Was never banned in the States. Listened to it with my toddlers in '88-90, and they memorized the words! (We were kind of weird). They liked the Beatles too. Just wanted to set the moron who said it was banned straight.
@lamphorn A song with the DeCSS source code encoded within it or any code protected by the DMCA is illegal in the USA according to the American "justice" system.
It is not a patriotic act to not question the Patriot Act. Don't just believe that America is free just because you are told it is, the struggle for our rights is an ongoing struggle.
@Furrrrsjer44 You are all kinds of wrong here. Songs are NOT banned in the USA.
DeCSS is NOT a protection source code. DeCSS is the software made by programmers that unlocks a DVD's copy protection code.
The DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) is a United States copyright law. It does not ban songs from the US. It bans the hacking of any copy protection codes (namely DRM) that prevents the copying of media and reselling it (or freely sharing it).
@Furrrrsjer44 However, I do agree large corporations lobbying the government, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for one, are trying to limit US freedoms (like trying to make it illegal to rip a song off a CD you already bought onto an ipod. They want you to purchase the song again from itunes to be allowed to use it on your ipod) .
This is not only a US problem though, The EU is working closely with the US to treat "illegal" copied music and movies like drugs and weapons.
@Furrrrsjer44 The EU is working along with Obama are trying to make airports search for illegally copied music/movies just as they would search for weapons. Talk about a waste of security resources!!
Why pay attention to the guy chanting Alla Ackbar lighting matches to his shoes when we have a 19 year old college girl with a few dozen copied songs in her ipod. Talk about governments being in the pockets of corporations.
keepitreallol: The USA can't stop the internet. Even Sony Entertainment has trouble doing that. As far as 'they' goes, George W. is no longer in office.
@djbrown19 The USA invented the internet. Why would we want to stop it? It's China and Pakistan and other authoritarian regimes that try to censor it and wish it didn't exist.

@laenzdaniel I agree and it's no secret he was covered by many names in the history of rock. R.E.M. made a convincing version of this gem.
