Nice tones! I am wondering if I should get this four strings or five strings. I am a funk and rock player who does jazz as well. I wonder if I would ever end up using the low B though. Please give me suggestions.
@SmileElectric7 Thanks. I love the GK head. I have been gigging with it for about three years now and it still sounds great... However when it comes to my tone I do give my Ampeg cab alot of credit as well. I actually play a Bongo 5H now and I think it sounds even better!
Hey man! Sounds great! Im looking into the GK RB series.. I play a stingray 5 overall hows the amp workin for you? Your tone is excellent just wondering how they hold up overtime
@SmileElectric7 I can help you, if you are still working. I play a GK 1001rb and I'll tell you that you will never regret buying an RB. I haven't had any trouble, and I've had it for a year, and I bought it used. I have a music man sub bass (kind of a budget stingray) and I get sounds I love.
This is a moment, where at the end of him playing, he gives you the bass and you look at it thinking... ' What the fuck did he just do to you?! :O '. Then you try it and break your hand.
@dasgre0g I'm pretty sure it is the Lava Pearl. I know what you mean though...I am trying to move up to a 5 string right now and I wish I could get a Bongo 5, but I just don't have the money. I am going to have to sell this and settle for something cheaper and it is killing me to have to part with it. I will miss this bass sooooo much.
@JefferyWhiganshire Man I've got Spector Euro 5LX and it's great bass! For me it's a little harder to play, cause I have very long fingers and Spector's body is too small, no problem with Bongo though. Sound of Spector is unbeatable, really universal for any music style. But for Bongo it's the same, great sounding bass..if I've had money,I'd go for both :))
@JefferyWhiganshire Hi, I played both two. I had the same difficulty on choosing one from both two as yours now. both have very good slapping tone and low action. personally, spector euro for me is a little bit aggressive and the string is too close to the edge of finger board (closer than bongo). This may be uncomfortable when you play your bass. :) but It is really hard to say which is better according to tone for their wide range of tone controlling.
Really nice tone and your rhythm is quite steady. I played some Bongos at NAMM this year so I've been checking out lots of Bongo videos and so far yours takes the cake on both of those counts. On many I wouldn't have even guessed they were playing a MusicMan instrument tonewise. I'm coming from the perspective of owning a Stingray 5 HH. Which I bought for both the "feel" as an instrument and immediacy with which you can get amazing "funk and soul" tones on it.
HELP>>hey i have the opportunity to buy a JBP Artist Bass. are they any good im not sure on the topic, i want to get in to slap. if anyone can help me that would be awesome thanx. scott P.S ur aweosme at bass man
@RonnyOnBass It's a GK 700RB-II . It's okay, nothing great, but I have no major complaints. If I could do it again, I would have spent the extra money and bought the 1001 RB-II. The problem is that I got such a great deal at Guitar Center on this one, I think I paid like $425 + tax new.
@NatePlaysMM I heard some guys on talkbass.com say that they actually liked the sound of the 700 better than the 1001. Hmmm... I think I'm leaning toward the SWR Working Pro 700. But you did get a good deal for that!
@monro123456789 Nah...I wouldn't even know where to start if I tried to tab this out. There are too many percussive notes. The best thing to do is try and play it by ear. You might not get it exactly the way I recorded it...but who knows, maybe you will come up with something more bad ass in the process!
How do you enjoy the marriage of a GK head an an Ampeg Cab? I own a GK 700 rb-ii and am thinking of purchasing a gk 212neo or a SVT-610 HLF. What's ur experience?
Thanks. To answer your question I will say that I absolutely love the tone I get from this cab. I played this head through a GK rig and would take the depth and warmth of this cab over GK any day. On the other hand, after about two years of use, the speakers are crapping out on me and as I do the research it seems to be a common problem.
Can you explain to me a little bit on how you make so much hot percussion? Are you just constantly slapping your thumb on the strings to make that percussive sound constantly happen?
Killer. The Bongo 5 and the Ibanez SR 506 are the only 2 basses I ever use anymore...the sound they produce covers everything imagineable... When I picked up the Bongo it was the first time I ever put down a Carvin...
I'm not really sure. I know that they have a new color called "candy red" but I don't think this is that finish. In natural light this bass has almost an orange hue to it as you can tell. I recently played a gig under a very big lighting rig and it was amazingly bright red under them...it almost changed colors (it was very odd) and I had some great complements on it.
I've had this bass for about 8 months and probably restrung about 6 times with the Ernie Ball strings...I think they sound great....but I have had several people ask me if they are Ken Smith's. I will have to try some of those out and compare the two.
No, you prob. can't tell from the vid., but the back two knobs actually have two knobs stacked on top of each other. The very back having a bass knob, and a separate treble knob on top, the second having a hi-mid on top of a low mid, the third is a single knob used to balance the front/rear pickups and the fourth knob is volume.
Thanks you. EVERYTHING is pretty much balanced out in the middle. The EQ on the amp - about 12 o'clock. with the bass turned up to about 2 o'clock. The guitar is pretty much the same, everything zero'd out. I turn the treble knob up a tad bit to pick up the percussive slap tone and that's about it. I blend the pickups the same....just a little more of the neck pickup, but not very much at all. Even though it does offer a wide variety of tones, the factory tone matches my music the best.
It's a 700RB. I think it puts out around 500 watts. I have been very pleased with the sound that comes out of it, but wish I went bigger. I get drowned out when I play with my 5 piece group. I've learned that you can never have enough power in a bass amp. I wish I went with something over a thousand watts....live and learn.
This bass creates some pretty cool slap sounds, but not quite a Fender Jazz tone. There are lots of good slap basses out there, but it does seem like Fender Jazz is one of the most popular used in funk....I will add one to the collection one day for sure.
It's definitely a good bass. I've played a Stingray 5 string for a few years now, and don't plan on switching brands anytime soon.
