You can also do this in the food processor... in about 4 minutes. Once the buttermilk separates salt the crap out of (a lot of the salt will go out with the buttermilk.) Unless you want to save the buttermilk - then salt after separation.

You also need to learn to "paddle" the butter so it doesn't turn rancid from having too much milk and water left in it. This video sucks for instructions, I'll look for better.
Use a stand mixer like a Kitchenaid, it's a lot easier, just put the speed on slow and use the paddle mixer. You also can't use Ultra-Pasteurized cream. Well, you can, but the high heat they use to make it "Ultra-Pasteurized" makes the butter taste scalded, best to go buy raw cream from a dairy.
