Hey...the instrument cluster lights on my 99 ford explorer are starting to go out and I want to replace them with red ones...any idea of how many I will need to buy in order to have all the cluster lights be red?
Hey guys just a heads up you'll need to go with a 5 smd bulb. I've gone through and installed the single led that look like a bulb and it isn't bright enough. If you have the patience to wait order them from china. I got 10 of them for 7 bucks. They sell the sand style in the us but with ridiculous prices. So just go to eBay and search 5 smd or t10. You'll see a large variety some with 10 + smd but it won't clear. Also use a o ring on the socket because for some reason if it's fully seated it w
I'm trying to do this same mod, but not sure which LEDs to go with, you say they're the 5 sided SMDs? I got some regular bulb style LEDs and some flat top ones with 10 tiny SMDs, pretty sure I'm gonna have hotspots, so just tryin to narrow down the exact type LEDs to alleviate this.
What's the beam pattern on those bulbs (120 degree, 360 degree, etc.)? The ones I'm getting for my '98 Mercury Mountaineer are 360 degrees and I'm just trying to figure out whether or not 360 degree beam bulbs are necessary or not since yours look so good.
@baxgordum I actually found a video here on youtube about how to replace the gauge lights. Let me know if you want the link and I'll send you a message with it in it. I'll be replacing mine with red LED's come May.
