  • Nice tones! I am wondering if I should get this four strings or five strings. I am a funk and rock player who does jazz as well. I wonder if I would ever end up using the low B though. Please give me suggestions.

  • still cant decide if bongo basses are ugly or some of the coolest ive seen

  • It's not orange color bass, but it white burns with you slap

  • @SmileElectric7 Thanks. I love the GK head. I have been gigging with it for about three years now and it still sounds great... However when it comes to my tone I do give my Ampeg cab alot of credit as well. I actually play a Bongo 5H now and I think it sounds even better!

  • Hey man! Sounds great! Im looking into the GK RB series.. I play a stingray 5 overall hows the amp workin for you? Your tone is excellent just wondering how they hold up overtime

  • @SmileElectric7 I can help you, if you are still working. I play a GK 1001rb and I'll tell you that you will never regret buying an RB. I haven't had any trouble, and I've had it for a year, and I bought it used. I have a music man sub bass (kind of a budget stingray) and I get sounds I love.

  • He slaps bass better than an Italian husband.

  • mui bien

  • I'm wanting a copy of Dave LaRue's Bongo5 in Blue Dawn sparkle burst. :(

  • This is a moment, where at the end of him playing, he gives you the bass and you look at it thinking... ' What the fuck did he just do to you?! :O '. Then you try it and break your hand.

  • Good stuff

  • nice

  • Holy crap.....Nuff Said.

  • god dam! I may be showing my ignorance, but that was chuffing amazing bass. Christ almighty I could listen to that all day long!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is this the classic Lava Pearl color? I just sold my Bongo 5 in lava pearl. Biggest regret I have of the past 2 years. I am going to go cry now

  • @dasgre0g I'm pretty sure it is the Lava Pearl. I know what you mean though...I am trying to move up to a 5 string right now and I wish I could get a Bongo 5, but I just don't have the money. I am going to have to sell this and settle for something cheaper and it is killing me to have to part with it. I will miss this bass sooooo much.

  • @NatePlaysMM Sell your foot instead

  • Funked it to pieces, sir.

  • Nice work :)

  • awesome tone

  • Is this porn?

  • Got a dilema. Getting a new bass soon, and I can't decide between a Musicman Bongo and a Spector Euro 4LX Classic. Any suggestions?

  • @JefferyWhiganshire I've never played a Spector, but I've been looking into one myself.

  • @JefferyWhiganshire Man I've got Spector Euro 5LX and it's great bass! For me it's a little harder to play, cause I have very long fingers and Spector's body is too small, no problem with Bongo though. Sound of Spector is unbeatable, really universal for any music style. But for Bongo it's the same, great sounding bass..if I've had money,I'd go for both :))

  • @JefferyWhiganshire Hi, I played both two. I had the same difficulty on choosing one from both two as yours now. both have very good slapping tone and low action. personally, spector euro for me is a little bit aggressive and the string is too close to the edge of finger board (closer than bongo). This may be uncomfortable when you play your bass. :) but It is really hard to say which is better according to tone for their wide range of tone controlling.

  • Really nice tone and your rhythm is quite steady. I played some Bongos at NAMM this year so I've been checking out lots of Bongo videos and so far yours takes the cake on both of those counts. On many I wouldn't have even guessed they were playing a MusicMan instrument tonewise. I'm coming from the perspective of owning a Stingray 5 HH. Which I bought for both the "feel" as an instrument and immediacy with which you can get amazing "funk and soul" tones on it.

  • HELP>>hey i have the opportunity to buy a JBP Artist Bass. are they any good im not sure on the topic, i want to get in to slap. if anyone can help me that would be awesome thanx. scott P.S ur aweosme at bass man

  • I have the Fusion 550, slap sounds nice though that one :)

  • genial amigo saludos desde peru!

  • Very nice, serious sound!!

  • What model GK is that you have and are you happy with it?

  • @RonnyOnBass It's a GK 700RB-II . It's okay, nothing great, but I have no major complaints. If I could do it again, I would have spent the extra money and bought the 1001 RB-II. The problem is that I got such a great deal at Guitar Center on this one, I think I paid like $425 + tax new.

  • @NatePlaysMM I heard some guys on talkbass.com say that they actually liked the sound of the 700 better than the 1001. Hmmm... I think I'm leaning toward the SWR Working Pro 700. But you did get a good deal for that!

  • @TheBadAssKiller That SWR WP700 is pretty sweet too! I knew an amazing bass player in my area who played one and it sounded pretty good.

  • is it hard to slap your bongo when it has the neck pickup? doesnt it get in your way?

  • @bassplayer1494 Nope

  • Nice!

  • i like your unusual style of music, very well done cant wait for my 5 string peavey millenium.

  • that neodymium magnets kill some sustain?

  • that was just great!

  • omg dude you are so f**king awesome!

  • amazing!

  • genius!!

  • which is better, bongo or stingray?

  • @NubeSlayer507 They both have their pros/cons. I will own a Stingray one day.

  • sounds great, love the tone!

  • smile dude

  • duudddeee how much is a cheap one? this is so sick

  • 8 people play the Guitar.

  • @Extermination55

AHHAHAHAHHAHA THAT'S HILARIOUS, BECAUSE 8 PEOPLE DISLIKED THIS VIDEO RIGHT?! I GET IT, AHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.

    HAHAHAH.

    GENIUS.

  • to hell with the 7 people who disliked

  • it sounds great. i have 2 gk cabs and im lookin for a nice gk head to compliment them because i cant afford a ampeg

  • Comment removed

  • @bassplayer1494 GK 700 RB II

  • great

  • You deserve that bongo

  • LOVE THE SOUND

  • awesome dude, thumbs up

  • Take it your another Nathan with a Musicman. Thumbs up!

Not a bad riff too! :D

  • This is sound of bass which I dream about!

  • This is sound of bass which I dream about!

  • And I jizzed, in, my pants.

  • haha how do you can combine an ampeg with a G&K? :D:D beginner

  • @teebeuteltime Talk alot of shit for someone who hasnt put up any videos.. I bet your subpar compared to alot of players...

  • wow your awsome how long have you played?

  • @TheThelittlebassist Probably about 6 or 7 years...it's hard to tell since I've been so off and on with playing.

  • @NatePlaysMM oohhh.so Im still young in playing bass(1/2 yrs).more years to practice and be excellent like you.

  • nice sound mate.BUT the bongo is just so ugly...

  • @RIDGEBACK890 I have to disagree. I think the Bongo Bass if beautiful

  • u make me learn bass guitar!!!

  • maravilha..... muito bom mesmo!!!

  • exellent

  • Rooooooooockin!

  • God :D Loved it

  • very respect!!

  • wow the main riff is unreal

  • hi loving the bass and the skill you got. just wondering if there is any chance of any tabs for the riffs?

  • @monro123456789 Nah...I wouldn't even know where to start if I tried to tab this out. There are too many percussive notes. The best thing to do is try and play it by ear. You might not get it exactly the way I recorded it...but who knows, maybe you will come up with something more bad ass in the process!

  • @NatePlaysMM I just spooged over my keyboard!

  • Sweetness!

  • where did you learn this?

  • @rockyroeba It's a composition of a few original riffs in E that I grouped together

  • man paul mccartney got pretty good lol....but i thought he was a lefty lol....

  • Amazing! Great work, thank you for sharing!

  • every band need a bass player like him

  • I like the 0:19 low-register tune =)

  • Dude you play awsome. where did buy that bass it looks and sounds awsome?

  • Music man BONGO 4 string

  • sounds awesome!!! what kind of bass is that??

  • Hey Nate.

    Nice job dude, great sounding.

How do you enjoy the marriage of a GK head an an Ampeg Cab? I own a GK 700 rb-ii and am thinking of purchasing a gk 212neo or a SVT-610 HLF. What's ur experience?

    Txs for all comments...

  • Thanks. To answer your question I will say that I absolutely love the tone I get from this cab. I played this head through a GK rig and would take the depth and warmth of this cab over GK any day. On the other hand, after about two years of use, the speakers are crapping out on me and as I do the research it seems to be a common problem.

  • my 3 favorite brands of bass equipment: musicman ampeg galien kreuger

  • awesome playing dude!!!

  • fuck

  • How do these sound played with a pick?

  • I don't know, I've never used one. There was a vid on here of a guy playing one with a pick, but I can't find it now.

  • @NatePlaysMM

    watch?v=2Wd7QWMBle0

That's the video of Dave Marks playing it pick style. Love how I find these things 2 months later.

  • @Tooltrocity Thanks for the heads up on that! Dave Marks rocks

  • Can you explain to me a little bit on how you make so much hot percussion? Are you just constantly slapping your thumb on the strings to make that percussive sound constantly happen?

  • Yes, that is pretty much all I'm doing...both with the thumb and ghost note popping with my index finger to fill in the space between played notes.

  • THIS ROCKS !!

  • nice use of open strings. killer bass. it sounds clean but you can get some really grindy mid tones out of it

  • Mind = blown

  • nice playing dude you got that shit down!

  • Musicman + Ampeg = complete destruction

  • correction, Musicman + Mesa/Boogie = complete destruction

  • Holy shit!.....That is the sickest bass tone I've heard in a while.............

  • i am interesting to get the same bass man, but let me know which one is better, thi or stingray?

  • They both rock! I'd try the two out before you make your purchase and run all of the different tones to find which one matches your needs.

  • aw yeah

  • Killer. The Bongo 5 and the Ibanez SR 506 are the only 2 basses I ever use anymore...the sound they produce covers everything imagineable... When I picked up the Bongo it was the first time I ever put down a Carvin...

  • I like.

  • EVERY TIME I HERE HIM SLAP ON THIS BASS ITS LIKE HAVING A MINI ORGASIM :|-| props dude

  • this just made me respect bass a little more. two thumbs up :)

  • thats how you slap uh duh bass mon

  • Yeah, nice colour match between the white pick guard and orange body.

  • do you know how the colour is called officially?

    it looks beautiful!

  • I'm not really sure. I know that they have a new color called "candy red" but I don't think this is that finish. In natural light this bass has almost an orange hue to it as you can tell. I recently played a gig under a very big lighting rig and it was amazingly bright red under them...it almost changed colors (it was very odd) and I had some great complements on it.

  • i dont think its that "candy red"

its not "radiance red" or desert gold", maybe something special

jeah, it looks just perfect, a Bongo has to be red/orange or green!

    thank you anyway

  • i think it's the orange firemist color

  • what amp are you using? are those Ken Smith strings? sound great

  • The amp info is in the description of the video. The strings are Ernie Ball (Super Slinky Bass #2834).

  • I've had this bass for about 8 months and probably restrung about 6 times with the Ernie Ball strings...I think they sound great....but I have had several people ask me if they are Ken Smith's. I will have to try some of those out and compare the two.

  • thanks nice

  • Orange Firemist?

  • wow incredible

  • sick groove!

  • Very nice bass, and very good player!

  • everybody who owns a musicman bongo seems to be an awesome player. then again when you spend that kinda money your probably dedicated!

  • that was excellent!

  • Dude you look like Paul McCartney!!

Pity he can't play like you!

  • Is the Bongo a 4 or a 3 Bands EQ?

    Nice Vid Btw

  • It's a 4 Band

  • 3 band and 1 master volume, I guess

  • No, you prob. can't tell from the vid., but the back two knobs actually have two knobs stacked on top of each other. The very back having a bass knob, and a separate treble knob on top, the second having a hi-mid on top of a low mid, the third is a single knob used to balance the front/rear pickups and the fourth knob is volume.

  • Great vid! What are the EQ settings here? In what way did you blend the two pickups? Thanks

  • Thanks you. EVERYTHING is pretty much balanced out in the middle. The EQ on the amp - about 12 o'clock. with the bass turned up to about 2 o'clock. The guitar is pretty much the same, everything zero'd out. I turn the treble knob up a tad bit to pick up the percussive slap tone and that's about it. I blend the pickups the same....just a little more of the neck pickup, but not very much at all. Even though it does offer a wide variety of tones, the factory tone matches my music the best.

  • 0: 20 ~ 0: 32 my favorite =D

  • what model GK head is that?

  • It's a 700RB. I think it puts out around 500 watts. I have been very pleased with the sound that comes out of it, but wish I went bigger. I get drowned out when I play with my 5 piece group. I've learned that you can never have enough power in a bass amp. I wish I went with something over a thousand watts....live and learn.

  • bass shred

  • beautiful bass and great technique! good job

  • Wow, great sound!!! I thought the Fender Jazz was the only one U could get that Slap Bass Funk sound from. Incredible...

  • This bass creates some pretty cool slap sounds, but not quite a Fender Jazz tone. There are lots of good slap basses out there, but it does seem like Fender Jazz is one of the most popular used in funk....I will add one to the collection one day for sure.

  • The music man is the KING of slap!

  • Top shelf, that was incredible.

  • Niiccce!! Totally dug that man, very cool :)

  • Wow, great sound and I've never seen one that was quite as beautiful as that. Definitely an amazing tool for an artist such as yourself. 5*

  • i love your bass man. my next bass is gonna be a musicman bongo!!

  • wow nice playing!

  • It's definitely a good bass. I've played a Stingray 5 string for a few years now, and don't plan on switching brands anytime soon. Guitar Center surprisingly had a Bongo in the bass room, and I had the pleasure of playing for about 10 minutes. The GC in Knoxville has an amazing ability to make a great instrument play like crap with their bad strings and poor upkeep, but it was amazing. Will probably be the next bass I pick up.

  • are they good basses?

  • I like to think they are...I guess it really depends on what type of sound you are looking to achieve. Everyone has their own opinions about what sounds "good" and what a "good bass" really is. It is not a $4,000 Modulus with a carbon fiber neck, but it is definitely a high quality bass.

  • thANks :) oh and your frekin good

  • great sound

  • Nice sound:). I'm play on slap but now i looking a good bass for it. So meaby I buy bongo??

  • Wow, great playing and awesome tone.

  • SEX

  • OMFG, its awesome!!!

  • wicked!!!

  • freakin nice man!!

  • Nice sound! Love the bass.
