  • darn that dream!!!!

  • Beautiful playing. I'm sure you'd make any model guitar shine.

  • there is a used one of these for sale locally. This one is a Korean made model from the 1990s. I have Epi Korean made Sheraton II that I got cheap and put a little money into and it is an excellent player. I was thinking the Locally available Emorer might be a good companion. What do you think is a fair price? It has a floating mini humbucker in the neck.

  • @rsaathoff I personally like having a thin-line AND a bigger jazzbox. I usually always bring both of my "main"-guitars to a gig.. so I'd say yes, the Emperor could be a nice companion for your sheraton! But keep in mind, that it's pretty sensitive to feedback!

As for the price of a ~15years old korean one... I wouldn't pay much more than 250-300$, since the new ones are listed for ~499$, i think.

  • this guitar sounds great !!!!

  • What lovely playing! And what a wonderful acoustic tone you get out of the EmpReg. Plus your mods made an already good-looking guitar really gorgeous. You inspire me to de-electrify my own--and practice more!

What did you change besides the Benedetto tailpiece and the roundwound 14s? You mentioned the bridge: did you go for ebony there as well, in place of the standard rosewood?

BTW, I recognized Darn That Dream and I Thought About You, but what is that beguiling 2nd tune?

  • @Amileoj Thank you for all the nice words :-) Actually this is the 2nd mod I did... the first one included the ebony tailpiece, ebony bridge, ebony fingerrest and a S-6 floating PU.

  • I then chose to get rid of the fingerrest and pickup again, since i play this guitar just for practising purposes.

The second tune is called "Like Someon In Love". You should dig Coltrane's version!

  • btw... sorry for the late answers, i was very busy the last weeks and was traveling much.. :-/

  • what kind of strings are you playing on?

  • @costellomj for the video i think i used tomastik george benson. at the moment i'm using galli black nylon strings on nearly all of my guitars... i just love 'em at the moment :-)

  • Wow!! just WOW!!

  • Amazing! Can you give me this arrangement? i liked...

  • Fabulous playing sir! That guitar is lovely, I may end up getting one for school (assuming I get into one of the jazz groups of course). Did you by chance give the electronics a try?

  • @ZepIV Thank you, for your kind words, sir! :-) The Emperor Regent was my first ever Jazz Guitar, so yeah, I used the electronics a lot... but i didn't really like the pickup, that's coming with the guitar... I would recommend switching it to a benedetto s-6 pickup, one of the greatest floating PU's i've heard/plaied so far.

  • I have never heard such beautiful tone from a guitar. That Epiphone sounds amazing with that tailpiece, not to mention, you are brilliant! I was just browsing looking at the model of guitar when I found this. I imagine the wood of the tailpiece probably accents the tone.

  • Great sound. Diggin the Martin Taylor. How did you record the guitar for this?

  • @MobileVortex Thanks :-) I used a condenser mic only, you can see the top part of it between my leg and the table ;-)

  • is this guitar good for blues or rock?

  • @ox092 the non-modded version (which has a floating pick) is great for jazzy blues tunes but it's not made for any sort of distortion, so for SRV-style Blues or any sort of Rock I would recommend a solid body or at least thinline guitar. Those big Jazz-Boxes would produce way too much feedback...

  • Without the pickguard, how do you adjust the tone and volume?

  • @RichardVanWagner without a pickup, you don't need tone and volume

  • @EpiphoneArchtopLover Oh wow, I didn't even notice. Either way, you're fantastic and inspiring.

  • Hey man, awesome playing!!! Did you make the bridge yourself or did you get it from someone else?

  • DUH...of course it's a Regent. I'll read the title next time.

  • Words can't describe how much I enjoyed this video. Your smooth playing complemented by birds singing is a hypnotic combination! VERY COOL. So, is that an Emperor Regent you're playing? Sounds great.

  • @4eyed4stringer And words also can't describe how good it feels to get to hear such words :-)

Actually I do get asked about the birds singing on this record pretty often... It is real, but I doubt they're singing for me.. At least they're not flying away seized in panic ;-)

  • This sounds great. I put .012 flatwounds on mine beause beides Jazz I play the blues too. This is my favorite axe Jake Rogers Atlanta GA.

  • @guitarjrogers Greetings to Atlanta and thanks for your comment :) I used flats on it when I still plaied it amplified. Acoustically the roundwounds have a fuller sound imo. But on my Hofner I only use flats :)

  • @SirAkuzVideo Thank you, Sir! ;) I really love the sound of it acoustically, though I have to admit, that the sound has changed quite a bit with the new bridge/tailpiece and .14s strings.

But hey, it was my first ever Archtop and I dont want it to lie around and get dusty ;)

    Thanks again,

    Schumi

  • Lovely playing for sure. Made me think about how good is Regent for his price again. Please post more videos. I like your style. Good luck,

    B.

  • @Praclik22 I think it was one of the greatest guitars in that pricerange before the new Hofner series was announced. But I still love it :) I may be getting one of those in the near future... will definitely make a video about it once I have it!

    Thanks for your kind words!

    Schumi

  • Hi,

Love the peaceful tone and your great performance. What strings do you have on in this video?

  • @25i Hey there,

thanks for the kind words :-) I have Thomastik Bebop 14s on it. They produce a great full sound for acoustic play... the only thing I don't like about them is the typical noises because of the roundwounding.

  • @cytexX

I've never tried a set of Thomastiks. Your demo has definitely pushed me over the fence to try them out!

I keep coming back to have a listen. Looking forward to more uploads in the future!

  • @25i You should definitely check them out, if you haven't already. I use 14s thomastik roundwound on my EmpReg and a custom set of thomastik flatwounds on my Höfner John Stowell. Another great manufacturer you could check out would be Pyramid strings, they have an all strings flatwound set which is nice, but kinda pricey...
