everybody seems to think he invented this style. don't get me wrong he's amazing!! but what about Michael Hedges and Preston reed? they were more the forefathers weren't they?
We used to see him every year at "Music Live" at the NEC - he'd regularly chat with my sister with a little running joke of him tryin to get her to "fetch a cup of tea for a poor old man" - quite a character and a truly unique talent.
I've got that book, I don't think anyone could play this anything like eric though because he is just so unique, we can merely take his inspiration and try to create something only half as good, this is the kind of thing that only the person who wrote it can play it how it should be played
I was lucky enough to see Eric live. He kept apologising for 'not being upto par' on his playing due to his treatment. He was phenominal and he still left everyone open mouthed and also was a really funny, nice guy. A real inspiration!
OMG Antoine Dufour GOT TO LOVE THIS BEING TOO. FANTASTICAL. The Drumming sending me ascending to higher plaines. He is amazing. LOVE to my Angel for sharing these gems with me. <3
what a musician the best thank you eric for making a difference in peoples lives and making people happy you are a true legend rest in peace your memory lives on... hope your rocking them up in heaven god bless you............
I notice that he has three cables coming out of his guitar. Is it that he needs the extra pickups to capture all the percussive stuff properly? And maybe get the relative volumes correct for each section, so that the "drums" aren't too loud or soft compared to the other parts...
You had to see Eric live it was amazing I met him several years ago he was such a nice guy sympathetic I was gutted when he died a lovely man another great talent gone!
What the hell, he's dead??? I was taught by this guy at LMS in Wapping about 5 or so years ago. I can't believe he's dead, he was a great inspiration to all who were taught guitar whilst had the pleasure of working with him.
only just heard of this guy, and hes dead!? hes such a talented guitar player. how famous did he get before he died? such a waste. he doesnt look that old.
Arrowhead is a fabulous tune by Michael. I was fortunate enough to see him debut Arrowhead, Java Man, and Shell Shock Venus at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco just two months before his death. He seemed to be introducing his audience to a lot of material that would appear on his next album "Torched". This is the first I've heard of Eric, but I am definitely going to check out more. It's too bad that we seem to lose the good ones early.
I remember seeing eric live in concert and this song particularly stood out for me. Apparently when he took his driving test in Ireland all you had to do to pass was a hill start and a 3 point turn...his liscence was under EU regulations so apparently could be used in any European country. Upon arriving in England he encountered a roundabout for the first time. He joked that he had to camp in the middle of the roundabout for a number of days before he could figure it out. hence the song name.
what an awesome man, saw him about 5 years ago at Music Live, my first introduction to this style, sadly no longer with us but would like to think he'd be proud of his pupil Newton Faulkner bringing percussive playing into the limelight, who Eric taught at ACM in about 2004

The best finger-style guitarist of all time.
Died at the age of 38 from throat cancer.
And he didn't deserve it.
He was one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet.
