  • There's a slot car place near where I live where they have an old school arcade and a HUGE slot car track. I don't know what's better playing ms. pacman with the option of speedup or not, or racing on a giant slot car track!

  • Dodge Em is another game for the Atari 2600 that is like this game except better gameplay and graphics.

  • My parents got married the same year this was released. Cool.

  • I hope this game had an x-rating.

    Look at those... cars?

And what exactly are the shooting?

  • Slot racers is really fun.

  • "Charlie don't surf!" - TXH1138

  • idk. the stages look like one of the enemies from space invaders. Does anybody think that or is it just me?

  • Finally dusted off the old Atari26 and found this game. The one we had was called "Maze". I knew it went by a different name. Exact same game play.

  • I was born in 78. Dad was in his 40's Mom 30's

  • This game's as old as I am? 0_o

  • cock warz

  • I love slot racers!

  • cartridge looks awesome the "slot cars" look nothing like slot cars, they actually end up looking like a awkard d*** shooting. so the basis of the game, don't get hit by the other guys blocked up money shot.

  • my mom was 4 and my dad was 5

  • I have this game just played a few weeks ago

  • i hate this games the screen of cartridge is more amazing

  • I remember having this game. It had the exact game play but it wasnt called "Slot Racers". I think it was called "Gangsters", but that was a completely different game. Looks like it might have been messed with of a flawed product.

  • @Mastermind8908........I remember having this same game too with a different name on the cartidge, Maybe it was Gangsters, cant remember.

  • I used to play the HELL outta this game when I was really young.

  • Atari 2600 was out in 1978??? I remember playing Atari but it was between 1980 - 1984ish.

  • @hootyhaha it came out first in early mid 70s. and the magnavox oddessy 1 aka brown box came out early 70s

  • Meh, this was okay.

  • more like slut racers with the dicks shooting crap at other dicks

  • my mom was 18 and my dad was 14

  • The original mario cart.

  • If only real slot racers had guns....

  • condoms!

  • I've played a good bit of slot racers with my roommate. The simple gameplay and such is mildly entertaining.

Course, when we're talking the really old 2 player Atari 2600 games I love Video Olympics. Ok, it's just a rip off on Pong, but it's fun when you have two really good players.

  • lool those dont look like trucks they look like dicks

  • Well, I had an Atari in the late 70' - I was about 7 years old - and _everyone_ with a 2600 had Outlaw, Space Invaders, air-sea-battle and slot racers.

These games were among the first - and they were all time stars... Even my son nowadays loves to play them |-D

  • Slick looking cars on the front art of the game

  • It's OLD oldschool!

  • My folks were already married for 2 years in 78.

  • My folks were married 19 years in 78.

  • My dad was I think just getting into High School, and my mother was somewhere in Junior High and neither o my parents were even in the same country at the time.

Although it wouldn't been for me I don't think either of my parents were concerned about getting this game in 77', or 78'.

    I would've been though.

I guess they were just busy doing other 70's stuff.

    Like watching Rockford Files.

  • The Rockford Files kicks ass!

  • slot cars are a legendary cars

  • WOW 1978! O_o the atari 2600 must have one of the longest lifespans of all consoles ever. i mean now a days a console lasts maybe 5 years if you are lucky

  • ya i have a xbox and i had to take the whole thing apart cuz the ports wouldnt work

and my orginal ps2's disk drive doesnt work

  • lol thats what i mean ^^ yes i know one who had the same problem with his ps2 drive. its no good quality compared to my snes for example ^^ it works perfectly fine since 1992

  • who drove the yellow car? ;-)

  • Wow, so old, but it looks kinda fun. And yes, I remember Slot Cars. Back when I was a kid, I had 2. One was called Disaster City and involved these awesome looking oversized Mad Max style Taxi Cabs around this big destroyed city and this big building in the middle. First to get 12 laps opens the way to crash into the building and win the race. The other was, to me, the best of the two. The Haunted Highway. I don't need to say anything, just search for the "Haunted Highway slot car track" on YT.

  • I don't understand how the driving works in this game...

  • Prior to Space Invaders (1980), Atari games were really crappy. And nobody cared because it was the 70s and people had bad taste back then (i.e. disco). They were just amazed to see controllable "things" on their woodgrain televisions. "Wow... my square moves and I control it." "Yeah totally radical."

Anyway this game has the amazing ability to display two sprites! i.e Your car and the other guy's car. Amazing.

  • actually, showing two sprites is pretty easy,if you knew about atari programming.

  • you can display 10 sprites by flashing 1 sprite in defferent positions in the game loop.....

  • Yeah, but it causes flicker when they cross horizontally, or whatever. Depends on how you program it.

  • I'm 34, this brings back a lot of memories. I never owned it, but they could have called this game anything if you think about it. Cool stuff. Thanks....

  • Great review! And another game I was inspired to buy. :)

  • remember those slot car trax that had magnets so ur car could do loop de loop..they were cool.. but i liked my phillip island scalectrix track best..

  • yea, philips was awesome, until they released a monster with 3 letters and a dash. C. D. -. I

  • well dont start me on that,, but yeh,, phillip islsnd is a well known race track here in australia, popular mostly for the moterbikes. But yeh,, cant aggree with you enough on the CDI, i lived next door to a poor sod who had one.. WAs AWFUL!!. Go sega and Atari when it comes to retro consoles...imo

  • Yeah the cover art is amazing and then what the hell is up with the graphics? haha drinking beer and playing Slot Racers and Guitar Hero, what a contrast :D Sounds like a good party.

  • Yep, I had they tyco slotcar tracks and loved it!

  • looks like a modified combat

atari was always know for cool looking game covers, but ussaly games was never as good as the pic

i am 33 so this brings back the good old days, back when atari, coleco, activison and vetrex were the game systems

  • me and my cousin used to play the shit out of this pile of shit..it fun back then!

  • the cover looks so awesome and then in-game you have pixellated condoms moving around blocks shooting squares at each other. ahh, those were the days!

  • For a game called Slot Racers theres not all that much racing going on ^_^

Very close to "Combat" as well, I wonder if it was supposed to be a sequel at one point?

  • THAT is a car? I had NO idea.

  • It's one of those cars from drag racing - you know with the big rear tires, and the supernarrow body.

  • Good to see you guys are getting some time in with the wood grain these days.
