i know the eyes can reflect images somewhat like looking down at a pond or a pool of water, so any object in front of the eye can make your pupil look vertically across the eye, i tried infront of my mirror and held up a pen in front of my eye, and it looked like i had a reptilian eye. so maybe the camera can make peoples eyes look that way, but i checked out the original film, from cnn website, and his eyes do shift back and forth, you can clearly see it, and they change color a lot.
