  • Celine Dion introduced me to Barbra Streisand 'cause she's her idol :)

  • I love how she builds up from slow and jazzy until it sounds like the original song! Wonderful :D

  • you will never hear her sound better than these early recordings ,

if your a singer and want to learn about breath and projection, control and natural vibrato listen and learn. If you want to know how to act watch and listen .... these are exquisite and search out all of the 60's Barbra

  • Babs -3 sutton foster does a great version of this song, too!

  • The more I see on YouTube artists' performances on American variety TV shows in the 1960's, the more I realize it was a Golden Age, now long past. The standard of singing, sound and set design and overall production was amazing.

  • @Rianewjob01 You are so right. Her acting is as marvelous as her voice. There is nothing as incredible as watching a great singer belt out her tunes while acting them out just as well.

  • jazz doesn't require a beautiful voice and having a beautiful voice doesn't automatically make one a jazz singer. this sucks.

  • Hey, Devin - you still have the blouse Streisand is wearing in this video? I think it'll fit me in a month/so... whaddya say? :D

  • true talent

  • WOW I didnt expect to see a black and white video when I youtubed her. I thought she was the same age as my parents(50) but damn she looks pretty young in the "Focker" movies!

  • Barbra, My Hero and Inspiration. WHat a beautiful woman inside and out.

    such great talent <33

  • simply put...The Greatest female voice ...next only to Ella !! the power...the feeling ...the perfect choice of material...Original A Triumph...A Miracle !! Thanx Babs !!

  • I pray they don't do this on Glee.

  • @thetubkins seriously, 'cause i like lea but i don't think she has this kind of high energy to even come close to this

  • @thetubkins See why do you people have to go on and do that? Why can't you just enjoy the video without bringing others down? Personally I would LOVE it if Glee did it but only If Lea sang it or Barbra herself sang it but really who cares? It's a matter of opinion and it's not like them doing it is gonna change anything from Barbra's, if anything it'll bring more people to know of Barbra's version who other wise would have never heard it!

  • The 4 people to dislike this seriously needs to get their ears checked.

  • Beautiful calm and booming voice!!!! So good!

  • like buttah

  • Mmm, sooo great!

What are the names of the songs that she quotes at the end?

  • @ajamesu @ajamesu The songs that she quotes at the end are:

    "And I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance with You" 2:50

"Dancing on The Ceiling " 2:58

"I talk to the trees" 3:02

"Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" 3:07

"What is This Thing Called Love" 3:52

  • @ajamesu 2:48 - Night And Day

3:37 - THat Old Black MAgic

  • She moves like an actress. A natural for the cinema.

  • Sometimes I forget that she's just old enough to have begun during the tail end of traditional American pop. This is great for those of us who are much more familiar with her post "The Way We Were" work.

  • best rendition of this song heard so far, i also like the version from the movie down with love

  • After hearing this and the effortlessness in which it's executed, all others are just...well, 'whatever'.

  • i can listen to this all day

  • W O N D E R F U L !!!

  • As it turns out, it was on the Garland show that Streisand, who kicks up a lot of dust with this intricate rendition, did perhaps the best work of her overvalued career. Maybe the arrows on that fascinating set suggest the different directions in which popular music was being pulled at the time.

  • @en9nui Oh puhleeze, Barbra sang at this level of quality pretty much from 1961 till she became a movie star in 1968. All of the recorded work (and there's a lot of it) and live work is on an amazingly high level.

  • @FoggyRoad81 definitely agree with you on that point but then again i have to admit im probably biased because im such a big fan of hers and miss garlands for that matter!!!

  • She's like buttah!!!!!!! now talk amongst yourselves <3

  • Both Barbra and Judy are outstanding! Two real queens of singing!

  • lol have you seen the whole judy garland show episode that this came from? Mental!!

  • This performance is nothing short of brilliant. And, to think that it came from a 21 year old demonstrating more musical maturity, intellect and talent that those twice her age is beyond remarkable. There was nothing she could do later in her career to best this version of this song which shows that she had an unimaginable musical intution from the very beginning.

  • Absolute pure magic. There is no other singer that moves me like Barbra's voice. Her passion stimulates.

  • That entrance is pure confidence, which isn't arrogance, it's a stunning display of comfortability onstage & screen, she had IT right from the beginning, could hold the audience in the palm of her hand!

  • احبها اموووت فيهاااا .. صوووتها مره روووعه وافلامها اروع

  • I love how the song does a part of Let's Call The Whole Thing Off, which has to be my favorite Ginger and Fred song ever:)

  • is she on drugs?

  • I love how she made this her own!

  • I totally agree! I watched Judy sing this song and then watched Barbra and I hate to admit it but Barbra just knocks it out of the water!!. Judy's version does lack a lot to be desired and I am huge Judy fan, This has always been one of my very favorites of Barbra. She is totally the best singer of all time as far as I am concerned!!

  • @penlint Well Judy hit a really bad note and I think that it threw her. Interestingly enough they used Judy's version in that film "Down with love". I do agree with Torme when he said that her performance included the thrill factor! Ty for this wonderful streisand post!

  • love love love her

  • Great singers!!!! i love them 4:07 The flatest ass ever

  • I LOVE IT! thank you!

  • Well, this it truly one of her great performances. It is fair to say that this is just about astounding, Look, at 21, she sang with more depth, more knowledge regarding how to interpret a song, a phenomenal ability to understand the text and an uncanny ability to phrase musically than anyone in her generation and anyone today.

  • She is simply amazing

  • ...absolutely amazing....

  • If you watch this with the sound off, the acting performance speaks for itself. A talent like no other ever.

  • Best set ever

  • blossom did a version? is it on the tube?

  • she's in rare form with an UPBEAT, SARCASTIC love song...

    i love it...

  • ho my she s FANTASTIC !

  • Barbra Streisand possess the most uniquely beautiful voice of all...c",) She has the voice that seems to be beyond human capabilities...c",) She's simply the best...c",)

  • I feel that the thing that sets her apart from other singers is her amazing tones. She can hit all the high pitches and the low ones. I feel the world has been very blessed by getting to hear her wonderful voice!!!

  • I never thought of Streisand as

being sexy when she was in

her 20's, but looking at this clip

some 46 years later, she was

sexy as hell back then !! She's

ALWAYS been a great singer .

  • haha of course if i express my honest opinon about her voice, yet still express my respect for her talent, people always get emotional and give a thumbs down. when did it become so wrong to be honest?

  • oh god! Amazing talent - I want that lady!!

  • mister, i want that lady in my bed. on the pronto.

  • She is a genius!! I LOVE HER!

  • @DDYLAN19 she's like butter! hahahah!

  • Favorite version :)

  • O live this song!

  • It's a STUNNING performance considering she was only 21 and it's easy to see why Babs became such a superstar.

But keep in mind what's also helping her is this particular jazzy arrangement of the song, which enhances her singing style.

  • @headwuss why do people always feel the need to qualify??? As if it makes it seem more intelligent not to go ALL OUT for something (ugh). Find another 21-year-old since then who can even hold a candle to her and then come back.

  • What is this thing called love? Two words: Barbra Streisand.

  • @outinsider couldn't have said it better.

  • Love this! =D

  • thank you

  • Just exquisite. Thanks.
