there's been two years since Vic Chesnutt has been gone, and i still cant believe that we lost a genius like that. People like Vic shoulda live forever.
I am unable to express how much this performance amazes me. This is the best live music video I've seen on youtube thus far. It's so dark, brutal, honestly emotional, crazy, epic, poetic - just intense in every way. I've watched this a dozen times now and still I sit here like hypnotized anytime I play it. What gives it a sad note is that this guy killed himself a month later. He must have already made that decision - still he entertains his audience with and without music.
hey,42goatee,rock and roll is not about being clean, man.and there's no need to be a cynical asshole('trott').shave and go home.vic was a poet, one of the great ones, and this is the deepest performance i have ever seen or heard.rock in peace!
Did they play "You are never alone" at this concert? If so please post it. Post more Vic. I think he never sounded better than when he played with Silver Mt Zion and Piccioto.
Vic had an uncanny ability to expose, or more accurately, make you see the darker side of life, and he did so in a very beautiful way. There is an unexplained common bond between the best artists and despair. Listening to Vic is very bittersweet, because even though we love the songs, the darkness in it all is entirely real. This man lived a very tormenting life, and had the gift of being able to let the rest of us know how fucked up everything really is, from a first person view. RIP Vic
@blueindian18 I never knew about him until I became paralyzed from the waist down. I got run over by a truck in a fight with someone who I loved very much so. I've always been keen to the darker side of life ever since I can remember, but there has never been someone before I feel as though I can relate to on so many different levels. It's sad that this has to happen, but it's a real part of overcoming a tragic accident. RIP Everything You Said is true.
in a different live version of this song vic mentioned that it was in a minor key. I fooled around for a bit and I think this is G-minor is what u want... D G D G Bb D ... have fun

There has to be a fan out there that know the answer to this question. What is the make of the small gitar he plays with the VIC writing o the head stock? im pretty sure its a parlor style but lost after that. Thanks

Thanks for posting this. I helped shoot a Vic concert at St. Ann's Church for Jem Cohen a long time ago - I wonder where those tapes are? That was also a great night.
Dear Vic. Just moved to Athens Ga. Missed you by a couple of months, I guess. I would have loved to meet you Vic. You will always live on to so many in this town and this world, Vic. RIP.
I have no idea what to say after watching, but most importantly hearing that. I am blown away. I have no idea what emotion I was feeling throughout the song, but nobody brings out more unknown emotions than that guy. Vic was a great talent and I will truly never forget the songs he wrote and the way he poured it all out there performing. Wow!
@Beepkris The other guys are members of A Silver Mt. Zion (some of them were formerly in Godspeed You! Black Emperor). All excellent musicians on that stage. Vic will be missed.
This is fantastic. SO powerful, the band, Vic's throat-shredding vocals - all of it. The guy was incredible. And funny. A sad loss but what a lot of good stuff he left behind. If anyone hasn't listened to his entire back catalogue I suggest you do so right now. What are you waiting for?
The one step ahead man. His dick joke never gets old no matter how many times I hear it. A funny and grossly talented man among men. I know you're gone but.. thanks for screaming the shit out of that song before you left.
In 1993, a girlfriend in my old hometown made 'West of Rome' part of my required listening. Soon after, 'Is The Actor Happy?' became part of my soundtrack to rooming-house squalor in the big city. In 2003, of my own volition, I bought a copy of 'Left to His Own Devices'; an album that reflected the fragmentation I felt was happening to me at the time. Now, 2010, I only hope that one day Vic will get the recognition he deserves. R.I.P. Vic, You are Remembered.
VIc has always been near and dear to my heart for many years. I've been working on getting a benefit concert together in the area with myself and some other local musicians. Had a conversation with him once outside the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. He was a humble, down to earth man. May He rest in peace.

At the beginning, i didnt understand the way he plays it...
the way he plays it
then I suddenly realized, and I exploded and keep crying the whole song...
This guy made such a brilliant song, and many others, and died from despair the year next this version.
this is pure sadness, and this made me feel better.
but HE doesnt cry.
