a good idea. I'm just saying that only an ignorant liberal idiot would say that the law puts no checks on executive pay.

Cenk doesn't understand economics. It's temping to seek vengeance against the CEOs of these companies for taking taxpayer money. I agree. However capping the pay of the CEO position at these companies would lead to complete failure in any hopes of them finding a better CEO than the last. Who wants to become an exec at a large company when the position pays shit in comparison to others?
The companies shouldn't have been bailed out in the first place. They and the CEO should've been left to fail.

Any 2-party system is bad. You're giving people a black and white choice, at best, issues you're voting on might be highly separated between the parties, or neither party might actually support your views. (& both get too corrupt)
3-5+ parties is how you have to do it, but unfortunately the founding fathers didn't have the examples of all the free countries in the world to work with (they were borrowing from parliament, ancient Greece, etc) and so made a 2-party framework hoping for 0-parties

That was part of what I was trying to say. They wrote the Constitution with the hope that we wouldn't have political parties, and the resulting framework unfortunately favored a 2-party system. (especially after politicians in the resulting 2-party system started fiddling with election laws)
In the end, political parties seem to be something we're stuck with, setting things up so there can be several major ones is best, since none get too powerful, more ideas are represented, etc.

Most companies that I've heard of pay bonuses when the company is performing well. Salaries are paid whether the company is performing well or not and is considered to be base pay.
I don't know why some AIG employees are getting bonuses when the company as a whole is not performing well.
Perhaps AIG awards bonuses based on each DIVISION'S performance. That would make sense as most of the company's divisions are profitable. Only the one directly involved in trading CDO's is losing money.
